Our daughter has been going to LGTH since she was 5 months old and now she is almost one. Honestly, this place wasn't our first choice, or even our second choice, but I am so glad we picked this location. Every Director and teacher is so nice and caring, but if you have an infant, the Lilac room is where you need to be. All the teachers in that room are amazing, but the lead teacher, Ms Brianna is amazing. Kind, thorough, sweet, organized, and keeps the class fun. We get updates all throughout the day with lots is pictures of our daughter having fun at music and Spanish class. We love all the culture she is being exposed too! We will be sad to leave if we ever have to move neighborhoods. 10/10 so far. read more

Worked here for 9 years. This place has high turnovers staffing especially upper management. Little green is not what it used to be. Their enrollment has drastically dropped and it shows when entering the school. The facility is dirty and cluttered. The rooms are not regularly cleaned not mopped, vacuumed, or especially deep cleaning the rugs regularly. The infant rooms are filthy. children who wear white or light colored clothing will not be that color during pickup that be the first sign of their "cleanliness". It's a pricy daycare 2,500 for full time children but the portion sizes for meals are not sufficient for children (same portion for an infant & a 4 year old). Ask to see pictures of portion size. The laundry machine has black mold growing for years. Children's clothes and toys are washed daily in hazardous filth. The enrollment director will say anything just for you to sign up, half of the times lies. Especially the rooftop it's not a play space it once used to be. The play structure is falling apart and the wood is rotting. Hence, why they don't tour the rooftop. They try pushing the "green environmental organic trend" nothing green about this place. The cloth organic diaper system was once great also falling apart. Cloth diapers come in shredded from being old, not cleaned properly many times cloths come in with previous stains. There was 2 incidents were an infant teacher broke a 6 month old infants leg. Same teacher burnt a child's leg causing 3rd degree burns. Nothing was done to the teacher, teacher still continues her journey with the place. Please be careful enrolling your children. This place sweeps everything under the rug to keep them afloat. I was so happy to find Little Green Treehouse (LGTH) after leaving Bright Horizons (Loop). It is the ideal daycare for the exacting parent. The staff is enthusiastic and professional, the location is convenient, accessible, and secure, and the rooms are clean, cheerful, and well appointed. The kids have interesting and active days with a wide range of activity including visits to the park, water play, painting/coloring, story time, spanish class, music class, and more. They are only offered healthy, nutritious organic food and the menu can be customized to your preference if you prefer vegetarian or gluten free, for example. They are also happy to serve your child the type of milk you prefer (we opt for coconut instead of dairy and bring it ourselves on a weekly basis). Although we don't cloth diaper at home, and the daycare does, it was an easy transition for us and our kiddo has never come home with a diaper rash. LGTH generally offers 3 scheduling options (full time: 5 day or part time: MWF or TH) but they are very accommodating if you happen to sign up for part time and then find you need a few additional daycare days here and there. And the teachers... Oh, the teachers!!! THEY ARE THE BEST. They are so loving, patient and professional. They worked with us to come up with a plan that would ease our kiddo's transition from home care to daycare (emphasizing routine and incrementally increasing time at LGTH) and we followed their recommendations exactly. Our kiddo loves them so much and so do we. Some of them even speak Spanish, which was a huge plus for us. I am also happy to be part of a daycare community that cares about environmental sustainability and does food/toy drives throughout the year to assist less fortunate families. Our child attended this school. The teachers were lovely and very smart but did not have a lot of control over the classroom of toddlers. I am sure that sounds funny because we are talking about 2 year olds. We brushed it off as the age BUT when we visited other schools and noted that the environment was calmer, cleaner and more established we realized that there were better options for our child. I cannot blame the teaching staff -- this is through no fault of their own but due to a lack of support staff and proactive assistants. I really wanted to like this school and have our child stay at LGTH, but in the end we found that there were more quality schools in the city for the same tuition fees (15-25K per year). The front desk staff and enrollment director were all lovely, but we did notice that the leadership from the director(s) at the Ashland location was clearly lacking. The director was a bit too detached and not supportive of the teachers, parents or children compared to other directors we know or have connected with through this journey. The teachers try very hard to create a sense of community by hosting room parties but they need more help so they can focus on engaging the children. It feels like a very nice day care in reality. That isn't a bad thing, but we expected a different experience for the fees that we were paying. There are other schooling