Sunnyside Mall in Bedford is more upscale than most and definitely worth the drive from Halifax if…read moreyou're looking for trendy, somewhat pricey merchandise. You'll find a fabulous Pete's Frootique, stocked quite differently from the one downtown and right next door is Cristall & Luckett Wine Merchants with a great wine selection from around the world. Prices range from $13 to ...well high and will go with any delicacy you've purchased at Pete's. As for fashion, there are clothes for kids at Bib & Tucker, as well as a number of shops for men and women that are unique and not your typical mall selection. One of my favorite shops is Uncommon Gear a very eco friendly place to buy toys, games and gear from strollers to every other nurturing thing kids need. Several home decor and foodie focused shops like Cucina Moderna, Backyard & Veranda (that has lots of stuff for indoors as well). There's even a branch of Stokes (always has sales and fun kitchen gear). The far end of the mall has travel agency, shoe repair...and more, plus access to Canadian Tire. And lastly, if you're into local handicrafts, there's a market just for you on Sundays from 11-5.

If you're looking for a rainy day shopping center that you can spend hours browsing through, then…read morethis mall is probably not the one you're looking for. That being said, it has some unique stores and a pleasant artsy vibe (especially on the end of the mall that houses Pete's Frootique). The mall is mainly centered around Pete's Frootique as a prime destination, and prime destination it is.. It's somewhat comparable to "Whole Foods" in the US albeit on a smaller scale, but it makes up for its small size with a huge variety of food items that you are unlikely to find anywhere else in the city. The mall also has a variety of the standard cell phone carrier stands, a (too?) small Indigospirit bookstore, Mark's work wearhouse, Hallmark etc. The food court is small but the quality and health consciousness of the non-chain food vendors here makes it a very attractive to stop by for a meal... especially if you enjoy fresh ingredients and want a break from the monotony and excessive food processing offered by the standard fast food chains.

If you are looking for Tartan for Nova Scotia or another place then go to The Plaid Place. Located…read morein pebbled stone court yard it looks like the Plaid Place expanded since the last time that I was there. Anything and everything to do with Nova Scotia you can find in this location. It is interesting as the staff are very knowledgeable and will be able to let you know what the colours mean in the tartan My GF actually owned this store years ago and I purchased a cashmere coat from her and it looks just like the day that I bought it. As well I she gave me a tartan throw that was a symbol of my last name. Hats and spoons to post cards thimbles just to name a few things that you will be able to purchase here.

They don't call it Nova Scotia for nothing...New Scotland .... after all Nova Scotian roots are…read moredefinitely in Scotland. In the summer you'd be hard pressed NOT to see men in kilts and among street musicians, there will always be a bag piper or two. So it's natural to find a shop that caters to all things plaid from kilts to scarves and colors of Nova Scotia are reflected in its official tartan . Blue for the ocean, white for the surf, green for the forests, gold for the Royal Charter granted in 1621, and red for the Lion Rampant as seen in the Nova Scotia crest.. Wonderful reminders of a trip to Nova Scotia and this shop is ideally located in the heart of tourist Halifax - right in Privateers Wharf. And in case plaid is not your thing, what about a beautiful Irish hand knit sweater or Scottish pottery or Burns crystal to take home? They used to sell Haggis in a can, but apparently there are labeling issues and so...that's on hold for now.

I recently placed a large order here, 126 hoodies and roughly 60 hats plus 36 touckes- I thought it…read morestarted well as my order of various sizes was a hard one to keep straight but the women did a good job there. Once submitted I was disappointed in the outcome of 2 events - the first being a call stating all the touckes and roughly 30 of the hats had already been embroidered and they realized the logo was too small for the size of the hat - I supplied the eps file for embroidery which was a basic size and should be adjusted by a professional to accommodate the material being placed on. Apparently it was my fault and the 30 hats plus all the touckes was on my own dime no negotiation on that one which I didn't bother arguing. Then I got home to organize my order and gather the hoodies for the list I had to give out too - my 2 God boys are youth XL - I ordered 6 and was going to send them each 2 - I went through the order 3 times, no youth XL - I sent an email to the company to advise and the response was again my fault and I must have not looked the order over should redo it - they claimed they did a piece count (no mention of size count) which totalled the correct amount ordered and I must have missed something. I responded with again, I went through the sizes 3 times and don't need to re look at it there are definitely no youth XL ( I am thinking they may have an extra 6 adult XL or something but haven't taken the time to look at the per count as I already gave a bunch out. What happened to customer service and a company taking some responsibility? I placed a $4800 order and believe me I was not trying to get 6 free sweaters I just wanted to get my God children the sweaters I promised them as I do it every couple years. Too bad
