It is the culmination of multiple ethnic enclaves and a busy neighborhood that reigns supreme with character, color, and a cool factor that is unrivaled. It is one of my favorite places in all of the city and that's precisely why I've made it my 4300th review. My thoughts in snippets: :: What do you get when you combine Little India (Bangladesh / Pakistan), Little Nepal / Tibet, Little Colombia with sprinklings of Ecuadorian, Korean, Mexican, and Venezuelan folks? A wonderful neighborhood, that's what. :: Jackson Heights is also home to the largest LGBTQ community outside of Chelsea / Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan. The only other Pride parade outside of Manhattan happens here. :: Where there is diversity in people, there is diversity in food. A number of the most celebrated restaurants / food carts are found in Jackson Heights. One can come here and eat all day and there still would be amazing places left to explore. :: Food is an awesome draw, but the sketchy nightlife that ranges from lounges to dive bars is also a reason to come drink here. The activity here goes late into the wee hours, which makes it an interesting alternative to other neighborhoods in the city. :: It's not an express stop on the 7, but the 74th & Broadway station (#2) is easily one of the busiest stations on any subway line. There are several train lines that come here and a bus depot next to the subway, making this an ideal transportation hub. :: LGA bound? There are buses here that go straight to the airport. Minus Flushing and Astoria, there aren't many neighborhoods that offer public transit to the airport. :: Jackson Heights is adjacent to many other prominent neighborhoods that are some of the most interesting (and awesome) in the borough. They include Elmhurst, East Elmhurst, Woodside, Corona, and Astoria Heights. :: Roosevelt Avenue is one of the main arteries of the borough, but only in Jackson Heights does it truly come alive. From Jackson Heights and on, it's one of the few streets with activity happening at all times. :: Part of the neighborhood has been deemed historic ("Jackson Heights Historic District") and some of the old buildings between Northern Blvd and Roosevelt are classic, pre-war, and well preserved. _______________ (#1) The one and only, Queens. Based on a 1975 photograph, the mural is the work of a West Village artist, Ori Carino. It marks a spot dubbed "the birthplace of punk," where the four founding members of the group liked to hang out in their youth. Despite having lived in Forest Hills for a decade, I was unaware of the artwork's existence until I stumbled across it a few weeks ago. It is in the alleyway that connects 66th Avenue to 66th Road.

Everyone refers to Rego Park as Forest Hills. People like Leslie West, Waddy Wachtel, Ronnie Earl, etc., really lived in Rego Park and not Forest Hills but since we all went to the same schools we all referred to the entire neighborhood as Forest Hills. Anyway, this is just a ramp now that leads to a locked gate where no can access. When we were growing up there wee no locks and gates and we played stickball, touch football, ringolevio, punchball, handball, etc., and others, like the Ramones, Leslie West, etc., would hang out on the ramp ... lots of activity but now, all locked up, pretty sad!

So, driving with pizza on the dash. You could end up dropping the slice and dashing all your dreams. Or get a dash of tomato sauce on your clothes. Who knows. Not something that I recommend doing, but something that I end up doing all the time, and often end up regretting. Because it does have the tendency to go flying in One Direction (hi Niall Horan!) or another. If I'm lucky it might land on my lap the right way up. Then it's just a grease stain or two. If I'm not lucky I might totally mess up the rental car upholstery, stain my clothes, slice upside down on the floor or even go right out the window. Nobody is better at keeping stuff on the dashboard while driving with it but nevertheless this is not the best place to put it. Take the time and put it somewhere that it belongs. And again if you decide to do this anyway then I would say that it makes for a great photo op. You can actually steer on the road in a way that makes the pizza slide the way you want it to. It's pretty cool. Until you hit a lamppost. It's all fun and games until you hit a lamppost. What do you mean that wasn't a lamppost. Did anyone ever consider that a hit-and-run is sort of like a hit-it-and-quit-it but more violent and less sexy? It's not so much that you could get into a car crash because who really cares about the car but IT'S THAT YOU COULD LOSE YOUR F**KING PIZZA. Can you imagine your pizza ends up face down on the floor. I mean face up is no problem just eat the f**ker anyway but face down and you get a lot of hair and dirt all over the cheese and tomato and whatever and that's just not going to work out. I mean I've made it work out but it still diminishes the yumzlyness. So I strongly recommend you don't do this driving with Pizza on the dash crap. However I've done it so many times that I can't really give it a low rating because I'm ridiculously good at it. I've had quite a few unfortunate incidents because of my habit of doing this but the unfortunate incidents are usually to do with clothes and food and never to do with running people over or smashing a car up thankfully.
