I reserved the Community Building at East Side Park for our family reunion for several reasons…read more The location is nice - in lovely East Side Park; the space is air conditioned, which was great as the average Labor Day Weekend temperatures for the area are over 80 degrees and it was 86 this weekend; there are ample bathroom facilities just for use by our group; it is handicap friendly; it has a amazing full chef kitchen stocked with all the hardware we needed. We probably had about 60 to 70 people in the facility and though that was not many for the venue size, half of the building was open and the kids took it over with games and balloons that they were enjoying just kicking and bopping around. The rental fee was higher than I wanted to pay for our fairly small group size, but i had no trouble getting my family to each pitch in enough to recover the costs and they all seemed to appreciate the amenities. There were lovely shades trees outside the building and nice small gardens and landscaping that we enjoyed too while watching folks play corn hole (we brought our own). The park has 2 - maybe 3 pretty lakes with lovely bridges and a playground. There is a concession stand and small train ride but they were not open on our holiday weekend. It was not a big loss though. We were able to entertain ourselves. One drawback for some of the family members was that alcohol is not allowed. But I will definitely consider it for future reunions.

French Lick Springs Hotel somehow manages to feel both grand and incredibly relaxing. Everywhere you turn there's another detail worth appreciating--from the breathtaking domed atrium and historic architecture to the beautifully maintained grounds that practically beg you to take a leisurely stroll. The wraparound porch quickly became one of our favorite places. We spent a ridiculous amount of time rocking in the chairs, enjoying the gorgeous weather and taking in the peaceful views. It felt like stepping back to a time when people weren't in such a hurry. One thing I didn't expect was how convenient it was to explore the area. The complimentary shuttle was fantastic. We rode over to the casino resort, spent hours walking the grounds and exploring the restaurants, and on the way back the driver even dropped a few guests off at CVS and simply told them to call when they were ready for pickup. It's little touches like that that make you feel genuinely taken care of. Our room service breakfast was another highlight. Everything arrived hot and beautifully presented, from the biscuits and gravy to the fresh fruit oatmeal and perfectly cooked breakfast. Starting the morning with breakfast by the window overlooking those incredible grounds was hard to beat. The hotel itself has so many little spaces to discover. We wandered through the historic bathhouse, found a billiards room tucked away, admired the architecture, and never once felt rushed to get back to our room. Every hallway seemed to tell another piece of the hotel's history. And yes... The robes absolutely deserve their own paragraph. They're still some of the most comfortable hotel robes I've ever worn, and I'm standing by my original statement--you won't want to take them off. French Lick is one of those rare places where the destination and the hotel are equally memorable. We left already talking about coming back during another season just to experience it all again. As the planner of the group, there were a lot of things I was disappointed in but some great…read morethings. There was a group of 18 of us for a friends bachelor party. First the great things. Sultans run is one of the coolest courses I've ever seen and everyone at that course was super friendly and made for a great experience. Even when we were running couple minutes behind, the starter gave us great vibes. It's definitely worth the extra 30 minutes to go there rather than Donald Ross. Second, Phil at the links course was outstanding and was someone who wanted to make sure our experience was great. Curious to see what the course will look like once the renovations end. The disappointments start with the lackluster effort. Besides Phil, nobody seemed to want to make our experience stand out. Just the smallest thing would've been appreciated and I even asked if anything extra could do for the bachelor and I was met with nothing. The person who I talked to (will refrain from naming him) did great at helping me plan everything but failed to mention that when you get a group package that it's not really at a discount rate. I'm not kidding you there is literally no discount so it's basically false advertising saying you get a group rate. I was basically being told I needed to do a group package (now I know it was just to make things easier for him and didn't benefit us at all) One late add on even found his room cheaper online than for what we got. If I hadn't done my research, multiple people would have paid double their price because they were unable to play the most expensive course yet would've been charged as if they had played. This brings me to the second part where Pete dye course is very cool but the price you pay plus caddy fee and tip is outrageous. There is no reason anyone should be paying over $500 for a round for that course in middle of nowhere. Instead they are giving u a crappy whiskey and some glasses in a nice box to try and put a bow on being way overpriced. It's a great course but it is ridiculously over priced. Lastly the food within the resort is very ok and also overpriced. If you go across the street you get way better food at the steakhouse and the sports bar and a better environment. Nothing special about the Casino either. It's pretty small and has a small bar too