options out there for your child if you have some time to look. I would agree that this is an expensive daycare, but having your child genuinely be happy to go to school every morning makes it worth it. My son has been at Little Green Tree House for just over a year and although we had a bit of a rough start our first week (pink eye and a fall) it's been nothing but good since. The teachers are great with the kids. They have a very cool enclosed rooftop and take the kids often on buggy rides when the weather cooperates. And since my son has switched to the advanced toddler room, I've watched him use the potty, count to 10 in Spanish, recite his ABCs, accomplish hard puzzles and so much more in such a little amount of time. I'm always amazed when I come to pick my son up that the kids are well-mannered and playing quietly together and under control. The Directors are very friendly and approachable. Our son attended LGTH from January to June 2014. The only reason why he is no longer there is because we moved out of state. While I see many comments about the day care being expensive, this was the same for every day care facility we toured in Chicago. Chicago isn't cheap in general, so this shouldn't be a shock. I have nothing but positive things to say about the teachers, the front desk people, and the directors!! We LOVED LOVED LOVED our Bonsai Room teachers! I certainly felt that they took excellent care of our little guy and kept us up to speed on all of his daily activities. I trusted them so much that I even asked if any of them would sit for him outside of school. Elsie, Kasia, and Meg...WE MISS YOU!! A good daycare is hard to find and a great daycare is truly a blessing. The Little Green Tree-house in the West Loop is great. My daughter started there as a little peanut at only 10 weeks old. We were apprehensive as she entered a world of giants where all the others in her class were 9 months old or older. It immediately set my mind at ease when I saw all of what they were able to do with her adapting all of the art projects to someone her age all while the older babies did the project at higher levels. They also let the children freely interact so rather than keeping the small baby sheltered, they allowed them to interact with the others. The teachers taught nurturing and caring techniques so when she became the big girl in the class, she actually knew to rock the smaller babies in the bouncer chair when they were in it crying to to touch them gently. The best part is how the loving and caring environment pushes the babies to develop. Jamie saw the older kids doing their thing which pushed her to keep up. This allowed her to develop at an accelerated pace. While there were bumps in the road and various transitions of teachers, all of them were wonderful. In fact, I think my daughter likes some of them more than she likes me. They take the time to learn their individual personalities and adapt their interactions accordingly. We have been sending our baby to LGTH since he was just 12 weeks old and we have loved it! Being a working parent is very hard but they put me to ease as I know he is in very good hands. Both of our daughters (age 5 and almost 3) have been learning and growing at Little Green Tree House since they were infants. I love the teachers, directors, classrooms and curriculum. I love that every few hours a fresh, energized adult is caring for my child since they have circle time, music class, Spanish class, outdoor time, and free play in multiple different areas that keep them engaged and learning all day (we didn't get that with a nanny). Our girls come home with great crafts, curiosity about new subjects, stories of their friends, and ...messy clothes from all the fun they had that day. Our family has been so happy there and I am delighted that my girls spent their early years in a fun, playful, creative, enriching environment. P.S. We've been part of the LIttle Green Tree House Family for 7 months now and I can't say enough good things! The Bonsai room is absolutely wonderful - each of the teachers are so sweet and bond with all the kids. Our daughter definitely got a bunch of sicknesses - but today she is no worse for wear. It took her a while to get used to daycare, but now naps well, loves singing, likes all different types of food and started walking/communicating early. While LGTH might work well for people who are looking for a high end, highly expensive babysitting service, it is not a place where you can send your child to 'learn'. We found our child's teachers inexperienced and the administrators unhelpful. They could not understand our child or even provide the right incentives to help the child learn. They wanted us to get a 'psych eval' done on a child that was exhibiting normal growth behavior. Our doctor said that our child was extremely bright and exhibiting all the normal growth patterns. He also said that we should take the child out from a place that doesn't even understand the basics of child behavior and shamelessly suggests that something is wrong with the child. Thankfully, we took our doctor's advice and immediately put our child into another daycare that was recommended to us by one of our friends. We think that was the best decision ever! In a couple of weeks, the teachers understood our child perfectly and helped transition into a new environment. Our child has been doing well in this new environment for several months now. All the stress and anxiety created by Little Green Tree House is finally behind us and with a sense of pride, we can finally look into the eyes of the snooty Directors at LGTH and say "You were wrong!" read more

