Love all the different flavors they offer. There's so much variety here and I know I'll be coming back for more. This just became a habit!

Nothing like having a neighborhood empanada stand to increase the old waistline. The perfect place for cheap eats, Litos offers a menu exclusively of empanadas. The spinach and cheese one is the best, but I've tried most of the menu and never been disappointed. The crust is about as perfect a crust I've ever sampled. The meat filled options can be a bit bland so I recommend some hot sauce. Highly recommended for cheap eats. read more

Very delicious, wow, being a native San Diegan and Angeleno; this place is one of the best restaurants around... PERIOD.. Today, I tried the beef, chicken; and vegetarian versions of the empanadas offered here, they were exceptionally delicious. What a little gem of a very small little spot. Love the beef empanada with the raisins, and the cheese and chorizo. The size and ratio of filling to crust was perfect and not at all greasy. Affordable and delicious, and literally right downstairs from where I live. It's almost too dangerous because it's so easy to walk down there and order a couple empanadas to bring home and eat while watching tv... The store is clean and inviting and they have a clear menu on the wall with 12 items on it. The empanadas are crispy and fluffy and flavorful and just all-around wonderful. My favorite is the last one #12 which is a pork flavor with cheese in it. The #2 (?) Beef with rice was also really good. The one sweet item with bananas and nutella was also decent if you're craving something sweet to finish your meal but don't feel like walking somewhere else to pick up dessert. Don't forget to pick up some of that creamy pink sauce (actually not sure what it is) because it's really good! The only thing keeping me from eating these all the time is probably because they're not very healthy... Oh well, indulge first, regret later... Haha! read more

Excellent quick bite stop. Empanadas are $2-3 (cheap like the budgy), and tasty. The place only loses a star because today was friggin' hot, and they cook empanadas, but have no way to cool off the tiny tiny restaurant. Also VERY limited menu, but as tasty as it is limited. Enjoy to go! read more

Deliciously authentic empanadas that are quick, cheap and served with a smile!

Nutella is always a good thing and paired with banana, it's a great thing. I heard from one of my best friends that this place had a nutella banana empanada and I was sold on trying it out. Served warm, the nutella had a little bit of a thinner consistency. It tasted ga-reat, but would've preferred it to be a little less runny. The bananas were good, nice amount stored in the empanada pocket. The crust was tasty, buttery and light and had the right thickness. One suggestion would be to sugar and cinnamon coat the crust of the dessert empanada. It would make for a pretty emapanda as well as dress it up a notch. Also would help decipher between a savory empanada vs a sweet one. read more

The best dessert empanadas I have ever tasted! My sister put me on to this place and told me to try the choco banana empanada. It was piping hot and oozing with Nutella and bananas. A bit of a messy treat, but totally worth it. Can't wait to go back and try the savory empanadas. read more

I like their empanadas here. I have been there twice now and I was kicking myself this last time b/c I couldn't remember which flavors I preferred. Now I remember... get anything with cheese inside. Those are so much better. i got the new special, chorizo and cheese, and that was delicious! I now also remember that the spinach and cheese and the hawaiian ones are tasty, too. But this time I got the beef and rice, and that one was just okay. I just wish there were more seats in there b/c it is a nice place to have a little snack while walking around in the neighborhood. read more

Even though I've only been here once, I have to say: LO AMO! (I love it!) It's something quick, cheap, tasty and different. Although their not the best I've had (having lived in various parts of Latin America for over 1.5 years), it's unique and one of it's kind in Lincoln Park. Each day they have different types of empanadas so you never get bored. I went crazy for their Hawaiian and Argentine beef empanadas. I have to go back though to try their dessert ones with chocolate... This place has only FOUR seats, so don't go with a group unless you plan to go elsewhere to eat. read more

So I have been walking by this place for months, read the amazing reviews on yelp, and have been eagerly anticipating my visit. today I finally went and it was very blah. They get one extra star for the very friendly service, and I did like the homemade hot sauce, but the empanadas left much to be desired. The fillings were bland, and the shell was reminiscent of frozen then deep fried bar food. I want to like you Lito's I really do, but if you wanna be wowed by an empanada try Ole Ole in Andersonville, I would probably return if I was nearby and looking for a quick cheap snack, but I am definitely not running back read more

We tried almost every single empanada together, splitting each one, and it was hard to decide on a favorite. The choco-banana was definitely worth adding to the list for dessert. I agree, they were not greasy, and we will definitely be back. I love the simplicity of the Lito's...just a list of few really good empanada options. Get the homemade hot sauce. It's incredibly delicious and so wonderfully hot. It improves the chicken empanada immeasurably, too. You don't really need the sauce for the beef empanada, which is so good, even with the raisins. I hate raisins, but these didn't mar the thing very much. The BBQ chicken empanada was great too. All in all, delicious and perfect for a snack--or a carryout dinner. read more

Okay, so I have passed by Lito's about a billion times between my bus rides to and from work, weekend strolls and running errands, and this past weekend, I finally made my way from the sidewalk on Clark street into the world of empanadas. I am so glad I finally did. Lito's is a very small and unassuming place. When you walk inside there are four or five stools surrounding a small ledge, the ordering counter and the small menu written on a chalkboard on the wall. Although the menu does not take long to look up and down, you still find yourself wrestling with the idea of which one sounds the best. You have your standard chicken and beef-based ones as well as vegetarian, spinach(and a few others) and then of course, delicious dessert empanadas. Each one is right around $2 or so dollars, so if you can't decide, get two, or if you really love 'em, get a third dessert one as well. The empanada bread itself is absolutely delicious, it's as if the ingredients inside are just a bonus. Check out this place if you want a satisfying snack or meal that is very easy on your wallet. read more

