The house is within walking distance to Carlingford. l noticed that many of the properties had security systems installed, so crime many be perceived as a problem though l saw no evidence of it whilst staying in the area.

Sure, you need good vision to see the sea, but it's there! We stayed 3 nights and added breakfast. Our check in was late, (thanks to a navigation re-route after a long day out), tho flawless. We were presenting a drink amenity and advised the bar was still open... nice touch. Our aromatherapy spray wasn't in the room. Not a huge deal, but I didn't bring any with me, since the room included it and we really liked the provided one on our last stay. The room was clean, well-appointed and spacious. Breakfast was plentiful. The croissants alone were worth the additional cost. I could have eaten them all day, every day. There is cereal, fruit, eggs, black & white pudding, ham (bacon), deli meats and cheeses, assorted breads & pastries, a gluten-free station and... did I mention the croissants? Check-out was painless. We owed a small additional amount for taxes. The gent working the desk called up to make sure we got breakfast pre-departure, when he found out we hadn't yet eaten and were flying out. On his insistence, we went up for breakfast before going to the airport. I owe him one. We would not have had time to eat. The lines were crazy. Those small touches make a huge difference and will keep us coming back. Another great stay.

The front desk manager went out of his way to make me a cup of coffee one morning as it was early and breakfast wasn't starting for a few hours. The restaurant on the 13th floor is a great breakfast venue and again the staff are very helpful- making a mocha or Americano or providing extra pancakes for my 8 year old. Rooms are big and clean and the showers are great. Anything I needed was attended to without delay. Well done and I will plan on staying here again on my next trip to Dundalk

The tea that they set up was beautiful! Our room was comfortable and lovely. Plenty of space, quiet and very clean. Well, it was quiet except for the amazing Friday and Saturday live music that was playing downstairs.

We had walked by this place…read morequite a few times as it's right beside the sea, along a favourite walking spot with a perfect view of the Mourne mountains, Warrenpoint and the peninsula and Carlingford bay, but never ventured in until now. We had been invited to a wedding and this was the reception venue. The venue couldn't physically cater for a big wedding. This one was around 100 guests and it was a tad cramped. The stage is small too. The meal was excellent, fish starter, perfectly cooked tasty meats for main and a scrummy trio of desserts. For the most part Irish restaurants deliver excellent fish and meat. The country is a giant natural larder and the cold Atlantic provides everything from crab and oysters to salmon and turbot, with a mostly soft damp climate with few temperature extremes. It has to be one of the best natural food rearing, growing climates on earth. Where restaurants did disappoint was usually the vegetables which were either cooked until they disintegrated or they were not properly cooked at all. The former was more typical. This place got it right. All the vegetables were perfectly cooked. It's also a fact or at least it's how I find it now that the places that murder great veg by overcooking are diminishing. In terms of rating it's probably a one star, there's no swimming pool, no jacuzzi or steam baths. Just a basic ten room old hotel with oodles of parking. It's not bad enough to need redecorated but it's not at all modern if you get my drift. I wouldn't change it as it's period, characterful and lots of real wood and old comfy chairs. The best thing about it is the friendliness of the staff. Like so many places now, the welcome and the service is genuinely warm and has that beguiling Irish charm. Now TH's we've been once, and liked it, we'll be back to try the al a carte. One real bummer though, the coffee is crap and like the over cooked vegetables of old Ireland it's just not acceptable to serve up this awful powdered crap any more. The people in Crossmaglen are fantastic (I'm a little biased, they are family), but the Cross Square Hotel is the perfect embodiment of the wonder that is South Armagh. We drive back following the Mourne Coastal Route and wanted something nicer than just standing at a chipper. We saw the front of the hotel and decided to circle back and give it a shot. The hotel is literally just opposite the water and not far at all from Warrenpoint town centre. There was a wedding taking place and most of the hotel was just loud and busy but still, we headed up to the restaurant and SO glad we did! Despite a bit of confusion on arrival of where to go to be seated or if we could be seated, a few different waitresses eventually circled through and took our drinks and food orders, brought out everything while we sipped through ciders and kiddie-friendly bevvies, and enjoyed both the company, the decor, and the vibe. The food when it arrived was awesome. We sampled everything we ordered and honestly, not a single complaint - we shared through a chunky tasty bird-and-beef burger, pizza, spicy chicken curry, garlic bread, steamed fish and veggies and barbecue ribs. All of it was terrific - none of that greasy tasting feeling after - food was amazing and I actually was very impressed. It really did cap off our day trip quite nicely and I'm looking forward to maybe check-in sometime for a weekend and give it a whirl as well.

Most of my stays have been at the Whistledown and I've never had a negative thought about the place. The beds are comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurants (there are two and a pub) are great. In fact the last several times I was there I ate dinner there each night (my stays are usually a week at a time). The hotel itself looks great. They still had some of the holiday decorations up, so it had a little bit of extra cheer this time around. I do know that the place is big for weddings now, so make sure you get your reservations as far out as you can manage. Oh...and you can't beat the view when you walk out of the front door. Carlingford Lough is right outside and you can look across to the Republic and the beautiful mountains there.