This is a very expensive day care, but worth it in my opinion. I looked at a lot of places, and others were not that much cheaper, considering how much less they offered. My daughter has been here 5 months, and I feel secure that she is in good hands. The teachers are very committed and make sure to know each child very well, so they get totally individualized attention. The former Business Manager did have kind of a snobby, corporate attitude, but she is gone now, and everyone else is very warm and helpful. The teachers definitely get attached to the kids in their rooms, and the kids to them! I love that they provide lesson plans (even for the infants), weekly email updates and pictures of the kids' progress and adventures, and that they take them out for frequent trips to the park. The only part that I think is a bit challenging in the infant rooms is that since all of the kids nap at different times, they're always trying to sleep with all the lights on and lots of noise, which can be hard for sensitive babies. My 3-year old went here for a few months while we were in transition. Pros: She really liked it. The staff was very friendly, and seem to really enjoy working with kids. Great facility, organic food, indoor and outdoor gross motor space available. Billing is electronic, which is convenient. Parents have key fobs to enter the building, also convenient and safe. Cons: Costly. Difficult to park on Ashland for pickup/drop off. For the same price my daughter spent a year at the Montessori Academy of Chicago just a few blocks away from here, and I felt that the educational structure there was superior. Snobbery in Day Care. I will first say that we are expecting parents and do NOT have a child here. We were out one morning visiting several potential daycare centers. All welcomed us in, without appointments, were friendly & happy to show us around and give us information--except Little Green Tree House. We walked in and two women were at reception and neither was especially welcoming. I got a "who do these people think they are?" vibe from one of them. They advised us of when they do "tours" for prospective parents and informed us their waiting list was frozen for 10 months. I had filled out their online info request form 3 months prior and never got a reply. They are also by far the most expensive of the day cares we were considering. As much as I love their philosophy, I call them "Designer Daycare". They are in demand, & their price & attitude reflects it. Find a daycare that cares about the development and well-being of your child, not their wallets. This place is overpriced and in the business of swindling money simply to make a profit. We were going to take our daughter to this daycare and put down a deposit of $650. When, one week later, we changed our minds after visiting the place for an hour when toddlers were actually there at full capacity, they refused to return the deposit, though they didn't spend one penny on our daughter. They refused to make an exception. Here's what we saw, signalling that LGTH is overpriced and not worth the $1700 a month (or $100 a day part-time): 1. Toddlers eating white erase board markers. (and they call themselves eco-friendly and all green?!) 2. Toddlers with their noses running the whole hour, with nobody noticing. 3. Developmentally inappropriate activities--- way above the toddler's head; very little enthusiasm. 4. 'Lesson plans" are sent out weekly by their teachers. This seems very exciting for parents who aren't teachers and trained in education, but again, they are inappropriate for the age-group. More than anything, we were disappointed that this daycare was more interested in making a profit from our family-- for what would amount to a trivial amount of money to them, but a lot to us-- and couldn't care less about the potential satisfaction of a future customer. It's clear that they aren't in the business for the good of the child. Find a non-profit for your kiddo where everyone believes in the mission for the mission, not for the money. read more

In the past two years, every time when I saw scars in my daughter's face, I hated myself putting her into this daycare center. We wanted a convenient location and good place. Thus, we selected the Little Green Tree house at 118 S Ashland Ave, Chicago IL 60607. But we are wrong. This place turns out to be a nightmare after my daughter transferred to Maple room!. Let me tell you the story: The Friday before the Martin Luther King Day in 2016, my wife got a phone call from teacher Ms. A., been told my daughter got scratched in the face slightly, no blood. I went there, OMG, no bleeding? WTF, the scrach was so long and deep! from eye to cheek! we complained to the teachers, Ms E and Ms A, and we asked teacher to keep the other girl away from my daughter. They promised they would, and the injury would not happen again. the report was simple, just like nothing big has happened. The next Monday, just two hour later after we dropped her to the day care center, a phone call came in, another scratches!!! My daughter told us that the same girl did it. We reported to the director immediately. They gave us three options: 1) transfer my daughter to another classroom (not the other girl); 2) shadowing the other girl, keep her away from my daughter; 3) leave the school. We chose option 2-to have the other girl shadowed. However, do you know