The apartment (Dakota Prairie Apartments, Dakota Dunes) was large, quiet, and modern. The apartments include a garage, a patio, and, for a little extra, a washer and dryer (in unit). The on-site managers are extremely handy and helpful, not to mention nice. We very much recommend Dunham.

We signed here for the indoor/outdoor pool with 24/7 access. They changed the rule to close at 11pm shortly after moving in. We found this out last night when this horrible lady came in yelling at us and clapping her hands at 11pm about giving us lease violations and threatening eviction. We had our ESA service animal with us and they charged us $120 for this (illegal) and $120 for pool after hours. Completely unprofessional and she shouldn't be employed any longer. The halls smell like weed every other day, I've witnessed drug deals outside our apartment. A girls car window got smashed in the other day. The police are here every other weekend. The apt provided WiFi is in out all day and hardly works. They say the pool rules are for safety but obviously just to save money on insurance. Terrible place to live.

The third time, I found the perfect property and then was told my income wasn't 3 times the rental amount. I provided proof of income that showed monthly income exceeding 3 times the rental amount. They informed me that my year to date income was used and that didn't prove enough income. I explained I had a medical procedure requiring time away from work but I was recovered and returned to work for several months since then, even providing more evidence of income prior and after the medical procedure. They told me to chose a lower cost rental. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Totally a waste of time and effort! If I could rate a 0, that would be too much!

Scam Company, Avoid they will try to make you pay to renovate a property you rented…read more June 2022 had rented a property via apartments.com, half way through the lease the landlord switch from apartments.com over to Alpine Property. Alpine after taking management of the property did not conduct an inspection (as noted by multiple employees saying there is none). There were multiple maintenance requests put in that went unfulfilled or fell on myself (tenant) to handle. There was a severe leak in the bathroom that continued for months as plumbers were called in, with no solution found. Eventually I had to suggest looking at the possibility of a roof leak (most water came in after warm days after a snow) to which finally his was taken care of. Upon move in there was no handle on the fridge that stayed that way until leaving. The house was noted from the landlord as not in perfect condition, and had various flaws; commenting this was "the charm of the place". Before moving out I called the Alpine office stating that I was moving and if I needed to do anything further, as well as if they had any other properties available. I was told no. This was 3 months prior to move out. As move out closed in I contacted them again for their checklist and I was then informed I did not tell them I was moving out, I let them know I did, and who I talked to. I was told that that person didn't know better and it's my fault. I also told them about the various issues with the place upon move in and how the owner can confirm this, to which she did. When receiving the deposit disposition they disregarded all of the information on prior damages and blamed me for them, eventually some items were removed but many were left on even though the owner states they were like that. I also hired a professional cleaning service for the move out to which this was apparently not good enough for Alpine (it was spotless) and they comment it was $150 to wipe behind oven and microwave. I was also charged prorated rent for their employee not telling me proper move out notification procedure.

Aside from that, I locked myself out of the main entrance after briefly stepping out to move my car for parking. I did not have the key to the bottom public entrance, although I still had the key to my boyfriend's apartment. My boyfriend was still sleeping with is phone on silent as we both work later hours. This would not have been an ordeal, I would have waited in a coffee shop, but unfortunately, I did not have my wallet, cell phone, work-laptop, or purse because they were inside. Not to mention I was braless and in my pajamas still. Also, I planned to travel from Sioux Falls to Chicago on this particular day. After 45 minutes of waiting trying to call my boyfriend (who was sleeping) from a business phone, I was told by the owners of the building, who run the laundry mat next door to talk to the management (which is Legacy Real Estate) and ask them to open up so that I could get back in. I reluctantly went up to the 4th floor of the Dillinger Building and told the management what happened. I approached the front desk and tried explaining, when a mean lady interrupted. She didn't even care to know my name, my boyfriend's name, or the situation. She claimed she had no idea who lived or was on the lease in the apartment that I mentioned. Shouldn't a building management company know who lives in which apartment? She did not care to look it up, as she was hostile from the start. I held the key to get in my boyfriend's apartment pleading for an escort from the management so that I could retrieve my wallet. The stupid, short-haired, ill-tempered lady started yelling at me, and kept repeating herself like a broken record: "We Can't Open UP the Doors because LEGALLY WE COULD GET SUED for letting someone in." (Really? You can't escort a guest inside the main entrance to a building to help them retrieve their purse? Why was I just escorted through your Dillinger building last week then, when I was interested in an apartment as a potential renter?) The only thing that I can see Legacy Real Estate getting sued for is the rotting wood stairs covered in old carpet that feel like they are about to cave in. The ridiculous lady ended with the advise that I should "wait outside till someone randomly exits" implying that creeping around for an opportunity to sneak inside while someone exits is a better way to safely and legally enter a building vs being escorted by management? Absurd. She was still yelling, even as I walked away. I was almost in tears pressing the buttons to go down the elevator not saying anything and she was still yelling at me. I considered walking to the police a few blocks down but I did not want to make a bigger scene than she had already made for the sake of my boyfriend. My boyfriend, who works afternoon to evening hours, eventually ended up coming down quicker than expected after two hours of this ordeal, waking up earlier than usual and seeing my purse still there. Otherwise it would have taken 4-5 hours by the time he normally wakes up, and by then, I would have had the police there. The police may have then "bothered" Legacy Real Estate to open up. Who knows? This was a potentially panicking experience and the building management made sure I panicked. This was a bad situation made horrible, absolutely horrible, by Legacy Real Estate. So to express their negligence, short-sightedness and pretentiousness, I should take photos of the molded wood siding that is flaking off in the run-down bathrooms in their managed building next door and the garbage that is so high it is drowning the fire escape in the back. The quality of rentals in Sioux Falls is sad, like the people who run facilities like these. There are few buildings that are up-kept tastefully.

I made several both on email and voice mail that went unanswered. Example - upon move in we wanted direct tv vs local cable. We provided to Legacy several pieces of information and requested consideration but never got an answer. Upon departure, we gave adequate and appropriate notice per our lease. We vacated the premises early and asked repeatedly if we fulfilled our check out requirements. After several communication attempts I finally spoke to a receptionist who said everything was in order and looked good. She anticipated us receiving our full deposit. Two weeks later in the mail we receive our check with over $200 discounted for nail hole repair and painting. Again, no response to our several phone and email inquiries on this topic. Just their form letter and a brief description. Rent from Legacy only if you are patient with communication and you are willing to take the risk nothing goes wrong!
