Having…read morejust moved to Portland a month ago, there were a few "missing items" and "empty spaces" in my humble abode that needed filling. My next door neighbor alerted to me this place and I'm so glad. I picked up four dining chairs (sometimes they are priced as a package deal with a table, but these were actually priced individually and separate from the table). I thought about getting some sort of lounge or easy chair to read in but I haven't converted to Maine vehicle yet, so my Mazda wouldn't fit it. Next time! A gorgeous coffee table also caught my eye, so that item was also purchased. I had to make two trips, but hey-ho. I think prices are great. Obviously, you're getting used items but isn't there something really charming about having furniture that has been lovingly used? (As long as it doesn't smell like a dirty fart) You could go the route of IKEA and I have totally done so on occasion, but let's admit it, most of that crap is crap. Old used furniture was made with love. I can imagine that prices may have climbed in the past few years, though I only have Chicago Salvation Armies to compare it to, and I think the prices are still better here than Chicago five years ago. Stuff probably comes and goes fairly regularly so don't feel defeated on an initial visit. I will definitely venture back here.

Not only did my son have a variety of desks to consider, the prices were well below what I thought would be reasonable. The staff, after showing us around the store and unobtrusively checking in, they assisted us with getting our purchase to and into our vehicle. We will think of Restore-HfH first the next time we need home furnishings.

Do you know where your trash and recycles go? I toured ECO Maine today and I must say it is an…read moreamazing place.when you first enter the lot, you notice bales of plastic, metal cardboard and paper. Did you know that there are seven different types of plastic am that can be recycled. I also learned that until recently we shipped all of our bales of paper to China. They aren't taking any paper now, however ECO Maine is hoping they open up again soon, as they are storing all the paper at the plant. bext, We toured the facility itself and what a remarkable place. You see conveyors moving items arond. You see magnets attracting metal. You see air puffing only on certain types of plastic containers separating them. You even see people hand separating the items. My biggest thrill out of all there dynamic machines was the front loader pushing and lifting recycled items onto the conveyor belt. I just brought the kid out of me as I remembered playing with those Tonka Trucks. As the tour wound down I saw where all the trash ends up. It gets put in a hopper that is six, count them, six stories high. There the trash falls into one of two incinerators that heats up to 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit and burns into an ash. Unfortunately, no one has invented a good use for this ash, so it simply gets put in a land fill. This tour has opened my eyes as to how much goes into my recycles and trash once they leave my curb. I will certainly work hard at making sure items end up where they are supposed to!

Heart of Biddeford is an organization dedicated to revitalizing downtown Biddeford. They're…read moreinvolved with museum tours, entrepreneur's groups, the riverwalk project, the City Theater, and seemingly everything else happening to bring back the downtown. And this could work out really well. There's plenty of affordable space in town, an organized community, really interesting old buildings, and potential customers with disposable income nearby. The city is already on the edge of becoming an accidental artists colony, and it will be interesting to see what else can take root in Biddeford.

These two women know horses and how to teach riding and grooming. It was a great place to go. It was comfortable, not snobby. They became friends quickly with our family. And they're right across the street from their future home in the old Reny's building. I've gotten to know the people at Engine and some of my works have been shown in their old space. Now I can't wait to see what they do with this newer, larger, and (for me) more convenient space. There's also a FabLab onsite and tons of education opportunities for people of all ages. Want to join a group of people sketching the urban streetscape? Want to expose your 8 year old to 3D design and printing? Engine is what you're looking for.

They also host live music, comedians, and interactive art exhibits which have always proven to be fun. I definitely recommend checking out their schedule of events if you're in the area.
