Now, it's a rest stop for weary travelers along I-77, down to the RGV. It's been decorated with beautiful, colorful mosaics that depict colorful scenes on the ranches out in South Texas. The restroom is clean, well lit, and offers a few vending machines inside. There's some TxDOT propaganda posters reminding drivers not to text or drink and drive. Good advice. The area around the restrooms is well lit and well-landscaped. There's all kinds of trees and places you could walk a dog in the shade around here. Just watch for snakes.

The parking lot is huge separating 18-wheelers to the vehicles. It's very seldom that rest stops have museums inside them, but at this one they do. Very cool. History about the general area and who was the mastermind behind the creation of the rest stop. I learned facts about Seguin that I knew nothing about. Amazing! The ladies restroom was immaculate clean and smelled good too! I admired the turquoise blue doors and how pretty the restroom was. I can't wait to stop here again!

So my father being as old as he is has to stop every 60 miles to go to the bathroom, damn all that medicine he takes. Any ways....i decided to stop and stretch a bit while he ran in. Right when you get into parking lot it's free and clear of any trash. The bathrooms are located inside the rest stop building that has a small museum in it with snacks and drinks. There is even a kids play area right outside that is pretty solid. New and shaded area for a quick pic nic and a few nice trees with park benches underneath them. Now if you have the four legged family pet there is also a dog walking trail. I don't of course so I didn't check it out. I'm really impressed. It felt like I was in a huge park ready to enjoy some perfect scenery. If you ever need to stop and stretch this is a location I would suggest. It's definitely not like the scene in the movie "There's Something about Mary" with Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz. If you haven't seen this movie before sure to YT that scene. You will get the joke. It's got a rare restroom here in the middle of the freeway, which is more efficient than one on each side of the roadway like elsewhere! The restrooms here induce some sort of vertigo with me here. Someone has gone to great lengths to tile the inside of this place with a mosaic of colors, which, in my opinion, is rather disorientating and makes me dizzy! But, the coolest part of the tile work is a large mosaic of swimming in the Frio river with a rope swing off a Texas Cypress tree. It's picturesque, but it is a restroom. Outside in the rest area, they've got placards to teach y'all a bit about the Texas area and history, with a big Texas Lone Star made of metal in the lobby area. There was plenty of parking when I went, both for cars and for RVs. The place was well-lit and safe. Someone was actively working in the center, and there was a repairman in the building when I went, so it was pretty busy. There was a playground and picnic tables too, if you're interested in getting out on a slide or monkey bars and eating some snacks. Really, this is a great Texas rest stop that makes travelling the miles and miles of Texas to be a pleasure!

As much as I love Buc-ee's, I had a really disappointing experience today…read more I usually buy bakery items, snacks, and fuel, but this time my child grabbed a chicken and fries basket with ranch and ketchup. Since I was already carrying several things, I set the ranch cups and ketchup packets on top of my closed purse while heading to checkout. At the register, I handed over the food basket, ranch cups, pastries, nuts, and everything else. We spent about $75 on snacks and another $60 on fuel. Then the cashier asked, "Ma'am, are you trying to steal ketchup?" I was completely caught off guard. I have never stolen anything in my life and honestly didn't even know ketchup packets were something that had to be paid for. When she asked how many I had, I told her 3 or 4, and I immediately paid for them. There was never any argument or hesitation. It was simply an honest mistake. What made the situation upsetting was how embarrassing it felt to be accused in front of other customers. Maybe there was a sign posted near the hot food section, but I didn't pick up the food myself and never saw it. I just wish there had been a little more understanding, especially considering we had already spent well over $100 in the store. A simple explanation that the sauces were an extra charge would have gone a lot further than making me feel like I was trying to steal. I still love Buc-ee's, but I left feeling embarrassed and disappointed.

Never-the-less, it is listed here. In 2 months time, I have been through the entire state of Texas, traveling on I-10 three times. The first 2 times, I only drove for like an hour and was practically run off the side of the road by a Semi-Truck. He turned his blinker on and came right on over. I was so scared, my husband took over right after I pulled off at an exit. The third time, I had no choice but to be brave and take my chances. Yet again, there were 2 truckers that had me really scared. They pull over whenever they feel like it. It is insane! I can't say they were Texans, because these trucks are from anywhere! I've been through & stayed in Seguin a few times, just off the Interstate. If you are Eastbound on I-10 from Houston to Beaumont, there is a rest area called James Taylor White Safety Rest Area. It is just about halfway between the two cities. This place is a very modern and clean place to stop & take a look. It also has a neat fenced in playground for the little ones to use up some energy. There are also paths for walks. Texas has the San Antonio Riverwalk, The Alamo, Amusement Parks, NASA Space Center, Zoos, Caverns, beaches, and a whole bunch more attractions! Be sure to stop in at the Welcome Centers and pick up brochures, or look online, or even go to a Travel Agency of some sort to help you find things to do while in Texas. The possibilities are endless!

Texas Safety Rest Area indeed.... aside from a general feeling of unease initially at seeing only one other vehicle - a semi way over there - but no actual people on the premises this was great!! and by great I mean kinda creepy, and by kinda I mean severely, like apocalyptic. but the lights are on the big open spaces outside and the play ground for the kiddies and all the green grass and picnic tables and what looks like a small pack of feral kittens getting ready to start something but there's nobody here... there's space inside too with an ersatz corral looking thing with signage and seating and stuff all around and on the other side of that at a desk near the windows there's a guy nominally keeping an eye on things as if there were things going on. rumor has it this is typical; a handful of cars stop here at night and not too many more during the daytime which would explain how this place is immaculate. nice, but still a little creepy...

The Fountain and small ponds are nice, although currently they are working on the ponds, but you can see promise of something good there. They do have a tourist and information center open between 0800 and 5pm. Plenty of open spaces to wander and marvel at the beauty of the landscaping and architecture. First time in years I could actually stop and check this amazing place out. It is definitely worth a stop.
