Two male pastors threatened to use "church discipline" against me if I continued to date a non Christian, meaning I could not go to service, could not volunteer anywhere within the church, and could not go to my small group to study the Bible. The disgusting part, even predatory, was when the pastor said to me "I know you don't have much family left, and now you won't have your church family either". How disgusting to manipulate someone and coerce them to agree to any terms just to keep their friends, that is pretty low. read more

Newly retired and relocated to Reno, and I attended the 9am Living Stones service for my first visit last Sunday. I was welcomed at the front door by 2 ladies who immediately made me feel welcomed, and explained the church layout. Again I was warmly greeted walking into the sanctuary, as well as by the FOH (front of house) sound man and others in the aisle. The worship team music, led by JT, was anointed, joyful, and from the heart. Lay pastor Bruce delivered an excellent and passionate sermon through a challenging portion of the final book of Revelation. Senior Pastor Craig greeted me a second time as I was leaving, and was kind enough to speak briefly to again welcome me and personally invite me back. Lord willing, my new church home! read more

We were visiting from Florida and brought our daughter who is in her mid forties and lives here in the north valley. The welcoming committee was really good, friendly but not clingy. We really enjoyed the way the pastor described each part of the service and what it is spiritually intended for. The pastor was Kyle from the main church campus and he spoke a WONDERFUL sermon. Very meaningful, compelling, interesting, convicting and practical - straight from God's Word. We also liked the way the speakers addressed those who were new and maybe not Christians yet, so that it didn't appear like you were crashing someone else's party. I joined a Bible study here and I was loving it and so excited to find like minded friends. But it ended up so disappointing. They excused a member of the group for being a member of a community that "the church doesn't support" so disappointed because that member was respectful and was seeking their faith for guidance for reasons beyond. The members said they discussed their decision with members of the church. So sad. read more

There is a reason why you are looking at a churches review. Why living stones? I felt comfortable right of the bat. I didn't feel judged that I didn't know the Bible front to back. They had technology all around the room that allowed me to follow along. The community at church are a collection of different people from different background, but I quickly found friends that I was delighted to see every Sunday and even outside of the church. I think the most important thing in finding a good church it's finding a congregation that shows true belief through their actions, and finding a pastor who is truly passionate about what he preaches. Living Stones downtown Reno combines both of these together into a very emotional and moving service. I love that when I walked in last night for the 6 p.m. service, I was instantly greeted by Usher's who make you feel right at home. In addition, the worship music is very easy to follow and so are the other parts of the service. Pastor Harvey was on-site to preach for the evening, and you could see that as he spoke, he was moved to tears by the thought behind his message. It's not often that you see a pastor moved to tears, so it's a very moving thing to see. After the service, I was able to go to the front counter and get signed up for a community bible study group, the leader of which contacted me today to welcome me. Overall, the service was great, the worship music was great, and the message was impactful. I can't wait to go to the community group and see the great things going on there. I've been going to Living Stones off and on since 2007. They are always so welcoming and hospitable. All the pastors are willing to talk to you about problems, comments and concerns you may have. Their latest remodel is amazing. It's so cool to see a congregation come together to make it happen. They're a non-denominational church that preaches and loves Jesus. Their goal is to make outsiders insiders and be in the city for the city. Such a great morale. read more

My brother first brought me to this church back in February of 2010. It has changed quite a bit and grown drastically, in a good way. It seems as though there have been many new pastors added to the team throughout the years, but the music and the band have remained awesome! Most of the other churches in Reno don't make me feel the way Living Stones does. It's extremely comfortable and not too intimidating because I mostly attend by myself. You can keep to yourself if you go alone or you can mingle with strangers and make new friends. I like to describe this church to others as inviting and non-judgmental. They offer great, thorough advice each time; it's almost like a life lesson/class rather than a scripted service that seems rushed. This is in comparison to other churches around town - I won't mention names. Sometimes the sermon touches my heart so deep, it brings subtle tears to my eyes, especially with the way Pastor Harvey preaches (around the holidays). The music is very powerful and every song grows on you with time. They repeat a lot of the same songs from week to week but that's okay with me because then I can sing along. It's such a blessing to have a great congregation like Living Stones in our little city. I truly recommend attending any of the services they offer on a Sunday at 9am, 11am, or 6pm! read more

