My Journey to Finding a Church Home I started going to Rock Church last Christmas, and it all began with the Ugly Sweater service. That one experience told me everything I needed to know--this was the church for me. Their "come as you are" and "all are welcome" message isn't just something they say--it's something they live. Let me start by saying I'm 62 years old. I've always considered myself spiritual, but not necessarily religious. Maybe it has something to do with the 12 years I spent in Catholic school. Faith has always been important to me, but I never quite found a church community that felt like home--until now. A few things immediately put me at ease and made me realize this was the church family I'd been searching for. Pastor Rebecca shared openly about her struggles with faith--how she questioned it many times over the years. That honesty made me feel seen and reminded me it's okay to wrestle with doubt. In later services, she continued to speak vulnerably about her faith, her family, and even her own challenges. She's real, and that means everything. Every time Pastor Rebecca speaks, I feel like I'm learning something. She breaks things down in a way that's approachable--combining scripture, educational insight, humor, and vulnerability. She doesn't preach at us--she invites us into the message. Pastor Connie is the real deal too. She's not overly polished or rehearsed, and her messages always give me something to reflect on. She shares from her own life experiences, which makes her so approachable and genuine. She's encouraged us to listen for God, to be patient, to trust that prayers will be answered in His time. Most of all, she reminds us that God is in our corner--not judging us, but loving us and lifting us up. She's also spoken about the fears we all carry--not just for ourselves, but for the marginalized and vulnerable in today's world. She doesn't shy away from tough topics but meets them with compassion and truth. There was a time when I walked out of a Christmas service at another church feeling completely discouraged. The head pastor told the congregation that some of us weren't going to make it--and I left that day wondering if I'd ever find a church that inspired me to do good, to be good, and to believe that God truly wants us to succeed. A place where Jesus is more than a symbol--He's a friend, a brother, an example to live by. And I'm happy to say I've finally found that place. Rock Church has become the spiritual home I didn't even realize I was searching for. I'll be honest--they encourage us to participate and get involved, and I haven't quite stepped into that yet. For now, I've been watching from afar, soaking it all in. But something in me knows... I won't be sitting on the sidelines forever. And I haven't even mentioned the worship team--amazing! The music is so moving, and sometimes Pastor Connie or Pastor Rebecca are right up there, singing or playing guitar. It's not a performance--it's worship. I can truly feel the Holy Spirit through the songs, and there have been moments when I've been brought to tears. So, if you're someone still searching for a place where you're accepted as you are... a place that feeds both your heart and your mind... a place where faith is real, honest, and alive--this might be that place for you too. read more

