I've been fortunate enough to live in the City of Pittsburgh in both the Regent Square (city side) neighborhood as well as Little Italy (Bloomfield). Both fantastic neighborhoods (Bloomfield is my beloved) close to downtown. I would often walk to and from town from Bloomfield. In addition, I worked downtown in city government and absolutely loved it. Everything about my hometown city is wonderful. We've evolved from the Iron City (steel industry) to a foodie, tech, and medical hub. The city boasts amazing turn of the century architecture (and older) with new and modern buildings. The City of Bridges has beautiful views of the Three Rivers, Mount Washington, etc. from Point State Park which is a large green space along the water. There's nothing more awe-inspiring than driving through the Fort Pitt Tunnels to have the entire city in front of you. Oh, and how could I forget? It's definitely a sports town. "How 'bout dem Stillers, yinz guys?".

Overall, it is a wonderful city! I am continuously amazed at the amount of activities and cultural amenities that a city the size of Pittsburgh has. Sure, we have the Steelers, Pens and Pirates. But there is a world class symphony, opera and ballet. Tons of options for theater. And top notch museums and gardens. The city itself, especially downtown, is fairly well maintained. There are always street teams out making sure there isn't garbage laying around and in general, streets and sidewalks are fairly well maintained. The negatives are that with all the one way streets, it can be tough to navigate downtown. And, in the winter if we get more than about two inches of snow, the snow removal is awful. Overall, though, it is a wonderful city with plenty to do and see for people of all ages. I highly recommend a visit!

While this library is a wonderful establishment and serves the community of Beaver unceasingly, it…read morehas advanced room for improvement. The building is getting old and needs some rejuvenation. For instance, most of the building is adorned with large glass windows, especially in its center, making it quite hot and uncomfortable to sit for extended periods of time. A few blinds in the library would eliminate this and the facility would be much more comfortable and cooler during the summer months. The internet connection is something that is a lot left to be desired; I have registered complaints about this numerous times to no avail. In the back of the library, the signal is weak! You cannot even watch YouTube videos or listen to a podcast without an interruption eventually occurring. Something simple like installing a router above the ceiling would eliminate weak spots. Just a few of these simplistic improvements would be outstanding. That being all said, the STAFF is amazing, a VAST collection of books, and, specifically, an extraordinary collection of local and Pennsylvania history that few public libraries can match! It's a relaxing place to write, research, and conduct whatever business your intentions instruct you.

Market Square - The lack of crowd control was insane!

Felt like you walked back into fun simplier times; European huts, selling various themed items, live Christmas music, beverages and other delicious treats. A short walking distance, you will find the Highmark icerink, and in the center a sparking, festive 3D Christmas tree. Great event for locals, and if your in from out of town visiting.

It was recently renovated just in time for the NFL Draft to allow more accessibility and better space for events. In the public area, there are some tables and chairs to sit and enjoy the area. They also seem to plan to have a lot more semi-permenant attractions in the space. Currently their is a roller rink (which is surprisingly affordably priced) . It has historically been home to the Holiday Market (which was moved into the theater area this year because of the construction). I hope the market does move back because Market Square was definitely the better space for it. There is plenty of parking nearby in garages, surface lots and street parking. The one downside is that it is really tough to drive through, especially with the way the renovated it. Drivers seem to be stopping to take in the new look or don't understand directional signage so there is often traffic backups.