I have always said, "Everything I learned about marketing, I learned from the church." And Living Stones does not disappoint when it comes to graphics, video, sound and lighting. Even their customer service, trinkets, and coffee are cause to take note for any entrepreneur or marketer. What makes a church so good at marketing?? Think about it--they use almost a 100% volunteer staff to sell a product that cannot be seen, touched or heard for the low low price of 10% of your total income. I mean--they know what they are doing!! Now, with all good marketing comes the message--and this is where they are weak (lost a star!!). Many of the sermons come pre-packaged from someone living in a castle on a hill. The sermons are passed down via video. That's not every Sunday--but if you attend on an unlucky video sermon day, clear out to the Kid's section to learn about a gruesome crucifixion. It's not so tragic when it comes in a paint by number format. DO NOT HIDE in the large tank toward the front--unless you are a mermaid. A special kind of waterboarding-meets-wet-tshirt-contest will happen there toward the end of the service. It is epic. And yes, it is for real. Dunking for Jesus carnival games every Sunday!! Probably my favorite part of LS is the small group social club. This is a great way to explore the deeper side of you--are you gay? Bi? An addict? Want to experiment with playing the martyr? You can! Confess your inner secrets and thoughts to get lashed and judged! It may take multiple meetings to build up your pain tolerance, but once you get there--ecstasy with every holy prayer. Really, this is a great place to let loose in Midtown. Just relax, be the sinless version of you and when you're faced with a moral dilemma remember WWJoD (what would Joel Olsteen do)? PRO TIP: Moshing is allowed, but not with anyone of the same gender. Unless you're both married. To somebody else. And you're not having an affair. And you're not making anyone have sexual thoughts. I had such a blessed time at this church, I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a Christian church. I was just visiting Reno and wanted to go to church before leaving and this place was very friendly and welcoming, it was packed, but it's a really good refresher to see all the brothers and sisters I'm Christ and how much He is working with his people. The message was great and was very uplifting and studies straight from the bible. Worship was awesome and I've been on a worship team myself and they were great, loved worshipping with this church! Wow!! Just simply wow!! I have a very bad accident a few years ago and spent a couple months in a coma I died a couple times and got to meet God someone that I thought never existed. But I now know he leads me through life and he led me to this beautiful building, how do I know he led me there? First I couldn't find anywhere to park and then I was running late and then I spilled my drink and then I was about to go home when a car pulled out right in front of me and I had to stop so I didn't hit him and then his parking spot was open? So I pulled in and parked. By the way if you go here you can park in the parking garage next door and they have a thing to validate your parking ticket. I just wasn't going to pay to park hahaha anyway, because they are right downtown and their doors are open to everyone during the service a woman's woke up and started to say everything she found to be wrong with the church using less than perfect language. When I was in my coma as I woke up there were a lot of dirty greasy animals around me they were saying bad things and my angel told me it was just the bad spirits leaving me. So God put me in an incredible little church and delivered a wonderful message and just showed me that he's there when I need him and then reminded me I've when he let me live and I woke up from my coma! The pastor is very approachable the young lady that sings has an incredible voice the band is good it is just a really nice place to go and spend some time with God and just rest he stress and breathe and be held by God read more

This is an AWESOME place to go to learn about God. They preach "the word" without trying to trap you in guilt or in sketchy wealth schemes. It is the bare bones truth of the bible with the law and the gospel, and it is so refreshing. I have learned so much here in the past year and look forward to church every Sunday. The music is also unique and wonderful... which is a bonus! I love living stones. My husband and I just moved from Texas and were looking around for a church here in Reno. Every where we went seemed very un inviting or were the type of church to be all warm and fuzzy (not speaking the gospel!) finally we ended up at living stones, and have been happy ever since! Music is amazing and doesn't sound like just a bunch of people getting up there with no direction. They sound professional which honestly really helps me in worship. All the pastors speak truth, and sometimes even remind me of southern style of preaching. That's a good thing in my book. Not only is the general church awesome, I love that they have four different services and different locations, but essentially you get the same message. I have met some really awesome friends here because they promote community. I truly recommend this church for anyone! read more

