It came with fries. They didnt have ketchup, but provided me with a cilantro sauce which actually paired better with the fries. Dessert: Vice City Tres Leches: DELICIOUS. Be ware if you cant finish it. They dont have a good method of it being to go due to how it's served. I did ask for a to go box anyways lol. Maybe try the to go box and see if they have saran wrap. The leche will escape the box. After dinner: French tea. Served hot in the most beautiful tea pot. I drank it as is. The live Jazz music was a bonus. We really enjoyed the music. Armstrong Jazz House is one of those places you visit for the experience as much as the food. I came here for a surprise birthday dinner, and from the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping back in time. There was already a crowd outside waiting for the next seating, and once inside, the intimate setup immediately stood out. With only about a dozen tables, a tiny bar, and the rest of the room dedicated to the stage, it feels exclusive without being pretentious. We sat at the VIP table tucked off to the side. At first, I wondered if the view would be limited, but it ended up being one of the coolest seats in the house. Watching the performers through the side curtains gave everything a romantic, vintage feel, while looking out across the room made it feel like you were hosting the evening. A special shout-out to our server, Arlene. She was hilarious, quick-witted, attentive, and timed everything perfectly. She even brought dessert out at just the right moment so we could enjoy it while finishing the show without feeling rushed. The only disappointment was that the grill was down that evening, so most of the beef entrées weren't available. Thankfully, I had planned on ordering the salmon anyway, and it was cooked perfectly. Just know that if you're coming specifically for a steak, you may want to confirm availability first. The passion fruit cheesecake was much sweeter than I expected, but still delicious. And then there's the jazz. Miami doesn't have nearly enough places like this. The musicians were talented, and the atmosphere alone is worth the visit. If you're a serious jazz fan, you may wish there was a little more improvisation and a little less sticking to the standard arrangements. The vocalist was good, but none of the performances were particularly unforgettable. Still, that's not really why you come here. The doorman was also one of the singers!! This place was phenomenal. It is very small. So the reason they didn't get 5 stars is because I was sat at the entrance and was blocking everyone who entered or existed. The walls are decorated with all kinds of jazz memorabilia. Another thing that took their 5 stars was the alcohol options. It is all fermented alcohol and no name brands. We shared steak bites, truffle fries, and the chicken tostones. Been wanting to come to this place for a while for their live music. They have $15 valet or self parking on the street with the pay by phone app. Also add $5 cover fee to bill for the music. Since it was just me I was able to sit at the bar without a reservation. I got the Evan's Espresso Martini and ordered the Jazzy Chicken Francese with the truffle fries. Apparently they make their own spirits in house so nothing is made with branded liquor. Small dining menu with very generic cocktails. The food & drinks were delicious but nothing out of this world. Also New Orleans inspired menu but no beignets?? Broke my heart. I think they rely too heavily on the atmosphere & live music and could put a little more love into the overall dining experience. Armstrong Jazz House was the perfect place for a late-night cocktail and live music. I got my usual old fashioned and it was perfect. My husband and I shared a dulce de leche Pavlova. It was so beautiful and even more delicious. My husband isn't really a sweets kind of guy but even he loved it. The jazz band was amazing. They even allowed a guest to sing Sinatra's "My Way". My friend and I got some drinks and coffee and ended up unknowingly staying 45 mins past closing but nobody pressured us to leave or even mentioned anything-- the staff was so friendly and polite. Wow! We finally found our perfect go-to place for jazz, great food, and relaxing atmosphere. The place may be small but it's huge in personality and great personnel. The staff was friendly and, oh sooo efficient. Upon arrival they give you a complimentary shot of their passion fruit cocktail. Despite its name, this is not a place for serious jazz listeners, it's a nice restaurant with tasty food-albeit limited menu, excellent cocktails and great jazz themed and vintage decor. Very recommended for first dates or for a special occasions in particular if you choose corner table adjacent to the entrance. It's a small location but does have sidewalk seating. My companion and I enjoyed our meals-jazzy chicken francesa and the Cajun shrimp/calamari. The full house was not there for the music, they didn't even applaud throughout the evening. On the particular evening I went, it was somewhat boring and even a bit uninspired - almost like background music. The 3 pc band wasn't bad, just not terribly exciting. The guitarist in between sets seemed like a good idea, but he spent most of his time setting up and then delivered one song. The server was nice and not pushy. He explained they have wine and low alcohol drinks and no cordials, e.g., amaretto or