I didn't hire them directly, but they were moving people into my building. We aren't apartments, but condos and we take pride in our community ... but living in a community has shared rules. We are downtown. As a result, unless you know someone, don't open doors for others and don't prop open doors (we have had homeless in our stairways, roaming the hallways, and even assaulting the property manager). When I spoke to one mover about propping open the doors, he was polite. When I spoke with another, he started talking smack. They are rude. Don't hire them if you want to start off on a good foot with your new neighbors. Also, they were really loud as they started off the morning. Please avoid using this company. I used them for a small local move and besides damaging our walls and our exercise equipment, they cracked our new cement driveway. I filed a claim and they blew it off. I thought they were a more reputable company vs all the others, but they are not. I could go into more negative details. I tried to work and reason with their claims department but to no avail. Now I see that their website has changed. Seems even more shady now. I treated their workers with respect, helped them carry stuff, bought them lunch and gave them a tip. Then when I noticed they cracked our driveway with their truck, I went through the claim process and they did nothing. Again, don't trust them and don't trust that if they damage your stuff that they will cover it, apparently they won't. Thanks. Here is my reply to Local Motion's comment: Thanks for the reply. Here are some comments; it was obvious when the two man crew conducted the move that they bumped/gouged walls, scraped floors scratched entry doors and while they were not 'major', I gave them/you a 'pass' because I know that during a move 'stuff happens'. A panel on our elliptical was snapped off by your crew, they know, held the piece in their hands, but brushed it off. At the time figured I could just get it fixed myself (but really why didn't they initiate the claim then?!). But the 'last straw' was when I noticed over the weekend (after the Friday move), that the corner of our brand new cement driveway was cracked. Did your claims manager even bother to interview the work crew that day? If they did, they probably would have received an honest response from the younger worker that 'yeah, maybe it was not a good idea to back the heavy truck on the driveway' when it wasn't even needed. The older worker backed the truck up and I could tell by the reaction of the younger guy that maybe this wasn't going to be a good idea. It wasn't until after they left that I noticed the crack. I'm tired of trying to work with your company. I sent a reply to the claims person Bill Whiteis and he didn't bother the courtesy of replying back. I could go through the hassle of filing a claim on the other stuff, but the compensation is peanuts compared to what I'm now going to have to do to fix our BRAND NEW CEMENT DRIVEWAY. Maybe from this experience your company can change your SOP's to not drive a heavy truck on anyone's driveway. My slight delay in filing a claim is because; we were busy that weekend inside the house with all the stuff we moved, the weather outside during that time was extremely cold and wet and we even got some snow so it was hard to see the driveway, I notified your claims person what the process was early that week and then after a couple more days I was able to take photos and write up a five page report - who actually goes through that kind of effort to file a claim - I challenge you guys to show me who. Anyway, I trusted you over 15 other moving companies. I was sold that maybe if anything bad happened, that you seemed like a reputable, local company. I was wrong and you didn't stand by your work. The worst collection of removal zombies you could ever find.. The first thing they did on arrival was to increase my bill that I was quoted. Con#1 They appeared to dismantle the king size four-poster bed ok, but forgot how to put it back together again Mistake#1 After a lunch break the began to empty their van. Thinks seemed to be going very slow as they forgot how to reassemble the bed. Mistake#2 On bringing the furniture they broke the front door. Mistake# 3 Then they accused us of breaking the door Do I look like a removal man? Mistake or lie#4 Still struggling with the bed, they asked to borrow a HAMMER obviously an essential part of removal equipment and proceeded do damage the bed fittings- COWBOYS Mistake# 5 I called their boss at the office as by this time 3 hours had gone by without success The boss called one of them and it seemed that he was asking what the holdup was. I heard the reply referring to 40 BOXES TO UNPACK. THERE WERE NO BOXES Mistake# 6 Finally with no bed assembled I was presented with a bill for more than double the quoted price AND the senior Zombie tried to use my credit card before I even knew the charge. Local Motion team was FANTASTIC. We were recommended Local Motion from a friend, and was able to book a move a week before. Local Motion was able to accommodate the short notice as well giving me a quick estimate. The day of the move, Minnesota threw every type of weather road-block anyone would dread on a moving day. Pouring rain in the morning, and snow in the afternoon. The movers were slated to show up anytime between 11am - 4pm, depending on how the first move went. Needless to say, my jaw dropped when Anthony called and said he was on his way and would be at the house at 11:15. I thought for sure the terrible weather was going to push back my start time. I was wrong. Anthony and the guys were professional and QUICK. I'm so happy I went with Local Motion. They made what could have been a very stressful situation, a breeze. read more

