After much delay I was convinced to write my review for my hair experience with Karen…read more I stumbled across Karen by accident, initially I wanted to make my hair appointment with another stylist down the street. I called to ask for availability and Karen booked me for herself, she asked me what I had in mind, I sent her inspiration pictures for red/burgundy hair color or highlights. The day for my appointment came... She was running late for my appointment and asked me to go in later, I did. Here is where my issue starts.... I had told her I liked her hair and would of liked something like that in which I truly liked, she went ahead And started with coloring my "gray" hair Which I had like almost nothing I just nearly started showing this year, I was ok with it, she asked if she could cut my hair on the tips so the new color could look better, sure no problem....( At no time did she mention price or estimate) After about 2 hours waiting for the base color to grab she washed and started doing the "balayage" Which were several bleached peices.. we waited about 2-3 more hours for the bleach to grab. (I'll mention I had previously colored my hair and let it grow out for 3 years..) After waiting another 2 hours she styled my hair and saw the final results...... It look NOTHING like her hair.... It looked nothing like I wanted.. She mentioned that it's going to take about 3 visits to get to my desired look at the end on my appointment???? She did not mention this in the at all...nor how much it was going to be..... She did not tell me that the base color was a charge or the trim... In My mind I thought she was hooking me up or treating me with covering my stranded gray hairs and trimming the ends to make the hair transformation more appealing.... Nope I walked out of there $5xx.00 less and hating my hair. I did give her a good tip.. this was because when we finished it was so late. she didn't take pictures nor did I have time to see my hair with details because I was pretty much rushed out of there aside from my daughter's and babysitter calling me to pick them up from the sitters..I litter just took a glance at the mirror and left. The next day I washed my hair and styled it and was literally crying from frustration because that was not what I wanted. I texted her right away and told her I did not like my hair and why did it cost so much. She gave me the run down andy family was annoyed that it was that much and couldn't even notice I had done anything to my hair....I didn't want conflicts so I let it be... My family literally yelled at me for paying that much and my hair looking like before I walked in the salon... The hair color" balayage" looked like a dead bronze mixed with my old hair color Which was old reddish brown color it just looks awful... I would have wanted her to ask me to go back and add a couple more highlights and/or put a different toner for free to make it right but she flat out did not care. Months passed and I had forgotten she had booked me for future appointment... Again I mentioned to her I did not like how she did my hair and if she could fix it.... She said it would be $250 starting price to get balayage again!!!!!!!. I don't know but, i just got several strands of bleached hair not have to pay more to have a couple more strands of hair bleached...... At this point I said I had no money and canceled. I was never mean to her nor disrespectful but she just did not care that I was an unsatisfied customer. Worst decision was to book with her. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Side note, that same night the only other stylist that was there had 2 separate customers. She managed to screw up on both of them and had to deeply apologize to both of them. They were not happy at all.

She even said "your layers would look better if it was curled". It was very apparent that her work was amateur, and that she hasn't worked as a stylist for very long. Mind you, she was working with a grown out bob so had a clean slate on creating these "face-framing layers". At the end of the service I didn't point out the errors because I didn't want anymore hair to be cut off as I was trying to grow it out, and frankly, I don't think she had the skill to fix it at that point making it awkward. She was very nice and easy to talk to, but I think the owner/manager needs to see how she cuts people's hair in real time to give constructive criticism. I've been to this salon several times for haircuts and have had decent cuts until now. I usually don't request a particular stylist at this salon because everyone until this point has done a good job. There was a stylist I really liked but found out she relocated to Redlands, which was unfortunate. I recommend requesting a senior stylist, and ask how many years they've worked.

On the day of my appointment, she contacted me early to change the time, but it did not work for me because I had already arranged my schedule for the day. When I arrived at the salon at the exact time of my appointment, the salon was closed and no one was there. Then I received a call from Maddie saying she would be 30 minutes late and gave several excuses. At that point, I decided not to wait and asked for my deposit back. I was very disappointed. This was my first experience with both her and the salon, and unfortunately, it was not a good one. I hope she learns to manage her time and priorities better to avoid disappointing clients and losing future business.

When she finished cutting my hair I told her I use a gel and mousse on my hair because it's thick but fine and I needed the extra products to get the style I was going for. She told me that she didn't have gel and if I came back I could bring my own. Once she blew dry my hair I could see that one side was shorter than the other and left the other side which was the side I wanted trimmed so that it would eventually match up to the other side that was butchered by the other stylist. She told me that the salon was more geared to a younger clientele and she was not use to cutting and styling my type of bob. I am not that old but I guess she felt that was a good answer to "satisfy" me with the LOOK. She also had someone sitting in the chair next to us waiting for a haircut. She talked with the other client most of the time I was in her chair. I am so mad at myself for giving her 20plus for a tip for a hair cut I could have gotten at Super Cuts. Angela was pretty booked for color, so I scheduled a haircut with her first to get in a bit sooner and see if she would be a good fit for me. Before my appt, I also sent photos of my Inspiration haircolors/styles via text and in turn, she had me send her current pics of my hair and a summary of my color history. What I loved and appreciated was Angela's honesty and frankness. She didn't sugar coat anything and based on photos alone questioned if my hair was even healthy enough to withstand another bleach transformation to achieve the look of my inspiration pics. On the day of my haircut appt- she assessed the damage and confirmed my hair wasn't healthy enough at that time to get the results I was looking for with color and it would probably break if I bleached it again this soon. Not what I wanted to hear- but it is what it is...and I had consulted with another stylist prior at a different salon who essentially said the same thing. Angela spent a long time with me listening to my hair goals and examining my hair and we came up with a game plan focused on improving the health of my hair in preparation for my Inspiration pics. Loved the haircut and the vibes w/ Angela and the salon so I excitedly scheduled an appt a month out for the color. What Angela did was amazing! The brassiness/orange/warm tones disappeared, my grays were gone, and with a B3 treatment felt soft, healthy and had amazing shine. I was so impressed I booked her for the same thing again!