frangelica, because they don't have the right license. They have a beautiful tea service, but serve only raspberry tea! They have outdoor seating, but it looked like it's just for smoke breaks. Great tunes when I entered, but the bar staff were not the friendliest and did not seem that interested in serving my group of 3 (as we were not sitting at a table and instead choose the bar for a drink). The barman was decent (2 wines and an Old Fashioned, so not that difficult of an order). We were asked to shift down 1 seat at the bar about 10 minutes after we sat down, to free up 2 seats together. I don't have an issue with that, but no one ever sat in those seats. Shifting down put us closer to the staff area (kitchen), so we were then constantly bumped into as the staff moved around. We couldn't get any closer to the bar, due to the size of the seats. All in all, a cozy spot to listen to some good local jazz musicians, but the staff that night left my experience lacking. read more

The atmosphere at this place is super chill. The crowd is late 40s-70s ish. You do need a reservation, and on Thursday night that was definitely the case. The band was decent. Mellow. The space was super tight. Most the tables are alongside the wall, and it feels like you are on top of your neighbors. The one lady I basically shared an armrest with kept moving so much and bumping me every time she did, I felt like I was stuck on a flight with a toddler I couldn't escape from. The food was not what I expected, especially considering the prices, a bit underwhelming. The steak was well-prepared. But nothing spectacular. The salmon was well prepared too, but again, for the price it wasn't phenomenal. We also split the calamari and shrimp appetizer. Again, we have all had better, was the consensus. (My friend felt the sauce was very watery, I felt like it had a lot of condiments- salty.) I also ordered the French onion soup. That looked like it would be good, but I found it very over condimented, a lot of what tasted like cumin. I think the best thing about this place is the service. The estate of Louis Armstrong needs to send this place a cease and desist immediately. Respectfully. Armstrong Jazz House gives strong "there is no other jazz spot in Miami so let's just open something and hope people don't ask questions" energy. The *idea* is doing all the work here, because everything else is struggling to keep up. Let's start with the food. The menu is bad. The drink options are worse. And the food itself is almost impressive in how consistently disappointing it is. I have never had a French onion soup so aggressively unpleasant. The steak was completely unseasoned. The truffle fries deserve their own apology letter. How do you ruin truffle fries? That takes effort. The space is tiny to the point of chaos. Guests were being physically pushed as people came and went all night. Customer service was peak Miami in the worst way. Our waitress spilled a drink on us, brought the wrong meal, and somehow that was not even the lowest point. The manager was. We had planned a large party and communicated with the restaurant for weeks. Then, the night before the event, another manager called to tell us we suddenly had to meet an outrageous minimum spend because they had just realized we were basically booking the entire place except for a few tables. The night before. After weeks of planning. That alone soured the experience before we even arrived and showed a complete lack of foresight or professionalism. Now the music. Or whatever that was. You sit there thinking background music is playing through speakers, only to look over and realize no, that is the band. No announcements. No energy. Just quiet, underwhelming jazz happening to you instead of being performed for you. For a place built around music, this was shocking. Two stars because I do love the dark, grown, and sexy vibe. The atmosphere has potential. But this place could actually be great if it revamped the menu, fixed the drink program, trained the staff and management, and for the love of jazz, hired an MC or someone to actually introduce the band. This cafe has live jazz music every night! Just a note there is a cover charge and they finish playing earlier than the restaurant closes (around 11:15 the night I came). We finally came with the proper-prior-reservation and the experience went excellent. We sat promptly, the table was pretty good located right in front of the stage, I don't think there is a bad table here anyways, the drinks are not too good because they are made of winebase, my sister and husband ordered Oldfashiones and they were mediocre. The services was very friendly, the music top-notch, the sound very good, we enjoy the bonus performance of their bouncer (this lady won't last long there) and she is a super talent, and the food was very good, the churrasco was tasty and cooked to perfection, the French soup was good and the tostones as appetizer were a bit salty and why too small for the price. It's a small club with very tightly packed tables hence the 4/5 stars. I recommend making a reservation as it's not a large space and can fill up quickly. The food menu is extremely limited, and because they don't have a liquor license, the drink selection is also quite limited and mostly consists of fermented beverages. The band was decent, but the volume was so loud for such a small space that it was difficult to enjoy the music clearly