This year, after three reasonably happy years in our apartment near the U of MN campus, my husband and I decided it was time to move. Not wanting the hassle and backaches of moving, we hired Local Motion. The sense of calm and serenity before moving was the last positive experience we had with Local Motion. Moving day came and from the start the two movers were difficult to deal with. Moving from campus at the end of August is tricky business and parking can be hard to find; they whined about not finding a place to park (to say nothing of the parking lot in the back of the building we were allowed to use). Then it became an issue of the items that we were going to be moving ourselves ("You didn't even f***ing pack!" and "What the f*** is this?") such as our cats and our food. After this, they started complaining about the number of boxes and the number of stairs (we lived on the second floor of an old building); when you get an estimate, they consider the number of boxes you have, so this should not have been news to them. So, we're off to a rocky start. I went to go pick up the keys for our new place when my husband calls, informing me that the movers have refused to keep moving! I end up paying them $195 for 45 minutes of actual moving/hauling, a profoundly disrespectful attitude and positively insulting language directed at me. Luckily, U-Haul in Hopkins was able to rent out a van to us and some marvelous friends and family came through for us that evening. A few days later when we had settled in, I called Local Motion to discuss what happened. The first person I talked to told me flatly, "This isn't my problem." She transfered me to another person who listened to what I had to say. Unfortunately, he told me I must be mistaken and that his workers would never treat a customer that way, but even if they did, there was nothing he could do about it. I was promised a follow-up call which has yet to come. No offer to reimburse us for the truck we rented out, no offer to refund our money, no apology. I work in retail and would have been dismissed IMMEDIATELY for such behavior. It was incredible to see such dismal customer service on so many levels. My advice? Skip the movers, get a dozen or so friends to help you move, then take the money you would have paid the movers to buy your friends dinner and a round of drinks. Oh, and as an added bonus, the movers took my wedding dress which was in a special bag hanging up and shoved it under several heavy boxes. The rough handling caused both the straps to rip off. I moved with them over the course of two days. First into a storage locker, the next to move in to my new place. The two experiences could not have been more different. The first day was a nightmare. They quoted the project to take 2 hours. Based on their quote, I had made other plans for the rest of the day. Neither of the guys had been there for more than a year. One of the guys showed up hungover (I knew this would be interesting right from the start) and it ended up taking 8 hours, not 2. I spent half an hour at the end of the day with one of the guys teaching him how to calculate minutes into a percent of an hour (of course they were charging their hourly rate during this basic math lesson). Obviously I complained to management and got a response from Brett Smith the general manager. The response didn't take any responsibility and included (1) excuses and (2) factors that they should have incorporated into the estimate. For example, I moved out of a high rise in Minneapolis. This company has had several moves in and out of the building. Movers have to walk to and from the elevator, and to the designated moving space for trucks. They knew all of this based on my address before providing a quote. Yet, Mr. Smith claimed this was a reason for why the move took longer. He also claimed I had more stuff to move than was expected. However, I was using boxes they provided so they knew exactly how much to expect, and I didn't even use all of them. From his response it was clear their estimate is in no way, shape, or form an estimate of what they actually planned to bill. They provided an estimate that was meant to be lower than their competition and win your business. Then, when they get all your valuables in their truck they slam you with a bigger bill and claim that its your fault. This tactic is classic bait and switch fraud. The second time the guys who showed up were great. It felt like a different company. I couldn't imagine the move going smoother, but that also took nearly 40% more than their estimate. This is why they have such a variety of reviews. Management clearly knows they have good crews and bad crews. It becomes the luck of the draw which you get. Unfortunately for the guys who work here who do awesome work, they get lumped in with the the rest of the boneheads who simply show up and start running up your bill. I cannot recommend this company. They may likely give you the lowest quote, but don't place any faith in it, they didn't provide it in good faith and that is not what you will end up paying. read more

