The Corning Glass Company is in the City of Corning, and still has its HQ here today. They maintain a great museum here that allows visitors to see the glass being made as well as the history of it all and to make a purchase or two if they would like. The museum has glass from as far back as you can imagine, they have done their homework and have a very all encompassing collection. They have a library to complement that collection and on any given day you will see students here using that library. The city has a nice commercial district, mostly made out of brink now since a fire destroyed it in the past. Its a pleasant place to walk in nice weather, and while they can get snow in winter, the rest of the year tends to be lovely here. I often come here with visitors to the WNY area. The museum is always a hit. They share their schools with the City of Painted Post, just next door.

Very nice and relaxing Sunset Cruise along Cayuga Lake for a great price. We were about two minutes…read moreaway from when they were going to launch and Captain Chris called to check in if we were on our way before they left without us. Our tour guide was very sweet and made sure we were all comfortable during the two hour ride. They also have Eco tours, which we could definitely tell she was into. A smaller lake close by was closed off completely due to a deadly algae, which she then collected algae from the lake and took the sample under a microscope and invited anyone to come check it out. Her interest made it that much more personable and I enjoyed it. Not the bad algae though, obviously. She even offered to take pictures for us. The sunset was beautiful and on the way back we saw some water falls. Something to consider before booking. The difference between this sunset cruise and the Charter sunset cruise is because it is more private with 6 passengers per tour at a higher rate and starts at 6:30pm-8:30pm with daily cruises available, whereas Ithaca boat tours allows up to 24 people starting at 7:30pm-9:30pm with cruises only on Friday/Saturday. We didn't mind if there was going to be more people on board, but there were only about 8 of us on the boat that night anyway. I also like that it starts at a later time so we could relax and get a nice meal beforehand. I would recommend this tour. Don't forget it's BYOB! Have fun!

Corning's Gaffer District is a great place to go if you are looking for a relaxing holiday, or just…read moreto unwind from the busy life we all have. It's a small town after all. So, a weekend would be perfect, i.e. do not expect a whole lot to see. The glass-making session was such a unique experience. You can pick from making a colorful glass ornament to a vibrant glass flower. It's required to pick up your glasswork the next day from the proper cooling and packout processes. The museum part was also quite eye-opening to see what people can make with glass materials. As for restaurants, I personally like the Old World Cafe & Ice Cream and the Cugini Italian Market & Cafe. Absolutely amazing experience…read more The meteorite piece near the entrance completely blew me away. Seeing glass connected to space stopped me in my tracks. It felt both scientific and magical at the same time. The industrial glass exhibits were fascinating (glass shapes so much of our everyday life), and the live glassblowing demos were mesmerizing. The kids were completely locked in & now we may need to introduce them to Blown Away. It's incredibly family-friendly. The LEGO building area and magnet play space were perfect hands-on breaks for the kids. And the café? So good. Ramen, Monte Cristo (omg), mousse cake (highly recommend), IPA, and pizza slices for the kids. All fresh and surprisingly elevated for museum dining. Educational, interactive, beautiful, and fun & absolutely worth the drive. Bonus: Kids are free & admission is good for two days! We'll definitely be back.