I must preface this review with a disclaimer: I had never had an empanada before ordering from Lito's online. My ignorance was quickly displaced by delight and gustatory satisfaction nonetheless. For those of you who are not familiar with this tasty treat, I will tell you: jump in with both feet. This is not something to be missed. The presumably deep-fried crust (breading? casing? -here is where my ignorance rears its ugly head) is outstanding. It is at once rib-sticking and light and flaky. For me, the fillings are but an accompaniment to this tantalizing treat. If the Greeks had known a God that exemplified the perfect balance between greasy and doughy, Lito would most certainly have been his name. I defy you to go wrong in the choosing of fillings department; simply making this your meal of choice ensures you will be satisfied. The only regret you may have is that you are too full to sample the other menu items immediately. read more

Delightful Saturday afternoon snack! The beef empanada was filled with tomatoes and onions and potatoes and raisins and made my belly quite happy. It was packed in a bag and arrived on the counter for me to take home before I had even pulled my two dollars out of my wallet. Great bread-to-filling ratio, and not very greasy! read more

Uh. Mazing. Empanadas! I've seen this place numerous times and just hadn't made it in, but fixed that last night. I got the Beef #1 and BBQ chicken. With the dipping sauces/salsas they were both quite delicious! Such inexpensive prices too! I'll definitely be coming back here on a regular basis in the future. read more

Wow. Those are some tasty empanadas. Stopped in on a lark because I love empanadas and am always game to try a place that features them. Was not disappointed. Service was quick and friendly but the main star was the empanadas. I tried the spinach and mozzarella which gooey, tasty, crispy yummy. The beef was also great. Make sure to order the hot sauce that goes with. It is a great side with tons of flavor. Overall cannot wait to try more! read more

Absolutely love Litos! This place was the first time I ever tried authentic empaniadas. They are truly delicious, fluffy and filled with a different variety of toppings you can choose from. My favorite are the veggie, bbq chicken and spinach mozzarella, (and banana chocolate for desert). I call ahead of time and pick them up on my way home from work. I would recommend this cute little place to everyone! Also, great if you have ppl over, you can serve them as appetizers. read more

I've walked past this place most days for about a year and I'm so glad I finally went in and got an empanada. I had a chori-cheese (chorizo and cheese) empanada and it was hands down the best empanada I've ever had. At basically $3 for the best empanada I've ever had, this place is superb. Lincoln Park is slim on the cheap eats options. Yet I'm glad that a friend and I decided to visit Lito's recently during the Air & Water Show weekend. It's situated near Wrightwood and Clark. Each empanada is $2.99. In the interest of full disclosure, empanadas have not been a favorite item. Typically, I feel that what I'm eating likely isn't near authentic, that the baker (errrr... often reheater) doesn't really care about the quality of what I'm eating and that I could be just as satisfied with making a flavorful turnover at home. I was able to pay with credit. We saddled up to their small counter seating area. Then, I was pleasantly surprised when 2 fat, hot empanadas quickly made my day. Boom... enjoy 4 stars Lito's! - VEGETARIAN (green pepper, cilantro, onion, potato, tomato and chipotle pepper): Delicious. - SPINACH (spinach, mozzarella and onion): Mine was not dry. It wasn't the most flavorful (i.e. it might not have been fresh spinach) but it had plenty of hot melted mozzarella, which was awesome. They did not skimp on the amount of spinach either. The green homemade hot sauce did pack a punch. I liked whatever reddish sauce was provided as well. I really wanted to try the empanada with fresh apples, but they had a banana/nutella(?) option instead. Oh well, that just means that Lito's has been added to my return list. Woe is me. read more

People have asked me why I drive from Schaumburg all the way to Clark and Wrightwood to take my son to the doctor. Can't I find a local doctor? Yes, but a local doctor would not be situated right across the street from Lito's Empanadas, and so how else would I justify a 60 mile round trip to satisfy my empanada cravings? I LOVE Lito's. I have honestly caught myself daydreaming about their empanadas. They are that good! The prices are reasonable and the service is friendly and accommodating. Now if they only had a couple of tables. . . I feel a little bit like a bum when I'm standing on the sidewalk, leaning up against a building, eating my sack of empanadas, but what the heck? I usually go mid afternoon and this place has a few people trickle in at a time. The empanadas are fantastic! They're very fresh and made while you wait. So I came here last friday while waiting for a friend to go eat at Aloha Eats. We had a quick snack- the beef empanada. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything special about this place. Besides from the simplicity of the decor, menu and the way things are served (no utensils *at least I wasn't given any* and a simple empanada served on paper in a basket), that I found interesting, the food itself was nothign to brag about. I wish the skin was flakier and more choices in fillings. It did seem freshly fried though, which I loved. It was piping hot. I definitely think you could find a lot better latin food elsewhere. read more

I happened to be in the area, I was hungry. The place was so clean looking from the outside that it looked new. Before I knew it, I was opening the door. I had the beef and rice and bbq chicken empanadas, they were pretty fantastic. I enjoyed how fresh they were and they weren't greasy at all. I still think Tarascas empanada is the best but this is ok. The mushroom is very good. Not a bad place if you are in a fix.