West Baden has now become a regular family destination. My family -- plus my mom, stepdad, siblings…read moreand their families -- just finished our second trip here. And it's safe to say that West Baden is now a family tradition. My parents spent a few days there to celebrate their anniversary, and then the kids all came to stay the last night, during Easter weekend. And we made the most of it. We started with bowling and pizza at the new Ballard's at the Atrium (see my review on that). My older niece then watched all the kids in one of the hotel rooms, while the adults got a drink in the expansive atrium and enjoyed looking up at the picturesque dome ceiling. The next morning, which was Easter, we found a quiet sitting area on our floor to have an Easter egg hunt with all the kids. These are memories we will cherish. We popped over to French Lick for brunch, though the Easter brunch set up in the atrium definitely looked delicious too. The staff is always excellent. We were able to call and get all of our rooms next to each other, which helped. Thanks for another fabulous mini-vacation, West Baden!

Just wish the services for caring for kids started at younger ages (maybe potty trained and older?) It will be years before my husband and I can stay at this hotel and have a true 'date day or night' and our kids are five and three. Honestly they'd get more money out of us if they offered babysitting for younger kiddos!! Food here is very standard and nothing to write home about. That applies to every restaurant off property we tried in the area. Activities we tried and enjoyed 1. Kids pony ride 2. Carriage ride. 3. Mommy and kiddo pedicure (expensive for what you get but also standard pricing for hotels). 4. The free!! Trolley train ride to the sister property. Activities are easy to book over the phone ahead of the stay and easy to do at the front desk or calling from your room. Very excited about the new bowling alley building they are almost finished with next to the hotel. The stables area is very picturesque with a large covered 'patio'. Patio seems too small a word. More like covered event space. Wedding perfect. Room was clean. Beds are not very comfortable. Killed my back and my husband's. We had a two bedroom suite which was the perfect size for the four of us. It had two balconies overlooking the atrium which I will never, ever book again. Too loud! All night long too loud! Even from the sixth floor, even with earplugs. Only exterior view next time for a stay. I would return next year for all of the holiday events. My kids loved this trip because of all the new experiences they had. Lots of things to do in the area that get you outdoors. Lovely part of Indiana in the Autumn (when we visited).

We were renting a Duplex Cabin for a family reunion weekend. The price is right and it's a pretty…read morenice cabin, however I say that with a couple caveats. The beds are horribly uncomfortable. You will feel every single spring in them. My body was really sore the next day and I am not old! I would recommend that you bring some extra blankets to try to make the bed softer because it's really hard to get to sleep and honestly almost painful. The bed was also very noisy, so if you are tossing and turning because of the extreme firmness, that will also keep you away. It's also really, really dark at night. There needs to be some exterior motion detector lights so people can see to get in the cabin. We just used our phone flash lights but you can't really even tell which cabin is yours in the dark (at first arrival) so I would advise them to at least install a motion light near the door so you can see the lock. We also had very luke warm water in the shower. I can get by with that, but others might not. We also had some wasps and a stink bug in the cabin, but that's to be expected in the woods and they do provide a fly swatter. If I was going to stay here again, I would want a different cabin due to the bed. Otherwise, it was fine.

I thought that I would catch more fish but I was wrong. For the record. I didn't know my fishing license didn't carry over from state to state lol. THE MORE TOU KNOW! Please make sure that you buy fishing license when you cross over state lines. Lol as I didn't know my Kentucky license for fishing was no good. The good thing was that the game wardens were nice enough to issue us a warning. All sowed is to buy one online while they waited. Which made it awesome. I thank them kindly for their patience and respect. We spent the whole day on the lake and it was so relaxing and fun. I know that being on a boat all day is great but no one warns you about your body adjusting to being in the boat all day. You feel like your on the boat hours after you have been off. It's like being drunk without liquor. There are plenty of fishing places to be had and they even rent you a tube if you need it. Then again they can rent you out everything. Soooooo there is that. If you don't want to go far but want to relax on a wonderful lake. This is your place. I recommend staying on a boat all day fish and relaxing and taking a swim. It's worth the trip. Stay awesome Batman