I went to this church years ago , at first I loved it , I loved the music, I loved the vibe all around , I felt at home, I even got baptized here , I was proud , I even used the day care here and tithed often . I tried to be of service too but didn't end up getting a job there . I ran into hardship eventually and we ended up not pre paying for day care at some point and was told we needed to leave work and come get the children. I believe we were 50 bucks behind . This is when the church went completely sideways, I would get calls almost daily asking for the 50 dollars , I had pulled the kids out of day care completely and found other means , at the time we started even using the food pantry because we were struggling so bad , Andy was head of music , he would give me a reminder every Sunday of what I owed too , even when I showed up to pick up food from the food pantry, I can't remember if it was Andy's wife , I think it was , I'm not certain but a lady literally made us feel so terrible for being so broke , I have never had a church make me feel so ashamed for not paying them money ( 50 bucks sadly ). I even asked if they could just help me with it or hold off until I get back on track . But they never let me live it down . It seems so petty . I know, it's been over 6 yrs now and I'm doin really great today , thank the good lord and I'm currently looking for a church again , I have not been back to a church since then . I really wanted to share this experience because it truly hurt my heart . I hope they are not this way still but it really felt like they all were clicked up with each other and had no problem shaming you tell you leave . They continued calling for a good long time too . The Rock Church is not based on the principles of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They are cliquish and bitters and lack the love that Christ displaced during His journey here on earth. They have also put people out of the church instead of mentorship and accountability. I've attended this church and was very disappointed.This church doesn't teach the rightly divided Word of God. They barely teach any of the Word. It's all geared to tell you what you want to hear--not what you need to hear. It's more about relationships with others, not building your relationship with God. They baptize with water. People who have really, truly studied the Word know that you don't need water to be born again and receive the Holy Spirit. Read Romans 10: 9-10. They also teach that Jesus Christ is God. How stupid, ridiculous, and absurd. God didn't die on the cross--His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ did. Do you really think that if God died, that the devil would allow him to be raised from the dead? God dying on the cross contradicts the Word because He has no beginning and no end. Alpha and Omega. It's impossible for God to die. Jesus Christ IS NOT GOD!!!! Also, Jesus Christ didn't utter," My God, my God, Why hast thou forsaken me?" Correctly translated, he uttered My God, my God, for this was I spared or for this is my destiny. Study the Hebrew and Aramaic. And another thing, you can't get 3 days and 3 nights from Good Friday to Sunday morning. Christ died Wednesday after sunset. That's when the new day begins in that culture and part of the world, so that would be Thursday. He arose sometime after sunset on Saturday. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are the correct 3 days. When Mary and Martha went to the sepulcher on Sunday morning, He had already risen, as I said, sometime after sunset on Saturday. People use your heads! Study the Word of God for yourselves, make it yours. God wants a personal relationship with you. He's not some distant, unhearing, uncaring, unreachable God. He's closer than your very breath. read more

OK I use Yelp extensively to find a good cheeseburger to find a good body shop ... seeing I was out of town on vacation why not use it to find a church? My wife and I are somewhat out of the box eccentric people so I thought this church might prove adequate for a Sunday morning visitation I checked the other reviews and there were no flags like snake handling or our pastor-prophet so my wife and I decided to visit. I will now use a set of overly important sounding anachronisms to describe our visit. GIF- Greeters in front .. people seemed friendly without being over friendly (you know the pea pod people Christians) CIL- Cafe in lobby.... warning warning I had heard about these mega churches with cafes ...my antenna were up but I proceeded into the sanctuary anyway. See my preconceived thoughts about the sermon below. PSW- Pre sermon worship.. The worship team was more like a Reno show production compete with multi screen video presentations. Not my cup of tea but the parishioners seemed to enjoy it. On a positive note the worship team did not feel the need to sing the same praise chorus over 500 times emulating a scratched vinyl record. APA- Assistant pastor announcements , OK the assistant pastor seemed like a nice guy ( I think that is an official job requirement at all churches) Now this church has a come as you are very relaxed dress policy. I came in my tee shirt and jeans but you see this assistant pastor had his shirt tail hanging out... Yes the official pastoral authority figure had his shirt tail hanging out and like a good Pharisee I was bothered by this. I was prepared for a Joel Olstein/Carl Sagan sermon on the rings of Saturn in relation to the good Samaritan LOS- Length of sermon... To my surprise the pastor gave a very good Biblically based three point sermon. My attention span to a sermon is directly related to the comfort of my butt in the church seat. The pastor gave his message short and simple without multiple reiterations to make sure I got it at least by the third reiteration. EOS- End of sermon I was actually dreading the worship team coming up for what I was sure was going to be another 3 or 4 number set. To my surprise the pastor dismissed the congregation without another musical number. In finality if you are in Reno/Sparks and looking for a church give it a try... If you are visiting out of town I would definitely recommend visiting here. read more

