Took a stroll through Mellon Square Farmer's Market (every Friday from 11:00am-1:30pm) and was quickly drawn to the line that was forming outside this booth and the heavenly aromas! There were easily 12-15 different types of main dishes that were being served hot, several desserts and a couple different salads. My wife and I didn't have much cash and had left our cards at home so we opted for the $3 buffalo chicken pita (tasty but not worth 3 bucks in my mind) and the $4 stuffed cabbage which was a monster of a roll and was absolutely fantastic! Fire time stopping by their spot at the Market Square Farmers Market! The vegetarian moussaka and the spanikopita (probably spelled wrong) were delicious. Full of flavor and a good portion for the price! Haven't eaten the baklava yet but it looks like it'll taste amazing. Will be back to visit them all summer long! read more

Little Athens is a mainstay at the downtown Market Square Farmers Market during the summertime. It always has the longest line of any hot food vendor, and for good reason. Their selection is unmatched, portions are enormous, and it's DELICIOUS. I usually get the moussaka (veg or regular), and once in awhile I treat myself to a dessert. I always tell myself that I'm going to order something different because so many of those trays are calling my name, but I usually stick with the moussaka because it's so delicious. Don't let that crazy line scare you off; they move at a pretty decent clip during the lunch rush. A few words of advice, however: -Scan around the 3 sides where they have the food on display before you jump in line. There is a lot to take in, and it will be really tough to do after you're already in line. -When it's your turn to order, don't dither. They'll be pretty patient with you if you don't know exactly what you want and/or need to ask a question, but the more resolute you are by the time you're up, the better off everyone will be. You might have another opportunity to add something when you come around the bend and approach the register. -They do take cards, but I think there's a minimum. If you're paying with cash, have it ready! read more

I haven't been to Ambridge, this company comes to the Farmers Market in Squirrel Hill. Their Grape leaves stuffed with meat are the best I've ever eaten, and I have tried many. The Patstitio is tasty and the portion was very generous. I loved the Moussaka, the custard was so creamy with the meat seasoned enough to balance it. If Little Athens was in the city I would be a regular! I look forward to Sundays when the Market opens. read more

They say the food is really good when they cater I stopped in the store there's nothing in there but a couple racks of Greek deserts. They do have a good deal on gyros every Monday from 3pm to 7pm for $3.00.they also have a big menu of Greek specialties. I tried the lame gyro it was excellent. read more

This place is amazing! Hands down the best Greek food I have ever had. We came across their tent at a farmer's market in Sewickley and brought a variety of items home for lunch to try. I usually catch Little Athens on Fridays in Mellon Square for lunch. Their Greek Lemon Soup is phenomenal. Their stuffed grape leaves are huge and tender. As a fellow Greek I can say that I have tried a lot of different Greek food from actual Greek restaurants in Greece to moms home cooking and little Athens rivals them all. If you work downtown I highly recommend checking them out Fridays in the summer in Mellon Square. You will be in for a treat compared to the regular selection downtown. read more

The hummus! Oh, the hummus!!! It's no secret that you can find good pierogies in Ambridge - you're never more than a block or two from a Ukrainian church that'll serve them up year-round. But what about awesome Greek food? Can you get THAT in Ambridge? Yes. Yes, oh yes, oh YES you can! Little Athen's is located on the corner of 5th St and Merchant, in a little storefront that looks like a pizza shop. But for a little shop, they boast a large menu of Greek delights (and hot dogs and french fries and the like if you've got an 'iffy about Greek food' person in your party). No matter what else you get, snag a tub of the hummus. It is garlicky, lightly lemony, so smooth in texture, and it's wonderful with the soft, warm pita bread they serve alongside. The tabbouleh is quite good as well, and the spanikopita... DANG GIRL. It's good stuff. Cheese for days! Prices are reasonable - most menu items are between 4 and 6 dollars. And the portions are large; you can easily split a single order of the spanikopita with a friend. So if you find yourself in Ambridge or passing through, and you're craving the best hummus of your life, stop here and pick up a to-go order. But good luck limiting yourself to just the hummus - once you take a peek at the menu, you'll be having trouble narrowing your choices down! read more

I've never actually been to the physical establishment, but I go to the North Side Farmers Market every Friday. Although I don't know much about Greek food, everything I try is AMAZING! But my favorite is the haluski and they aren't skimpy with the food. I watched this guy try to put in more of it in the container even though it was already overflowing! The staff is amazing as well. Granted I get my fix every Friday, I don't think it's enough. I'm going to have to stop in Ambridge now once a week as well. I'm hooked Yinz are amazing! read more

I got to experience Little Athens while they were in Mellon Square on Friday during lunch. They had a ton of options to choose from: moussaka, stuffed grapes leaves, stuffed pork chops, stuffed peppers, Lady locks, lemon cake, baklava ect. All food entrees were $8 or under. Desserts were even cheaper. I went with the moussaka which has potatoes, beef, egg plants then a white sauce on top. They also had a vegetarian version of it without the beef. It was $7 and the portion was huge. The staff was extremely friendly and the moussaka was fabulous. I was tempted to get a lady lock but decided against it. Little Athens Catering will be in Pittsburgh all summer! Thursdays in Market Square for the farmers market and Fridays at Mellon Square. I love their gyros, gyro salads, and chicken salads. I have been eating here since they were in Sewickley, PA they no longer have a sit down area so you have to order your food to go, but the food is still the same it's "delicious". If you love Greek food they have it and if you have a picky kid(s) like me they have chicken fingers and various food items for them as well. A lot of their dressings are from scratch including their Greek and Ranch Dressing. They give you large portions one gyro salad is enough for two people. Every Christmas Eve our Family celebrate the Italian "feast of the seven fishes". The last several years we have been very unhappy with the catering company we had been using. Little Athens was suggested by a friend and we were so pleased!!! We ordered shrimp, cod, scallops, smelts and some others. The fried fish and shrimp were perfectly cooked, the breading delicious! The grilled scallops were amazing!! The staff were friendly, professional and our large order was ready when we came to pick it up. The Gyros are great. For $7 you really get a full meal. Trying the Stuffed Cabbage tonight so will update. Also the stuffed grape leaves are great.