I moved in late August 2012 and also had items lost when I unpacked. A large box from my kitchen went missing and the move was only a mile with no stops in between. Local Motion has been unresponsive to my calls, emails and claim submission. I now need to replace hundreds of dollars in kitchen items at my own expense. I filed a claim with the BBB and the response from Local Motion is that since I signed for the items, they are not responsible. They did not do any inventory of the items moved so I did not know the items were missing until unpacking. Find a better company for your move. read more

I had a rocky experience with Local Motion this past week. The movers showed up on-time and got me out of my one-bedroom apartment in about 2.5 hours (I have a good amount of stuff and very heavy kind-sized bed). Unfortunately, they were not particularly gentle with my belongings, especially the furniture. When we arrived at the new place, we discovered a broken lamp right away. Then they put the bed back together...without looking at the assembly instructions I provided for them (indeed, they left the instructions at the old apartment, which I then had to drive back to pick up for them...and which they continued to not reference). Once they announced they were done, I examined the bed - a drawer was sticking out from the bottom (it's a storage bed). I pointed this out and they got back to work. About 45 minutes later, they announced they were done again....and again, a drawer (a different one this time) wouldn't shut. After another 45 minutes, they told me they had broken the ball bearings on the drawer slide. They filled out a claims form and told me someone would be out tomorrow to fix the ball bearing they said they broke during the move. I should note: they discounted 2 hours of the move because of their incompetence with the bed, which I appreciate. A point here: Make sure you actually read the claim form should you chose to use this company. While the two movers told me it would be fixed the next day, and that I would hear from someone from the company by 7 pm that evening to confirm what time the repair guys would be there the next day, that turned out not to be entirely accurate. When I hadn't heard from anyone that evening, I called and left a message - it was returned by about 8:30 the next morning. During that phone call, I was told that if the bed was broken, it would be up to 30 days to get a repair person out to look at it, and then order/install the parts. I was furious, and so the company sent out two of their more senior guys to take a look at the bed (and the lamp), which they informed me was not "standard operating procedure". It turns out that the bed was not broken; instead, the two guys who initially built it bent some pieces and that's what was preventing it from shutting. The only two reasons I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1 is (a) because of the two guys who came over the day after my move to fix it. They were kind and focused, and fixed the bed within 30 minutes (the lamp they also "fixed"...it broke again that night when I tried to move it.) And (b) the deal where they buy back your boxes is pretty awesome - granted, you have to drive out to Brooklyn Park in order to take advantage of it, but it was nice to get all my money back for that piece of things. Which reminds me: THEY'RE IN BROOKLYN PARK, NOT MINNEAPOLIS. The address that comes up on Google - and on this site, for that matter - is not accurate. Don't know how that hasn't been updated yet, but beware: you need to drive out to Brooklyn Park to find these guys. Also, don't believe their time quotes - they told me 3 hours. It took 8. I knew it would take more than 3...but more than double that? Come on. read more

We just sold our home and had the carpets cleaned throughout the house for the buyers. The Local Motion movers did not have sufficient coverage for newly cleaned carpet, and when I asked them not to walk on the carpet with their shoes, they said they felt disrespected. Every request that I made was met with a comment or resistance to the request. They broke the top of our treadmill when bringing it up the stairs, and then said they knew they should have disconnected the top before attempting to lift it. The stacked heavy items on top of our wardrobe boxes, and when the wardrobe box was crushed and I commented on it, the mover made a smart comment, "I guess your clothes will get crushed." Finally, they wanted to charge me for sweeping out their truck at the end of the move. When I objected to having them charge additional time to clean the truck, they got upset. They did a lot of heavy lifting, and I wanted to tip them; but, their attitudes became so contentious at the end, that the move ended on a sour note. read more