or have a conversation. Seating also felt cramped--we were constantly having to move for the waiters to get around to the other tables, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the evening. the website should do a better job of setting expectations for first-time visitors. Six of us went for a birthday celebration. We were greeted with a shot of something yummy from New Orleans. Our table was near the band. Inside is small but very opulent and cozy. We started with 2 orders of calamari and shrimp. They took forever to come out from the kitchen and were "less than" warm, but had a nice flavor and we were hungry, so were gone in no time. I got the skirt steak with a side of mashed potatoes, and an additional side of the parmesan broccoli. It was super delicious. I'm looking at the menu now and wondering if they've made some changes, or if I just missed seeing the beignet conch fritters or the European plantain appetizers. Oh well...something to look forward to for next time. For dessert we got the Paris Pavlova, and it was as heavenly as it sounds: Dulce de leche, strawberries and meringue. So the jazz was outstanding and made for great entertainment and a special night. Armstrong's a definitely a score for a date night or special occasion. I booked my reservation a week in advance for Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and arrived exactly on time, only to be told that there were already eight parties ahead of me waiting to be seated for the same reservation time. It was clear the restaurant had significantly overbooked. While we were waiting outside, another party with an 8:00 p.m. reservation arrived around 8:20 p.m. They complained to the manager that they should be seated immediately, and the manager seated them right away, skipping everyone else who had been waiting longer. That was incredibly frustrating and unfair. After an hour and some the restaurant then told us the best they could do was seat us outside, even though we had paid a reservation fee with the expectation of dining inside and enjoying the live music. Initially, they expected us to eat on a couch with a coffee table so low that we would have had to balance the plates on our laps. After we complained, they moved us to a proper table. Unfortunately, the experience only got worse. We were informed that only two entrées were available for the entire night. When we ordered an appetizer, they brought the wrong dish. At that point, we decided to leave. Paying a reservation fee only to be seated outside, being expected to pay a house fee for live music that we could barely hear or even see, and then having only two entrée options made the entire experience feel like a complete waste of time and money. The one positive was the hostess, who genuinely tried her best to accommodate us despite the circumstances. None of this was her fault. However, the restaurant's poor management, overbooking, and lack of preparation completely ruined the experience. I won't be returning. Think twice before coming here. read more

Honestly this place could be great. The music was perfect. Interior was nicely done. But after that this misses the mark across the board. 1) this is not a full liquor bar. Yet they have a cocktail section. So pretty much your paying $16 for fruit juice 2) even if you wanted to order a cocktail most of the items aren't even available on the menu. Also, various food items weren't available as well even though this is a limited menu. 3) what it says on the menu is not what you get. The tostones said you get 5 and the plate has 4. See my picture 4) the food service is wildly slow. We sat down and ordered two meals and after one hour of waiting nothing came out. We ended up cancelling our order and going somewhere else. 5) when we got our tab they have one hand held machine that they show your total but when you actually pay the waiter pulled out his iPhone to process payment. Very strange to see that. Also, the card machine apparently doesn't work with Visa cards which is insane. Really sad to see a great concept ran so poorly. I'd be shocked if this place stays open for long with so many other better options in the gables. read more

we had an amazing evening at Armstrong's jazz . From the moment we arrived we were treated as if we were old friends. The service was impeccable. The food was over the top delicious we had the chimichurri skirt steak. The chicken Marcella, and the sides were amazing too. when it came to dessert, the most beautiful Pavlova. The music of Richard Bravo and his group did an amazing job. The atmosphere was perfect. The volume of the sound was perfect this place rocks and we will be back there soon. The only reason for 4 stars is that the space is small and tight and our reservation was late so some of the stuff on the menu we wanted were unavailable. Other than that, the ambiance was amazing, service was amazing, and the music was amazing. When you first sit down, they welcome you with a small glass of champagne and a hot wet towel, and broth to clean your palate. They have great options on the menu and fantastic selections of wines. The ambience was great. Cozy, warm. The restaurant is small, too small for the jazz music which resonated all over. We had difficulty hearing each other. The food was very disappointing. Everyone had an issue with their food. Steaks were not cooked as the guests asked. My seafood was not cooked how I asked.
