As I was walking along the sidewalk in old town Sonoma, I pasted a lot of shops. Many of them were art galleries with art pieces that didn't interest me. But the framed color photo of a soulful content face painted in a gorgeous shade of blue caught my eye. You can say... I made eye contact. I moved in closer to the shop window to get a better look and the next thing I knew I was walking into the gallery. The Lisa Kristine gallery. Who the heck is Lisa Kristine?! I was thinking this to myself because her photos are pieces of art. The walled photos were beautiful. Mesmerizing photos of places and people in gorgeous foreign lands. Some of the people were from indengious cultures but she captured their joy and pride. Anyway Lisa Kristine I found out is an award winning Humanitarian photographer, activist, and speaker. Her photos and photo books are shown and sold in the gallery and online. The photo books are a more affordable option vs the art photos. Another favorite photo is a black and white of aged weathered hands grasping the flow of running water from a hydraulic manual pump. Gorgeous storytelling in a moment of time photo. Stumbled across this gem while walking the plaza. Lisa is an amazing photographer and has a great eye. I ended up purchasing the Slavery book because I wanted to support her work and the cause. They have specials around Christmas time so keep that in mind. The images she captures are very intricate and captivating so make it a point to stop by here if you're in town. read more

The photographs in this gallery are stunning: they are large sized beautiful images that are perfectly framed. I was going to walk back and get S so he could see them. I was impressed. There wasn't anything I wanted to take home. That's not saying that they weren't amazing. I wish I had taken all of them, but there wasn't anything that I had not seen before when I judge at camera clubs. Five stars for the gallery, five stars for the technique that the artist used and her ability to interact with her subjects. However, it is only three stars for the subject matter. read more

There are very few photographers who can capture the heart and soul of so many of our world's varied cultures and Lisa Kristine is at the top of this list! I have collected several of her gorgeous photos: Corridor of Winds, Eternity-Myanmar and Begging Bowl and each one conjures up wonderful memories of visiting these sites, learning about the culture and people of each one. I've been fortunate to have traveled to more than 125 countries and have lived and worked in Europe, Africa and Asia and have never before encountered anyone whose photography can transport me back to those places I loved so much. Now, I have and Lisa's work also inspires new travels! I also greatly admire all her humanitarian work to help stop slavery in all its forms and to remind us all that it is still there and each one of us must do whatever we can to end it. My dad and I visited the gallery recently and we were able to meet Lisa Kristine. She was so engaging, humble and friendly. I suppose visiting all of the areas she has been to and witnessing such atrocities in the world would make you a very grounded person. This was my first time coming to the gallery but my father said he comes to this gallery every time he is able to make to Sonoma. Her work as a photographer is amazing but the cause behind it is even greater. Well worth your time visiting if you get a chance. read more

Many of us have visited places that feature stunning works of art, but for whatever reason just aren't our style. That's how I feel about the Lisa Kristine Gallery. The photographs are expertly composed and with vivid colors and subjects that draw you right in, but to a limited point for me. I've passed by her windows several times and even have occasionally wandered in trying to figure out what I'm missing. Yet, I just can't emotionally connect. Sorry. The Lisa Kristine Gallery is a marvelous little wonder down the street from Mission St. Francis Solano. Though the plaza is a place of activity- this gallery is a place of refuge. It is meditative, with huge pictures of a young Buddhist monk with his tiger, or a Buddhist nun so androgynous she looks like an old man. There are colorful pictures depicting the yellow expanse of the Sahara, with blue clad nomads, or Tibetan dancers in ceremonial outfits. Each picture is an opportunity for contemplation. I had a surreal experience at this gallery, because it reminded me of another place, another city with adobe, a plaza, and mission churches. I told the lady at the desk that this gallery reminded me of Santa Fe, as if I had been at this gallery in Santa Fe. It's true that there is a Lisa Kristine Gallery in Santa Fe, but it opened after I left, and I haven't been to Santa Fe in nearly a decade. Truth is stranger than fiction. read more