If you are looking for an overpriced mover who will damage your property, not respond to phone calls and lie to you, this the the company for you. They electronically take out the funds from your account before they complete the move. Convenient, because when you are not happy with the job (which you wont be), they get paid and you will never see your money. If you have damaged items, and you will, good luck getting them fixed or replaced. I completed all the necessary paperwork and supplied photos of the damage and still cannot get anyone from the company to call me back. Real Nice!!! Read all of the other Yelp reviews. This is the absolute worst excuse for a moving company I have ever seen. Was quoted 3 and a half hours at $350 for my move from a one bedroom apartment but it took my slow incompetent movers 5 hours!!! THEY CHARGED ME $922!!!!!! When I called the manager he said I had 56 boxes and I said 30 but I only bought 30 boxes! I told the mover i wasn't going to sign his paperwork and he said he wouldn't leave until I do and that he won't get paid if I don't, I don't care that he wouldn't get paid but he forced my hand by not leaving, I should have called the police. I HATE THIS COMPANY THIS IS A SCAM AND THEY WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU In response to the comment below.. 2 hours past the estimated 3 was completely unnecessary for my one bedroom apartment. 5 hours to move a one bedroom is unheard of. Regardless $350 was the estimate and 2 hours past the estimate it went up to $922.. how does that make sense? This company is a scam and your workers are slow and incompetent. The 'additional situations' you speak of were the 'long walks' for the movers, although that was a complete lie they had access to an elevator that couldn't have been closer to my apartment and parked directly in front of my new place which is 13 minutes away from the old place and on floor 1 apartment 1. The move could not have been simpler. If this were a legitimate business you'd think that rectifying the situation with a refund, greater than that bullshit $140 you gave me, would have been more important than a dissatisfied customer spreading her experience around town. It took over a month to get payment for an item they broke. Honestly if nothing had gotten broken, or they had contacted me about it right away, I would have given them 4 stars. However, toward the end of the move my dresser was broken right in front of me and my boyfriend. The mover apologized and I was bummed, but it was what it was. I remembered that they made sure I initialed by that $0.60/lb insurance that was included with the move. Localmotion never once reached out to me after the move. I contacted them 5 days after the move and then they sent me a claim form. Also at that time there was a link sent to tell them how the experience was. I did not fill out at that time because I wanted to wait until everything was resolved. Again heard nothing until I emailed again 6 days later for an update. Then at that time I was told to that the claim manager would get back to me. He contacted me that day to say my claim was under review and I would be contacted by a repair person. I thought about this for a couple of days and then emailed him back. At no time was I told that if they broke something I would then have to have someone come and look at it to see if it could be repaired. They broke the thin wood between two drawer. So basically there would be a large drawer hole if I were to even try to use it. If they were to try to repair it, even if it did work, it wouldn't be like it was and it wouldn't last as long as it would have had it not been broken. I estimated it weighed 100 lbs. Which is probably a short estimate. So we are talking $60, which by the way, my 8.6 mile moved cost me over $350.00 to Localmotion. Six emails and a month later, I have my $60. Oh, and that email link to let them know how my move went? Yeah that's expired now, so I can't let them know directly. I figured this was the next best thing. read more

The actual move was fine. My things were in storage and a table had a box set on it and the glue left an outline on the table. I didn't opt for extra insurance, and so the claim they could give me is only $25. I moved the end of May and had the claim filed early June. It is October and I've been chasing the $25 for months now - sending around 7 emails. I would never recommend Local Motion to any one. My pregnant wife and I were moving out of our townhome to a house 10 minutes away. She called Local Motion and spoke with Bill Apple. She explained we already moved most of the house but we still had maybe 40 small boxes and some larger furniture that needed to be moved. We were scheduled to have them come on a Friday. On the day of the move Anthony showed up with his crew of two other people. I asked how he was doing and he said, "that remains to be seen." He showed up and immediately asked where my wife was. He sounded annoyed when he spoke to my wife. He claimed the quote he had was to move 15 boxes and 15 pieces of furniture (he said the mattress was its own piece and the bed frame was another). He also said he had two other guys because his next job was a bigger and more important. However, he had three hours. At this point, I was not happy with his tone talking to my wife and suggested maybe we get a U-Haul if they don't want to perform the job. Earlier that day we had three movers from another great company named Clean Movers come and unload our POD. They did everything in 45 minutes. They were very personable and efficient. Everything that Local Motion was not. Based on this it seemed that Local Motion