what 's happening there? Every time I visited the room, the other little girl was just next to my daughter. Is this the right way to shadow???!!! Later on, Ms Es and Ms A. left their job. and Ms Q came back from her maternity leave. Since the other teacher left, we emphasized the importance of shadowing to Ms. Q. Her response was that's unfair to keep an lovely little girl away from where she wanted to go?! Ridiculous! This LOVELY LITTLE GIRL has injured my daughter on her face TWICE! LEFT HER SCARS ON HER FACE!!! Can you do what she wants to do? If yes, what's the point of shadowing?! What's your responsibility? This is how the LGTH does thing and keeps their promises! So, please do send your lovely ones there, otherwise, you may left with similar nightmare~ Since the two teachers left, only Ms Q in the Maple room, the teacher to students rate drop to 1:N. there are some other helper in later two months. during that time, my daughter don't want to enter the class room. She cried very hard, and hide behind me, just don't want to enter the door. that never happen before. Everyone smile to me, but absolutely not to my daughter when i left. finally, we decide to quite. leave the Maple room, leave this center. but two year past, the scars in my daughters face are still there. Who should take the responsibility? You, Little Green Tree House, Ms E, Ms A and Ms Q. the the directors. you ruined my daughter's good memories of her childhood. Little Green Tree House (LGTH) is as good as it gets!! Our 2 1/2 year old daughter has been at LGTH for 8 months and we LOVE LOVE LOVE it! We weren't looking exclusively for eco friendly daycare but now that we're here everywhere else seems sub par. The food is so nutricious, tasty, innovative (you can also have the caterers prepare dinner for you to take home - YUM. The teachers/staff/directors are so loving, caring, energetic, knowledgable. We are now moving to the suburbs and (gasp) have to pull our daughter out of LGTH. It's breaking our hearts. There is no place out there like LGTH - every other place pales in comparison. Our daughter has been going there for 3 months now and I have seen so much growth and development in terms of speech, sharing with others and being comfortable in new environments. Our experience has been awful!!!!!! Little Green Tree House's adminstration office is horrible. We have been on the waiting list for 4 months and still no spots avaialable, although others have gotten spots. We have been told three times there is a spot available for our daughter, only to be later told the spot is no longer available. When we recieve the alarming news after plans have been made, there is no regard or empathy to how this is affecting us or plans for child care. The most recent time, I was told she had a spot but only a week before our daughter needed to start day care, I recieved a voicemail saying there has been a mistake and no spots were available. 1 week before she was to start!!! And this was during the holidays. Obviously, we were very upset. We asked for our $200 deposit back. Director said no, again no empathy or regard for how rediculous this process has been for our family. We pressed further, the Director said she would ask the owners but then never even called us back. Horrible. read more

My daughter started attending the Little Green Tree House when she was 3.5 and just finished her schooling to start kindergarten this fall. Our experience with the school and teachers as a whole was outstanding. She formed a strong bond with every lead teacher she had and I know that she is more advanced for her age, based on the learnings, relationships and skills she has developed. She was in a unique situation, where she needed to stay in the 4 year old class, even though she had turned 5 in January, and her teacher, Mr Bryan, created new lessons so the younger children could follow along, and my daughter and her fellow pre-k classmates were still challenged. I think the person below summed up the tree house when he says they are out to get your money and that's what they want the most. My son was selected to go to here on a part time basis and was called and confirmed. When we got there to fill out the paper work we were notified that his spot was taken by a full time student. We were stunned and appalled. They did not call to let us know he was taken off or was replaced. They said we can be placed on the waiting list (which was no guarantee) and cost $150. So they agreed to place us on a waiting list (the list never to be called) for free. I'm very disappointed but glad this event happened early to prevent us from going to this highly suspect place. If you can find a better place, stay away from LGTH. I have mixed reviews about this place: a) They have had many violations including convicted child offender working for them and it took FOX news to tell them this. b) Almost every day there is an incident reported regarding pink eye, Hand Foot and mouth etc. There hygiene sucks. My biggest pain point. c) Kids don't get personal attention at all. I understand it's a day care but one evening I realized my son was very sick when I picked him up and no one called me during the day even when I requested to keep an eye out. d) Teachers keep on changing. This is my biggest pain point. The evening teacher has no idea what my child did during the day. e) Some teachers just don't care enough. There are times when my child has come back with poopy clothes and wasn't wiped completely. f) No breakfast. For a place which