WOW!! The artist captures amazingly stunning photographs/images! Truly moves you and very though provoking with the most striking colors and techniques.... Her works are simply amazing, with images of The Great Wall of China, of dwelling images of Morocco, South Africa, Croatia, India, Turpan, Prague, etc. Each picture is so breathtaking and totally capturing the right essence and moments. Initially spending nearly five years in Asia, she immersed herself in world philosophies and religions. Upon her return in 1988, she showed her first body of photographic work. Gosh, she must have a thousand special color filters on her. Her images are poetic and her ability to capture her subjects with such emotion is uncanny. Her portraits capture an intimacy within her subjects, which surprises me and makes me feel a sense of nostalgia for the portraits location. It's really difficult not to look at one of her images and not notice that the colors play as important a role in the pics as her subjects. They're just so bright that they enhance the shot. She has many famous photos from India, but her shop also features images from Zanzibar and Tibet. Dosa on Fillmore (upstairs section) and Roti Indian Bistro (West Portal and Burlingame) showcase her prints from India. I haven't seen her other prints elsewhere. Next time you're dining at either one of these restaurants - look around the place and you'll know the wall prints are one of Lisa Kristine's, because you won't be able to stop looking at it. I am almost embarrassed to say that I have not heard of this gallery before. I was immediately captivated by the image in the window. And as I walked in I grew more and more captivated. It was as if she (Lisa Kristine) were speaking to me as each photo told a story of the moment. It was impossible to graze through the gallery from piece to piece. Each image literally demanded my attention, and I found myself standing still in front of each photo for uncounted points of time. I stopped in here recently and was surprised by the beauty and quality of the photography in this gallery. The portraits were my favorite of everything I saw. The subjects seemed to be staring directly at me, inviting me to join them in their world. The books were beautiful, though the photographs documenting modern day slavery were sometimes too much for me to handle. Nothing gory or disgusting was shown, but seeing how exhausted the people looked on all levels of functioning was difficult. I think art is meant to invite the viewer outside of their own ego, to bring us beyond ourselves into a shared experience with an other. The photography in this gallery certainly did that for me, so 5 stars it is. read more

I think it is my emotional nature that made me a bit teary eyed looking through her photos. The man holding on to the elephant's tusks made me feel the relationship between animal and master just as anyone of us love our cats and dogs as if they are our very own children. Or the content faces of the natives in the Appalachian mountains that seemed to express innocence, a sense of community, connections and images that we normally won't see everyday. This Gallery is located in Sonoma, and is an area I know very well. My sister lives in Sonoma so I visit quite frequently. I love Lisa's photos, especially the ones taken in Asian countries. I am a traveler and have seen many of the Asian countries. I own one photo of Lisa's she took of the Ganges River in India and I love that photo. The one photo that intrigued me this time was the photo of the Buddhist monk taken in, I think it is Myramar or somewhere in Burma. I love that photo and I'm seriously contemplating purchasing that piece. All of her photo's are beautiful and so realistic. It feels like you are in the photograph actually looking at the subject. I had the honor of meeting Lisa Kristine at the Ann Arbor 2016 art festival. I didn't know who she was at the time and was unfamiliar with her work. All I knew was that out of the 400 artists that were there that day; she was my favorite. Lisa's work to me is a raw and honest reflection of whatever she's photographing at the moment. I love her work and will continue to support her in future projects. What makes her work "art" to me is learning the background information about the picture. If you read what she does to get these shots, it's amazing. Lisa to me is a very strong woman with the clarity to see things for what they are. We only spoke briefly, but I could tell she just looks at things differently the way she described her picture and what she liked about it. The woman that works there is one of the most unpleasant people I have ever dealt with. I went by the gallery yesterday to look at some of the photographs because I am writing a paper for the Academy of Art in San Francisco on one of the photographs, and she treated me like I was going to steal something. She spoke to me like I was beneath her, or like I was wasting her time. I was dressed in casual clothes and she treated me like I was a delinquent, which is quite sad because I originally intended on purchasing a few of the prints but the way was treated left a very bad taste in my mouth. I called just a few minutes ago to inquire about specific information about a print and once I told her that I was there yesterday she said she had a lot to do and that I could reference the website and hung up on me. Her customer service skills lacked professionalism and I will not be purchasing from the gallery unless I can go through someone other than her. read more
