Goodwill has many convenient attended donation centers around town. This is the one that I frequent…read morethe most. It is open 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. All and donation centers are closed on Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. They accept gently used clothing and household items in saleable condition. They do not accept furniture. Check out the list of items they accept and don't accept. Goodwill is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable nonprofit organization. Donations in good condition are tax deductible. After you drop off your donations, Goodwill takes them to their processing center to sort and ship to a Goodwill Tulsa store. Shoppers then buy these items. The sales support jobs, job training and job placement services that they provide which enable people to improve their lives through the power of work. When you donate, you are also doing your part to help the environment: they reuse and recycle items that would otherwise go into the landfill. This is the newest YMCA in East Tulsa. It opened about two years ago and it's located right next to…read moreEast Central High School. Since their facilities are physically connected to the school, they have more security measures than in other Y locations. The doors are usually locked but someone is at the front desk all the time during opening hours. Members use a key fob to enter. The staff is super nice and they genuinely interact with people in a friendly manner. Student athletes use the facilities regularly, so there's a schedule on the wall outside the basketball court and the weight room indicating when the students are scheduled to be there. The rest of the students get a discounted membership ($19 a month) and no joining fee. They offer small group training classes as well as cycle classes. They have cardio equipment and weight machines as well as their Myzone monitoring. There's also a lap track on the second floor that loops around the basketball court. They have community health workshops and other programming available for parents, senior citizens and students. I'm so glad this is available for our community!

Tulsa Girls Art School is so amazing! It is one of my favorite nonprofits. They are an afterschool…read morearts program that girls start to attend in third grade and continue to do so until their senior year of high school. Essentially, they provide continued support and wonderful programming throughout the span of 10 years of their lives. They not only provide the space, but also transportation, supplies and instruction. What is even cooler is that the students have many opportunities to sell the artwork they create throughout the years so they're also learning about finances, art show curation and public speaking. When a piece of artwork sells, they put 30% of its proceeds into the student's individual micro-savings account. Senior girls receive 100% of their sales. These earnings allow the girls to save money for art supplies, education materials or college. Finally, a great way to support them is by attending their annual gala, usually held at the end of October or beginning of November. It is by far the most creative fundraiser and it is always very fun. You will also have the opportunity to purchase amazing artwork.

"you have never really LIVED until you have done something for someone who can never repay you" ----Mother Theresa My family and I are forever grateful to the great souls at this hospice house. Many thanks to the staff and the great folks that donate to the hospice house. Although, we haven't lost our loved one as of yet, one week at the hospice house and we feel so supported. Going through these tough days are easier by visits from priests (at least 3 times a week), food prepared daily, attentive staff, and all the comforts of home. I can not say thank you enough!!! My loved one feels better about transitioning knowing that prayer comes from 90 year old priests and deacons that have traveled as missionaries throughout the world (with more than 65-70 years of serving under their belt). I think my loved one is in good hands!