The rock church leadership destroys homes and families if you allow them. Everyone has issues, made mistakes, and don't deserve for those things to be shared by the so called leadership to the entire church. It's really bad when you are in the store an are questioned about a situation art and the leadership has shared with the church. My family and I will continue to hold our heads high, and pray that you see the light in the lions den. Moreover, realize the word of God is not being taught; Its arts way or the highway. Galatians 6:1-2 1 "Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. I have been searching for a church for over three years. I found it... Pastor Bruce is a very different pastor. His approach is to apply the bible to today, to our lives today. All the people I have met here are warm and welcoming. And the music is awsome too. I was raised Catholic. And we never sang. So, if I tell you it's good music, believe me. If you have been searching, try The Rock. Oh! a PS... I hardly ever give anyone a 5 star review. So, don't read into the 4 stars. Just believe me... give this church a try. read more

my husband and I attended the rock for almost two years and were saddened by the lack of Godlliness displayed on a daily basis from the pastor, his wife and the leadership of the church. God didn't seem to be apart of their discussions in anyway...it was very sad to see a "church" sink to the level of treating members of their church like employees and not simply seeking to help them grow in God. watching the pastor week after week Not use his bible to preach was sad. the actions his wife and him display no Godly love. when we went to them in need the only thing we received was snotty looks and finding out a few weeks later they had spread our private conversation with them around the entire church! We have started a search for a Godly home and have found many healthy churches where we were welcomed with open arms and found fabulous preaching from the bible! read more

I was looking for a church. Instead, I found a spiritual home. Let me preface this by saying that I wasn't brought up in the church. I came to the spiritual game sort of late and I had been struggling for years to find a church that I truly could grow and feel at home in. I found it at The Rock. And I've never looked back... Pastor Art is a great teacher who brings Bible-based truth every week consistently and the congregation is probably one of the most welcoming that I've ever been part of... it's an environment that fosters fellowship and encourages us to take an active role in the Kingdom. It's understandable that the format might not be for everyone, but honestly, I've never been in a church where I feel the power of the Spirit so clearly. read more

We really like this church! Our family isn't very religious but we have a strong personal faith that has carried us through some rough times. We have 3 kids that really enjoy attending kids ministry programs; so despite our aversion to organized religion we usually try to find a church we enjoy. We have tried several well-rated churches in the area and this one is everyone's favorite so far. My kiddos attend the preschool, elementary and middle school programs. She wishes the middle school program had more events. I really appreciate their free coffee! Their open acceptance policy for everyone regardless of who they are is refreshing. My favorite aspect of this church is their teaching pastor, who is a woman and mother and has a very intuitive and relative point of view. Being raised in church all my life I had taken an extended absence from it for many years. I know growing up I thought church was boring and VERY long. When we moved close to this church I was excited to give it a try. It is about as different from my hometown church as you can get. It's a come as you are type place. They play progressive music and when the paster preaches it does not feel like he is preaching. It's not a long service and that I like. I don't want going to church to feel like a chore. I call The Rock home, because that is what it is. I have been to many churches of many denominations and never felt the warmth and welcome and acceptance I have found here. When they say "come as you are", they mean more than your wardrobe choice... all people, all different walks of life in one place to do one thing... to advance in their spiritual journey. I have been walking with the Lord for 45 years. I was not raised in a christian home but I found the Lord when I was 18. I just moved here from Southern California were I was apart of many on fire churches. I attended The Rock yesterday and immediately felt like I found my home. I once went to this church when I was in middle school and my friends mother took us there. As we attended I felt the Holy Spirit within those walls of worship. I looked to my friends mother she was in tears I asked, "Why do you have tears?" She replied, "because there's something about this place that just fills you with love." Years later I been going through the hardest change in my life. My family is torn apart from loving me and my old family church no longer welcomes me. Even though this I pray for the best for that old church and I forgive my parents & siblings for there unfriendly words. You see I'm transgender even though I'm usually hated by many for being myself. I new I'm still loved by Jesus and have a bigger family that loves me. So I found myself at The Rock Church again years later being a adult, they welcome me even when no one else would! Going back thinking about what my friends mother said, "because there's something about this place that just fills you with love." I felt loved even when I'm different and welcomed. The sermons are truly wonderful to learn and to bring home with. I love being myself and christen I feel like I took a leap of faith and landed in love. I think about my old church and simply pray for the best for them. My family even though it's really hard emotionally I still love them and pray for them. I found a place of worship that is truly filled with love of Jesus Christ and now I'm the one in tears saying, "because there's something about this place that just fills you with love." I can't wait to attend more because they have found the unconnected me and brought me deeper into loving Jesus. I feel connected at the Rock Church and pray for wonderful things for this house of worship to reach more unconnected! Great christmas tradition to come to the pops concert. The staff is so friendly and the concert itself is always fantastic. It always is in mid december, look up the rock church calender of events, it is a must see and must do. The best thing is it is free. I am an every other kinda week attendee at The Rock. Been here for over 4 years and enjoyed most everything about it. Loved when Brett, Art and Chad would teach on Sunday's. Different styles of teaching is what I enjoyed most. On weeks we have my step daughter, she attends as well. Sadly, Art has retired but good for him! Right? His replacement Meredith leaves much to be desired. Personally I do not sense a genuine warmth with her. Also, my stepdaughter is in her daughters class on occasion and upon pick up has revealed some uncomfortable interactions with her (Merediths) daughter. Truthfully I chalked it up to the ages - UNTIL I saw this kid in action. I saw her being incredibly unkind to another child and the teachers just let it happen - I mean I get it, she's the pastors kid so what are you going to do? The irony is this pastor Meredith offers parenting classes. I guess it takes all kinds. The new team has completely stripped the interior of the church of all decoration and the walls are bare and unwelcoming. It's weird. Also, the worship leader, Andy, is now considered the head pastor?? I asked where his pastoral training and education was at, and I was told by the person "I really have no idea, I think his background is in finances with selling cars." WHAT?! I'm not sure what direction The Rock is taking but they absolutely took a wrong turn. For myself personally, I want to know that my pastors are educated in this area. While Meredith does have the education she lacks a genuineness that is a must in ministry. I understand change is a definite in life but the change I'm experiencing here is not positive - at least not for me. After 4 years I have made the tough decision to try a couple of other churches to find my new "home." read more

