I had heard of this place from my cousin and I like that they make treatment accessible with their sliding payment scale ($20-$40). You pay what you can afford. Your first appointment includes $15 for the initial consultation. I paid $55 total with my HSA for my first treatment with the consult. The environment is very soothing. There are several recliners available and my seat was cozy and comfortable. Don't be scared off by the community setting--the room was fairly full during my appointment but it was quiet and everyone was relaxing in their own space. After relaxing in the recliner for about 45 minutes, the needles were removed. The application and removal was pretty painless, save for one or two slight pinches. The best part is that my back felt so much better after! It's recommended that you go for more than one treatment and I definitely will, but I was pleased by the difference I felt after just one session.

It's a great way to let go of life's normal stresses and meditate or try to rest your thoughts during your visit. I first tried out acupuncture after hearing from a friend that it helped her so much with stress reduction and relaxation. I thought hey, might as well try it out. I started back in October and have been going on the regular ever since. Heather is the owner and acupuncturist. I love her - she's friendly and sweet, makes you feel comfortable, and knows her stuff when it comes to any question you might have about your body and if acupuncture can help (it usually can). I always feel wonderful after my treatments and my knee pain is virtually gone now. Many health insurance plans allow for half price treatments for a certain number of visits, which makes it much more cost effective. Heather can answer those questions too. Also, the rooms are cozy and warm. You have the option to listen to soothing music, which I prefer to drown out other sounds and it's good white noise. She often has an additional heat lamp going. I believe it helps to accelerate the release of heat from whatever area is causing you trouble (in my case my knee). For those of you fearing needles, these are nothing. They are about the thickness of a strand of hair so you barely feel anything. What you will feel is relaxed and relieved of pain afterward. When I have a tricky spot that's been problematic, it will feel tingly as the needles unblock the acupuncture point. Trust me on this, it's amazing. I highly recommend it!

I really appreciate the Chinese massage that accompanies the acupuncture. When I leave I feel nice and relaxed and pain free. They do accept some insurances, so take advantage of that if you can. It has made the decision for me so much easier! Their location is also perfect for me - right off 104 in Webster. I usually make my appointments in the evening and can go after work on my way hope. Super convenient. Initially I was wary of acupuncture, but then you experience things in life that make you open up to something different. Then, a professor referred me to Dr. Zhao and her sister who together got me healing. Later, on crutches for months, I was treated by them with immediate results. I'd go across country for treatment by either sister. Some office visits required more time and more approaches, but the visit cost the same regardless and was reasonable for me, a grad' student. Their philosophy of healing, their approach with patience and dignity, is healing in itself. Lighter story: Once, they gave me herbs to soak and drink for a nasty cold. If you are reading this....you might be in pain, frustrated, weak....wondering why you are "stuck." If you want to try accupuncture, you need to know that Dr. Zhao was a top medical doctor in China and has over 20 years experience here, even teaching at a nearby chiropractic school. I would really recommend a real Chinese person, especially a doctor for this type of medicine....she can give you so much background that westerners cannot. This is not western medicine, this is a different culture/philosophy, so please acknowledge that. She works by herself and does everything herself; she has no receptionist to answer calls or do paperwork (this lowers the office rates). So chances are when you call her, she is currently working. It is easier to ask your questions and understand the treatments either by going to her website or stopping in, if you can, to ask her. She has a strong Chinese accent and it may be harder to understand over the phone. The best part is, when you come to her, you have her all to yourself for at least an hour, usually $65.00. Insurance doesn't usually cover accupuncture....but think of it, an hour for consultation and treatment....so thorough. You can talk to her about anything you want, she has so much experience, so many suggestions and will customize the treatments to YOU. She also can provide herbs and supplements fairly inexpensively. She is one of my favorite practitioners of all time. She is super patient, knowledgeable and very supportive. You may or may not "feel" immediate results after your first visit: please don't give up. This is a process that involves much more than just showing up and getting needles....it is a whole philosophy (including nutrition, sleep, relaxation, allergies, etc) to help your healing journey.
