In The Heights was splendid. What a wonderful musical to bring to Miami. It's such a warm, positive story and of course all the Latin backgrounds, accents, slang, and spanglish fit in perfectly to our city. The music and songs were so much fun. I actually wanted to get up and dance at certain points, this show was bursting with energy and I'd love to see them come back for a longer run. As for the storyline, it was rather honest. I think most of the audience identified with the sacrifices parents are willing to make to support their children's future. And the idea of a neighborhood or rather a community becoming a family of sorts, is one I'm sure many can relate to.

Since it's in Hialeah, much of the performance is in Spanish, which makes sense considering the city's predominantly Spanish-speaking community. This year's production also placed a strong emphasis on soccer and FIFA. While that will certainly appeal to many guests, those who aren't soccer fans may not connect with those segments as much. For adults, the show is enjoyable, but I felt it was just missing that extra "wow" factor that would make it truly unforgettable. That's the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. I don't mean that as a negative criticism--rather, I see it as an opportunity for an already good show to become even better. One thing I really appreciate is that this is a family-run business. I'm always happy to support small, family-owned businesses, and it's clear that they genuinely work hard to improve with each performance. I like the casual outdoor environment, part of the experience is showing up and having some sangria or Estrella Galicia while you wait for your show to start. Staff is friendly, however if you ask them for a recommendation, they do not favor any play, they are very neutral with the comments they share. Food vendors vary from tacos, arepas, colombian street fare, etc.

The show detailed the lives of four women in the after life and what exactly they abstained from. For those non-speaking Spanish folks, abstinencias are abstinences. However, I am not here to review the show. Let's review what matters: the actual location. The day of the show, my boyfriend and I parked at an adjacent garage that typically is $15. Given that it was a show night, though, validating the parking ticket was a possibility. We got it validated when we bought our actual show tickets in person. The cost of the parking ticket went down from $15 to $5, saving us $10, so that was great. The parking garage takes both cards and cash, so that was also stress free. The center, on the other hand, is cash only, so come prepared. That being said, once that is done, entering to see the show comes next. We sat in some seats, were able to see the show, and all was great for the most part. I only have one complaint and it comes down to the temperature. The night we went, it was hot inside, and I mean hot. I typically never am hot, I am usually always cold, but oh boy, this was the one exception and I was not pleased. It did take a bit from the show. That and the acoustics; there were times it was difficult to hear the actresses, but I think that depends more on the actresses and their voices. Some were quite loud, while others spoke softer, so keeping that in mind, yes indeed, my one complaint is the temperature. Fix that please and thank you.

This past Saturday February 8th, my friend and I had the chance to attend Hialeah's first Food & Wine festival. Held in the historic Hialeah Park Racetrack & Casino, the venue provided an awesome setting for this event. The string lights over the tasting area, the classic cars & historic clubhouse for photo opps (and the practicality of potty) along with photo booths & set pieces along the food tasting area made for a fun night. But let's get to the main part of the title - food & wine! Pretty much right from the start we were greeted by a mix of chains and local Hialeah eateries. Our first bites were a spicy garbanzo and short rib made in the famous "Caja China" by Trigo. La Bodeguita (another fav) showcased their both their manchego as well as a spicy chicken croquetas, as well as vino of course. Fresa Francesa, Hialeah's first trendy retaurant had a yummy risotto. The Outback "en la 49" treated us to a delicious sampler plate of steak, Mac and cheese and of course, wine! Oh and Hialeah institution Molina's Ranch had moros and lechon. For those of us who grew up in the area, it was great to try Hill's Cafe. Why the nostalgia? Well Hillary the owner used to be a manager at Miami Lakes' institution Beverly Hills Cafe. From what I understand, the plan is to bring back some of the nostalgic favorites. The caprese skewers I tried were fresh, and provided a great tease of their salads and other dishes. Can't wait for them to officially open! Of course, there was plenty of wine, cocktails and a commemorative wine glass. Rum, Reds, Whites, all you want! There was even colada and cortaditos. There's one room where we waited there with chairs and sofas and I thought that the master live talk was going to be at that room, but like an hour after I got there, they opened the red curtains and we all went inside another room prepared with a stage, wonderful sound system, and chairs. The bad thing was that we had poor or no signal inside the room. I enjoyed this conference very much at this great place. Raul's consistent positive energy makes classes with him such a blast. He is also the most talented lead I've ever danced with; he can guide anyone, regardless of their skill level or amount of prior experience. Dancing with him is always a guaranteed great time. Because Raul is extremely kind and supportive, he creates a really warm and comfortable environment for learning and improving. These classes are perfect for anyone who is just starting out or looking to improve their salsa or bachata. Raul and Demi help you master the basics and build confidence in a way that's really fun and accessible. Classes with them are such a great experience that the time just flies by.