These guys are dead on. They are not a warm and fuzzy give us your money and God will bless you kind of church. They preach the true Word. They preach Jesus. They preach that you are only saved by God's Grace and not by your own works. They preach that sin is wrong and all need to repent and turn to Jesus and only Jesus. I have sat on this review for several years and have only recently decided to post it. If I can save another person from the experiences I have had here, I want to. Many people turn to church when they are seeking or vulnerable; young people, in particular, seek at Living Stones. Because Living Stones is a very young church with young leadership, I excused their behaviors in the past. I chose not to be a member after attending a few services where things were said that unsettled me. They advertised themselves as a "church without religion," espoused drinking and swearing, and belittled non-Christians ("does anyone here know any non-Christians doing good in the world?" - and the pastor asked members to raise their hands if they knew any non-Christians volunteering, etc. - and everyone just laughed) and belittled other denominations (Baptists just "show up to get their bus ticket to heaven"). I was a new Christian at the time and very offended as I had spent years working as a non-Christian doing nonprofit work - also because I had known many Christians over the years who did not live up to this standard of good. Needless to say, I didn't go back for years. I found a small church with a loving, educated pastor who had a heart for worship and evangelism. The demographic was mostly elderly and there were no community groups so, eventually, needing community, I reached back out to Living Stones small groups. Even though statements were made in sermon that I disagreed with, I didn't condemn the whole church body or assume that it was a faithless gathering. I continued to attend Sunday sermons at my smaller church, but I found a women's group at LS and attended for over a year. One day, the small group leader wasn't present, there was a visitor from another church, and the printed study material stated, "God is the author of sin." I asked for clarification, assuming that what was meant was that God was the author of free will and sin is a result of free will. We discussed it and it was repeated that what was stated was what was meant. The visitor abruptly stood and left. I, too, felt that what was taught was blasphemous, but I cared about my group and, again, attributed it to miscommunication, misunderstanding, and the age of the church and leadership, but I said nothing. The next week, I was asked to quit attending my primary church or not come back to small group. I was told it wasn't biblical to attend sermon at one church and small group at another. I argued that we are all one body under Christ, but I was told to make a decision. I couldn't condone staying under those circumstances, and it hurt, but I left. I never heard from any friend in small group again. Fast forward a couple years, I decided to reach out to the (co)leader who taught group that night and who issued the ultimatum. I told her I still disagreed with the decision and was still very hurt but still cared very much for her and others and had become very isolated and needed community. I had met someone who wasn't a Christian and wanted prayer and support for a safe relationship. The leader cried and said they had just "gotten my soul back" and "now this." Meanwhile, the new co-leader of the group was living with the young man I had asked for prayer in dating. And she was smoking weed and sleeping with her boyfriend, who was also a church member. I said nothing but I left - this time completely disillusioned. I walked away from church altogether for years, for good maybe, because I still haven't been back. I am still a Christian, although.. a very broken one. A couple months ago, I finally reached out to another large church locally to inquire about small groups. They didn't respond. I work long hours at a hospital so my options are somewhat limited. I need a large church with a variety of meeting times and small community groups. Again, hesitantly, I looked at Living Stones. I saw there was a small group a couple blocks away from me on one of my days off. I really thought long about it, but again, I chose to forgive. I reached out to the leader of the small group and haven't heard back in over a month. And I am done. I hope that no one has an experience here or anywhere like I have had, and I recommend seekers and young believers find a more mature church, even at the expense of community. Ok, thought to give it another try. BIG MISTAKE. The whole time they talked about not giving enough. Tithing! The pastor said we Gould give 60 a week...REALLY? He said his sixteen year old gave 50 a week SO THERE WAS NO EXCUSE WE SHOULDN't. Stay far away. Stop paying the overpaid pastors. Last time I checked, God created the heavens and earth.
