NOTE: I worked Exclusively with April Godales…read more To begin with, I looked for someone to help in dealing with my mom for months. Had hideous luck. Some made things sound too easy, brought New Age Ethics into a Alzheimers Dementia situation that really wasn't apropos, and there were others who were more interested in me having Power Of Atty or an updated Advanced Health Care Directive. I met with people that before they came to the house admitted they were at best semi-competent. I am an Only Child, have no family, friends or neighbors who can help in a hands on way. Before April, I was completely adrift. April Godales and my family always worked on a handshake deal. She visited the family home. The Nursing Facility my mom was at after her fall had given her multiple fractures, and even was there 12 hours before my mom got to the Assisted Living to make sure the bed arrived properly. IT wasn't only April that told me ins and outs of my mom's Medicare and Insurance situation, it was April who guided me through where to get my mom decent Furnishings. To wit, my mom began in a Respite Stay situation and when I realized my mom should simply be a Long-Term Resident with 6 days to get everything within the unit. April didn't blink an eye. She was around on weekends and available until 10pm most nights. April Godales is a A Level Sherpa. I honestly don't know where I--and much more importantly my Mother--would be without her. But here's the thing: I still had a physical and mental breakdown the day after my mom got to her destination and was safe & happy watching her favorite channels on her new Color TV. April was an unparalleled guide. But it has to be a family member making all the toughest decisions. The thing that was great about her was she laid everything out in an understandable way, and left the client to formulate the best decision for the elderly loved one. April knows this. The Case Managers and Insurance Specialists at facilities know this. But I am not sure that all the people who will contact Assisted Living Locators fully grasp where her job ends, and family's responsibilities now begin. She does a world class job as a professional. But the weight still has to fall upon family shoulders. You have to do your own heavy lifting for the family member you love. You cannot phone it in. That said, I looked for months and April & Assisted Living Locators were the only team at all worth their salt when the chips were down and the walls were closing in all around around me.

Assisted Living can't take people who are bed bound. So that leaves Board and Care facilities. There is 2 month minimum that start at $7,500 / month on Westside and $6500 in Valley - have to pay for 2 month minimum. (Private room) She then found me 3 B& C facilities that would take my 50 yo friend. Most places are for Seniors. I have forwarded the information to my friend. I really appreciate her taking the time to help me..

We decided she needed to move closer to me, and we recognized that we couldn't afford in-home care, so the search for an assisted living community began. Jason and two other placement specialists came highly recommended by Huntington Senior Care Network, but it quickly became clear that Jason's needs-first approach to placement and his impressive network of connections showed the most promise. He listened carefully to my mom's needs and found a place that balanced her considerable needs with more opportunities to socialize than your typical board and care. Within two week of my first call with Jason, my mom was preparing to move! Jason's support didn't stop there. He regularly checked in with me during the first few months of my mom's adjustment, advising me through the inevitable bumps that come with the transition to assisted living, validating my concerns, and guiding me to a place of candid conversation with my mom's new support team. We're nearly 3 months in now and my mom is thrilled with her care and her living arrangement. I can't thank Jason enough for the care, insight, and grace he so generously shared with us.

My mom, a fiercely independent woman all her life was recently diagnosed with dementia. Although…read moreshe had been exhibiting quirky signs for the past year or so, my family and I chalked it up to normal aging. In the past year her utilities and cable services were being turned off, but it wasn't until I received a call from apartment management that rent had not been paid that I suspected things were not as should be. Shortly after clearing up issue with rent we discovered mom was speaking with magazine issues as if real. I was completely clueless on steps needed to get help for my mom. I started googling agency's related to elder care and placement and contacted Connections Care Home Referral. I spoke with Jason Bloom who patiently listened to me and gave me the most important piece of information that helped me through this journey. Do you have a Power of attorney for mom? Obtaining that document opened the doors I needed to doctors, social worker, and banking. Once doctors became involved, tests were done and mom was officially diagnosed with progressive dementia. The doctors declared mom as not being competent to handle personal or financial affairs and I needed to find a suitable placement for her. Jason once again gave me the great advice on what type of placement mom, needed. I admit at first I was hesitant about a board/care facility I wanted mom to have a placement as close to living independently as possible, so I was leaning more towards Assisted Living facilities. I also was in process of learning about the disease and was ignorant of how much it robs you of the person you love. Jason was on point the progression of my mom's dementia was at stage where traditional Assisted Living would not have worked for her. Jason and I had many discussions over about a 60 day period, and he sent me lots of lists of possible placements and he always checked status of any contacts I may have made. As I went through this process I began to have a better idea of the type of home that I would want for mom. Jason said give him a couple of days to look for me. Within that timeframe Nina contacted me saying Jason referred her to me. After weeks of visiting different homes and facilities I knew within 15 minutes that her place was the board/care I was looking for. I can't express my gratitude to Jason and Connections Care Referrals for helping me through this process. He was able to take into account location and price points to find what my family and I would be comfortable with for mom.