is so pricey they don't offer breakfast. They will offer under certain conditions but it is not a schedule. ( They are the most expensive school in the area) g) I don't see much academic curriculum. h) There is one problem or another constatnly with either AC not working or power not working etc etc... Having said that, some good points are: a) Some teachers do care a lot. Our daughter attended LGTH for 5 weeks, from 15 to 20 weeks of age. The only reason we left LGTH was because my husband got a great job offer out-of-state that allowed us to be closer to extended family and therefore we relocated. At any rate, I cannot say enough good things about LGTH. Our daughter's teachers were all so knowledgeable, energetic, and caring. I immediately felt safe and secure leaving our baby in their hands, which says a lot as I am a first-time mom who worries easily. Not only were our little girl's basic needs met, but I truly felt she was being stimulated intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically, even at only 4 months of age. In only 5 weeks, all of her teachers really got to know her and she was clearly bonded to them. They really got to know her personality and respected her as an individual, not just a young baby, if that makes sense. She was happy every single morning as I left and every single evening that I picked her up. Communication was top-notch. With the infant seed note, we were well-informed as to her eating, sleeping, and diapers throughout the day, as well as notes to inform us of the need for additional supplies. Best of all, our teacher always wrote a fun little note about what our daughter enjoyed doing that day or a new experience. And the verbal communication with the teachers at the beginning and end of day was excellent as well. I really felt like I knew what our little girl did each day. I experienced nothing but the utmost professionalism from the teachers, front desk staff, and director. The building is secure and also well-monitored by front desk staff. Although I am quite happy with the daycare we now use here in Wisconsin, I truly don't believe we'll ever be able to top LGTH. High quality child care (in a safe and beautiful building to boot!) like this is worth its weight in gold. read more

We just love LGTH. From day one we felt comfortable to leave our 3 yr old son where we felt that love and needed care were provided. Teachers are so nice and enthusiastic. Love the fact that we receive a detailed e-mail and some pictures from the teacher every day. Puts a smile on your face and makes it easier to imagine their busy day. Nice to know they have a play ground on the roof too though they go to the park every day if weather permits. It was important to us that school provides healthy meals and even more so that it is an ECO friendly place. We just wish the nap time would be optional for the 3 year olds and older or at lease shortened to 1.5 hr because if they don't sleep they have to be still for about 2.5 hrs. I still give it 5 stars since sleep for the kids is important but once again that's if they sleep. read more

My son has gone to LGTH for a little over two years (started at 18mths & he is almost four) and it has been an amazing experience for us! I have loved all of his teachers and more importantly, so has he!! I feel like he has learned a lot during his time there but also has been allowed the freedom to have fun during the day and be a kid (or better put - they make the learning fun so that he can do both at the same time). I feel like he is well taken care of and truly loved by all of his teachers - so if he can't be with me 24/7, I can't think of a better place for him to be. I love this place! My son started there when he was almost three to gain exposure to other children, since he had been with a nanny since birth. In contrast to the first place that we tried of comparable price, the people were lovely, warm and caring. They emphasize and expand children's strenths, and it was terrific to see how my son blossomed with their teachers. I saw that someone commented on the "lack of control" of the classroom below. My take on this is that they treat toddlers like toddlers (not little adults) and allow for lots of play time, which makes the kids happy and also helps them learn. I personally would not mark them down for this, and have only good things to say. I can't say enough good things about LGTH. Our son has been there since 3 months old and is now 17 months. The teachers have been dedicated, loving and very supportive. I have never once had to think twice about what our son was doing or up to. There is a monthly curriculum in the infant room that gives your baby way more than a nanny ever could. In the toddler room the curriculum is weekly and both have incorporated all types of learning, art, music, motor skills and sign language. The socialization and education alone our son has received at LGTH is well worth the price tag. My piece of mind and the superior care he receives are more than worth it. My daughter has been going here for two years and she loves it! Yes, it is expensive, but I can tell where my money is going. They hire staff that have a formal, academic background in education or childhood development. Almost all of their teachers are college graduates with AT Least a bachelor's degree in Education and they hire people with previous experience working with children. I love that my daughter's teacher has an academic background as well as prior real world experience with children. Another