They are very clear that everyone is welcome there and judgement and shaming is not welcome. They truly believe in meeting you where you are, not where they want you to be. The Sunday teachers are great and licensed. They have clearly been trained in positive behavioral supports. They work very well with special needs children (especially mine) and never show any judgmental attitude towards anyone. They truly practice what they preach here and that is to love one another unconditionally. I feel very safe and supported here. read more

This church immediately made us feel at home. The entire staff is so warm and caring. My kids love their classrooms and our son is starting Preschool here soon. They're been so welcoming, and Pastor Art is great. We drive 30 minutes each way and look forward to it all week long! We've definitely found our new home. read more

I went to a nondenominational Church when I was young. I stopped going to Church when I was a teenager because I felt that people like me were not welcome in Church. I came out in my teens as a lesbian. I found the Rock on Mother's Day 2014 and have never felt more welcome at a Church. Pastor Art keeps it real. Whenever I bring my kids, they are always well taken care of, and they are excited to tell me what they've learned :) The music is the best I've heard at any church in the area! So today was my first time going to the rock and pebble church because I first thought it was affiliates to the rock church in san Diego but it isn't. This church kinda have the same vibe I just wasn't feeling the music or word of the day. It was more music than preaching. Other than that everyone was nice and friendly, just wished it was more diverse. Going to give this another try next week. read more

Welcoming Our daughter started attending Pebbles Preschool at the Rock Church. This opened the door for us to have the courage to try the services here. The Rock is a small, welcoming and inspiring church. We LOVE the music team who lead us in contemporary worship. Pastor Art always has a message that is relevant to our daily lives. I also started attending the WE:Women Engaging group. This is a wonderful group of women who gather once a month to discuss our faith and support each other in our journeys. My husband and I are also taking the Financial Peace University class to help us be smart with our money--which strengthens our marriage bond (no more arguing about money)! I highly recommend this church to anyone who may feel intimidated about attending church. You will feel welcomed and inspired! read more
