What gets me through the beginning-of-the-week-blues is Candlelight Flow on Tuesday nights. That,…read moreand Happy Hour Flow on Friday evenings. Oh, and 8am Vinyasa Flow on Saturday mornings. The studio is on the second floor of this old brick building in the trendy part of downtown Haverhill, where parking is ample either on the street or in the back parking lot ($.50/hr during the weekday, free after 8pm and on weekends). There's a really cute lobby area where you can leave your stuff on the benches. There's also a small curtained-off changing area. This might be weird to say, but I was also impressed by how clean and tastefully decorated the bathrooms are. But of course, the most important room is the yoga room, in which the positive and relaxing energy is almost palpable. High ceilings, dark wooden exposed beams, mustard yellow walls, and tall windows that look out onto the Merrimack River. This room beats any dingy gym I have ever taken a yoga class in. There are a ton of classes to choose from throughout the week, and the business operations of this studio run as smooth as butter. Just reserve a spot for a class online and then show up. There are a bunch of different payment and class bundle options available too. The owner, Caroline Giles is so incredibly friendly and encouraging. I also love how there are different classes for all levels of fitness and experience. I just wish classes weren't so pricey, although I think the $10/class cost is pretty average for places around here. I got a LivingSocial deal for 30 classes for $30 and it was the best 3-month break from the gym I have ever taken.

Although moving to a new town is scary, finding a Yoga studio you love is even scarier. I found…read moreYoga Tree through an amazing LivingSocial deal so I figured I'd give it a try. Yoga Tree is wonderful. The studio is comfortable and friendly. They have a variety of classes and times to choose from and it is incredibly easy to sign up online. There are a ton of workshops (which I yet to attend but its nice to know they are available). The studio provides mats, blocks, blanks, bolsters to the participants during class if needed (free of charge). There is a ton of on street and also lot parking behind the studio. I'm happy to have a new yoga home.

Amy and all of her staff pay personal attention to everyone in the class. They offer modifications and adjustments while keeping the class moving. The gentle reformer stretch class is great. I highly recommend this Pilates studio over any of the others. Darlene

This gym is in an interesting location. Its in an office building and was much smaller than what I…read moreexpected. The walls are mostly brick with one wall of mirrors in the yoga room. It looks a little dingy. It didn't look as clean and serene as other yoga studios I'd been to. Aside from the appearance, the yoga class I took was more instructional and technical, whereas my home studio tends to be a bit more meditative and relaxing. The instructor walked us through every small detail of the movements we were doing, which I found helpful, as it took me back to the very basics of yoga. But there wasn't much done for the "yoga mood" like increasingly dim lights as we approached savansana or the use of a Tibetan singing bowl. I didn't feel as spiritually happy as I usually do when I leave yoga classes but this technical instruction was nice and the teacher was very friendly. EDIT: Took vinyasa flow with Sheila and pilates reformer with Alyssa and LOVED both. Both of these teachers are friendly and bubbly and know their stuff. Sheila's yoga class is just the kind I like. It challenged me with new poses I haven't done before and I felt sore the day after! I also had my heart rate up the whole class thanks to her awesome routine! Alyssa's class was a work out!! Works your muscles tons and stretches you so well! It was my first time using a reformer and tower and it was awesome! Bumped it up from 3 stars to 5!