thing I love is that they use cloth diapers! This has totally sped up our potty training because my daughter can tell when she is wet (as opposed to wearing disposable diapers) no child wants to be wet or in a dirty diaper, and having a cloth diaper on helps her feel what just happened and to make that mind/body connection necessary for potty training. Also, because of her cloth diapers, she never has diaper rash and they change the diapers of all the children five times a day. I love that! I also love that they serve organic, healthy meals. I want my child to have the best and I'm willing to pay for it. Lastly, their staff to child ratios are fantastic! There are always 3 to 4 teachers in my child's classroom of 16 children. The DCFS only requires a ratio of 1 teacher to every 8 children, but Little Green Tree House always has more teachers on-hand, so that children get more personalized attention and supervising. I have stopped by on my lunch break and often seen the directors helping children go to sleep at nap time. wow, what a way to go above and beyond the call of duty. Most directors I know sit in their office all day, but are somehow never around to take a phone call or answer my email. This is NOT the case at LGTH, as the directors there do a great job of making themselves available. MY child is happy and thriving here! I highly recommend this place if you can afford it. read more

Our son started at LGTH when he was 19 months old. He is now 4 1/2 and we are sad to be saying goodbye! He is now in his fourth classroom at LGTH and I can honestly say that each room/teacher has provided such a positive experience for my son and our family. Each nail biting (for parents) transition was handled beautifully, and the expectations were adjusted perfectly for each age group. My son has learned so much through the weekly themes, vocabulary, social experiences, problem solving, and simple life lessons he gained at LGTH. The teachers really are good at what they do and know how to challenge each child! As a parent that also lives in the neighborhood and is home with my children, I get to see the LGTH classes out in the neighborhood and at the parks on a daily basis. I am always impressed with the professional, yet loving way the kids are handled while out of the building. The caregivers really watch the kids closely, yet make every outing a fun learning experience. Most importantly, my son races to his classroom each morning and doesn't want to leave in the afternoon. He loves it and is always in the best mood when he comes home at the end of the day. What more could a parent want? In regards to the negative reviews about the administration, I haven't seen that at all. In fact, we have had to make many special requests over the years, as well as, enrollment changes, and have always had prompt and positive responses. In summary: If you are looking for a loving childcare environment, with a great community and fun learning experiences..... you will be more than happy to have your child at Little Green! read more

My son attends Little Green Tree House at the Lakeview location, 3111 N. Ashland. I couldn't find this location on Yelp to review it but both are owned by the same individuals. My son started in February 2013 and we have had nothing but an amazing experience at LGTH Lakeview. His teachers have shown a vested interest in his development and genuinely care about him, as well as the other children in his class. The time and effort that his lead teacher,Nicole, puts in outside of her working hours at LGTH is amazing. In terms of my son's classroom, I disagree with previous posts that the teachers are unable to maintain control of a room full of toddlers. Maybe the previous posters do not have very active children so they do not comprehend the enormous task of maintaining control of a room full of toddlers, especially boys! When I have stopped by or picked up my son, the children are either fully engaged in an activity or are sitting so peacefully at their tables. This is a key learning for children as it is helps prepare them all for kindergarten. LGTH Hawthorn room is definitely succeeding in this area! I love the daily reports we receive. I know new words my son used that day or what he found the most enjoyable (food, activity, or spotting at the park or on their walks). The teachers know about my son to the same level as I, because they do care. I would and do recommend LGTH Lakeview to my dearest friends and to all the Yelpers out there as well. read more

LGTH has been great for our Daughter(s). Our oldest just left to attend Kindergarten and we've found that she's likley advanced compaired to her peers (reading skills, social skills, etc). We did leave for a bit to attempt a cheaper option, but ended up returning due to many issues at the competition (wear and tear, communication, teacher engagement, etc). Happy to return, but there is a price for this service. The front desk staff has always been stellar, the teachers that have stayed in place are solid and the curriculum is very well done. Besides price, the only other complaint we've had in recent year or so is the amount of turnover. Not sure if this is due to being distracted while opening up their northside location, but the Ashland location did experience a rash of hires and departures, which was disruptive. However, the core teachers for both our daughters (one is still there) are in place and that has kept the care high and consistant. Would recommend if you can afford this. read more
