Love to support Black owned businesses, especially bookstores. Liz's got a pretty good selection of books and drink options. I recommend arriving early as the place does get packed. It's not loud like other book bars in Manhattan but it could get hard to find seating. The staff seem pretty friendly. However, the owner seems to be standoffish. Even when complimenting her business, she acted a bit "uppity" to me. Look, maybe it was an off day for her, but you're supposed to represent your business and that's not a good look. Yikes... Beautiful, spacious book store where people are still allowed to hang out for long periods reading or working on laptops. The interior is warm and inviting. There is a wide selection of books by Black authors and Queer authors. They have a wheelchair ramp and were very kind about using it. read more

I am relishing on the fact that I'm living in the erw where bookstores have made a comeback and this time we have them as a bar/coffee shop hybrid or at least through Liz's Book Bar. I attended this week a book club event there to discuss the novel, The Bluest Eye, with a woman-owned organization called Lit Club. As soon as I entered this place, I felt like I was in a Hallmark movie. I was cheerfully greeted by the barista/bartender and told to sit anywhere I'd like while waiting down the event to start. The front had the bar are and the back was where all the books were located. They had a great selection of wines, cocktails and beers. I decided to go with a glass of Hibiscus champagne. I went back to the bar for a caramel honey espresso towards the end of the event but they had turned off the espresso machine already because they were closing in 40 minutes. They also had ran out of pastries by that time. Surprisingly, it wasn't too loud with other patrons who were there hanging out while we had our book club session in the back. It definitely is a great venue for book events since the chairs were comfortable and it sets a vibe that makes you want to to explore the book world. I happened to walk in since it was right next to the Carroll Street train station. There is a good amount of seating, and while the bar was packed, it did not feel overwhelming in the slightest. I know a few book bars in the city that can be super packed and loud, which can be off-putting. The ambience at Liz's book bar was soothing and relaxing. I loved the playlist. I liked the crowd. And did I mention, the book selection at this shop is wonderful! They have a little bit of everything - romance novels, fantasy, manga, non-fiction, and autobiographies- what more can a book lover ask for? I look forward to my next visit. read more

I finally stopped by Liz's Book Bar to relax a bit and read after my pilates class. It wasn't too crowded with most people seated at the bar. I was able to grab a seat on a small, comfortable couch in the back and read my book in peace after ordering a lemonade. There's a pretty decent selection of books to browse and purchase. My friend lives near by and has talked about this place for a while so we met up here on a weekend. The bookstore and cafe are not so large but there are a few seats and bar seats. There is a decent book selection as well. We ordered two drinks and a cheese plate plus chips. After we ordered, the person who took our order disappeared. After 10-15 minutes, our drinks had not been called so I asked a different cashier about it. They had no idea what our order was but said they would make it. I had to reiterate the whole drink order to them. I am confused why there wasn't a print out of our order left on the counter for the baristas. I tried to ask about the cheese plate but this other cashier was dismissive. 5 min later our original cashier came out with the cheese plate. I think they had been preparing it in the back. When I ordered, no one explained how the drinks or food would be served, so it was confusing. No one also gave us a heads up that they were making the cheese plate in the back and it would take a few. After the cashier dropped off the cheese plate, they then came back to drop off the chips we ordered without a word. Overall, the customer service here was dismissive and unfriendly. I felt like I was bothering the staff here just by simply trying to get my order. The cheese plate was very good, as were the drinks and overall, this place was nice so I will give 4 stars. However, communication with customers needs to be improved as well as staff attitude. read more

I love this new trend of bookstore bars and this spot will now be added to my list of favorite ones. There is ample seating, good wine, and a great book selection. What more could a book lover ask for? I didn't get a chance to try any food because they were out of most things on the menu but I look forward to visiting again and grabbing a snack. I've stopped in here twice so far: once just to check it out/do some book browsing, and then a second time to have something to drink at the bar, and also do some book browsing/found something to buy. I will definitely update later on when I've tried more drinks, etc., but my initial impression is: I love this place!!!! The staff that I've met here (two different people so far) seem really nice, cool, and friendly. I had a really good matcha lemonade and enjoyed sitting at the bar. The book selection is really good. This is not a huge storefront (but it's big enough, and they have a good amount of seating) but considering that I think they have an impressive selection. I saw that they have a selection of classics as well as a lot of contemporary fiction. I also saw some interesting-looking memoirs. They have plenty of other books too--cooking, history, humor, body-mind-spirit, etc.--and I see from their website that you can search for books and order through the site too. I look forward to coming back in more often and I'd also like to explore their in-store events, book club, etc., when I get the opportunity to do so. I hope this business will do great!!!! There aren't a lot of combined bookstore/cafe/bar spaces in this part of Brooklyn and it's definitely something I've been wanting to see. read more

I don't remember how I learned about this book bar but I faintly remember the owner getting interviewed or mentioned on Instagram and I decided to visit in the future. After a busy day, I was finally able to go. On first inspection, I can see the place is well loved by locals and new people alike because while it wasn't packed it was lively on a Thursday evening. There is different types of seating including along the bar, near the front window, a nook with cushion and a few in the back. I did bar side and it has hooks underneath to hang bags. It serves as a cafe mostly so there is a limited food menu with a more extensive drink list for the morning, noon, and night. The menu is on the wall but they also have paper copies. I had a non alcoholic spritz which was decent. They do have wifi available so you can theoretically work there however, from my perusal they have limited outlets and they have a rule about no laptops after 6 pm (they have a sign near the register but you could miss it) I do believe the service is sweet and very accommodating. They checked to see if I was alright which I appreciated. The book variety is typical of many of the small independent bookstores I see in town. They do have events which I signed up for. Overall I think it is a great place to have in the neighborhood and I got much use out of it and I will be back read more

I've been here a few times and have loved it every time. In the winter, it's very cozy and in the summer they have outdoor seating out in front of the store. I also really appreciate that they have the "no laptops after 6pm" rule. You can really feel the space change into an academic space to a more wine bar/cozy bookstore feel. I've always had great service when I've gone -- I think some/most of the baristas are writers themselves. I've overheard a few of them talking about projects they were working on when I was there during the day. Additionally, their book selection is vast despite the small space. Their wine and coffee menu is similar to one of a wine bar and coffee shop, with extensive options for each.