After speaking with a few other agencies & a single terrible experience with a contract caregiver, I chose this company because I liked that their caregivers are employees. Care Manager Yeni Anaya worked with me to learn about my mom's personality, quirks, sensitivities, & needs. Based on what I told her, she recommended a caregiver named Geraldine Rios for my mom. Now, almost 2 years later & long past the healing of the wound that made me seek out a caregiver in the first place, I have kept Geraldine on a regular schedule. I am so grateful for Yeni's recommendation & for the many hours of patience & caring & listening that Geraldine has dedicated to make my mom's life more rich & balanced. My mom can be fun & incessantly talkative, or quiet & broody, or picky & cranky. She does not socialize with many people - she was accustomed to just being with my dad for a century, so she is a one-person person. Geraldine handles all her moods like a pro. Before Geraldine, my dad was the only one who could do that. Geraldine has encouraged my mom to join in on more activities offered at her assisted living facility than she ever has, so they have fun together & it makes my mom socialize more with other residents. She also learned & remembered my mom's little OCD preferences, her own quirky ways of doing many things, plus the things that triggered her, & the things that bring her joy - like planting flowers or repotting orchids to rebloom again. Geraldine has a regular weekly schedule, but has always been flexible to change or edit her hours if my mom needs to make a doctor's appointment at a different time, or decides she is too cranky & needs alone time, or wants to take a 2-hour shower during which she blabs to her & turns the water off every 15 minutes to conserve resources. I can always count on Geraldine to let me know if anything seems off with my mom, so she has given me so much peace of mind. When my mom is in a good mood, she laughs w/Geraldine & they have fun. When my mom is cranky, she will blame anything & everything on Geraldine. When my mom is needy, she will ask Geraldine to never leave her til she dies. I imagine this is similar to how my mom used to act with my dad before he passed away. I hope that your loved ones can be matched with someone like Geraldine too. A great caregiver will give you the peace of mind that you need, & your loved one a much better quality of life.

I'm not sure about some of these reviews-I've had the same experience as other one star commenters…read more No communication unless I follow up. Very difficult to get someone on the phone or a returned call. Hold Times over 30-40 minutes just to talk to someone. Unanswered voicemails. I've updated my availability hours to almost 'anytime' and they still haven't matched me with any caregivers for my disabled son. It's been 3 years of this. It started a little better back in the beginning of the process-we had a handful of different caregivers. All but one were really inexperienced or flaky-would cancel last minute or just not show. They sent me someone in their late 60's who was physically incapable of taking care of another person. She needed to sit the entire visit and got winded easily-so I couldn't leave and almost had to care take HER. I had one caregiver show up and tell me she was basically homeless and asked if we could help pay her under the table. That was during Covid-so didn't feel like it was safe having someone from a shelter exposing my immunocompromised child. We had one show up high-I didn't feel comfortable-so asked her to leave-after that we haven't been paired with anyone. It is very hard -according to the caregivers also- to get a hold of anyone at the company to sort of liaison. I found myself helping navigate some of the issues with the caregivers and their timesheets from my end since they also seemed to not know. Regional center has no other options so we are stuck on some long waiting list for some mediocre care-when and if it ever comes.

Great Office Site For Licensing Enforcement Trainings…read more SITREP It isn't often that we have an opportunity to conduct training for Community Car Licensing (CCL) at the Culver City Regional Office (CCRO) just above LAX, but in this instance, the office complex proved worthy for the job. THE SETUP Located on Bristol Parkway, CCRO has large conference room that is more than sufficient for 20 trainers & trainees to set up shop and conduct a series of training weeks. * Ample Tables, Chairs & Hard-Wired Connectivity - a set-up including these elements was more than sufficient to conduct our training in this Conference Room. * Location - when it comes to breaks and lunch options, there is an old school food truck that comes regularly - like clock work - the building at 9:15am, and is there however long until the lines disappear. There is also the Culver City Mall just on the OTHER side of the building down the hill, making it easy to grab coffees at Peets, Starbucks, etc., or go to the foodcourt that includes quick lunch options like Sbarro, Panda Express, Chilpolte, a Sushi spot, a Vietnamese spot, a Mongolian Grill, etc. etc., and many many other options. UPGRADE REQUEST My main request of this building management staff would be to put WiFi in on this floor, or at least in this conference room. When we train, we utilize our wifi enabled HP Tablet -Laptops, and it would make the training site-metrics so much safer and less cluttered if we don't have to use hard-wired routers, Cat 6 cables, duct tape, etc. etc. THE LOWDOWN A very good facility to conduct our trainings.