should be able to load our items, drive to our new house that was 10 minutes away, and unload it with time to spare. However he said he was only willing to move 15 pieces and 15 boxes basically in a "take it or leave it" fashion. It felt like he was bullying her. My wife brought up the fact that the other movers up moved almost the same amount from our POD in about 45 minutes so they should be able to take the rest and move it within 3 hours. That's when he said, "Well I'm not a professional timekeeper" in a very condescending tone. This is when I told Anthony and his crew that they needed to leave because I wasn't going to allow them to talk to my wife like that. I called Local Motion and spoke to a salesperson. I explained the experience we had with Anthony and the salesperson interrupted me to tell me Anthony was a great worker and had been there for 8 years. Basically, he was insinuating that I was wrong and my experience didn't matter. I told him that I didn't care about that and he may be a great person but he must be having a bad day. I was then transferred to the moving coordinator that my wife had originally spoke to--Bill Apple. I explained the story again and he was more apologetic, but he said he was surprised to hear this because of Anthony's tenure. He had offered to see if another crew could come out that day and offered to call me back. He never called back. Again, this was on a Friday. The next day I called Local Motion in the morning and no one was answering the phone. I left a message asking Bill Apple to call me back. He never called that day, Sunday, or Monday so we had to scramble and rent a U-Haul. I called on Tuesday and spoke to Bill Apple and asked why he never called me back. He said it was because Anthony told him we were getting a U-Haul. I explained that he and I talked after that and he had said he was going to try and get a crew out to us. So again, I asked why he didn't call us back and he said because no crew was available. He didn't think that he needed to give us the courtesy to call us to tell us there was no crew available. He then said he could refund our deposit but had no explanation for not following up with us. I asked him to have his superior contact me but I'm not holding my breath. This is a terrible company with terrible customer service and you should stay away. read more

We requested a move from two different locations to one final location. There were 4 items to be moved. They were supposed to be at the first location at 9:00 am. I received a call from them at 8:50 am stating that they were going to be late. They finally arrived at the first location at 9:30 am. The move went OK. When they got to the second location and the furniture was moved, they asked to use our bathroom. I feel that the person who needed to use the facilities should have stopped at a location other than our home to use the facilities. read more

I was given a quote over the phone for how much my move would cost and paid way over my quote by over $1500.00. When I called the manager who originally gave me the quote he said I had much more furniture then what I told him over the phone and the move took much longer than what he thought. I understand that we did have a lot of furniture and the move did take several hours but I had spoken to him a couple of times before the move and felt I told him how much stuff we had to move. I got a quote from another company who actually came to our house to see what we had to move that's what this company should do instead of estimating quotes without visually looking. I recently used Local Motion to complete a move from my 1 bedroom apartment into a house. I was quoted $550 by the moving consultant Bill Apple. I went over with him in great detail the amount of furniture I had by email, and received an email back from him assuring me everything would fit and they would be able to do it within the 4 hour window. The day of the move came and it took the 3 man team 3 1/2 hours to load up my apartment, even though the moving team assured me the entire move would be completed within the 4 hour window. The team smoked while moving my furniture. They went 2 hours over the original estimate and presented me with a bill for $1220. I was totally exhausted and just wanted the team out of my house. As we unpacked, we started noticing all the damaged furniture. They also lost shelves and broke drawers. Bill had assured me that all furniture would be shrink wrapped, but they didn't have any with them. I lodged a complaint with the Better Business Bureau but Bill Apple refused to offer any concessions so the case was closed. I've filed claims with Local Motion to recover some of the cost of the damaged furniture, but am not holding my breath. What a poor way of doing business. Bill wrote in his defense of the claim that my original quote was "outdated" and that he had come up with a more accurate quote, but it would have been helpful if I had been told that my original estimate wasn't valid any longer BEFORE the move. My mother used Local Motion the next day to complete her move, and they damaged priceless antiques and charged her double her quoted amount also. What a poor company. I would strongly advise anyone using them to get everything in writing, not to initial all the boxes on the form they present you, and to pay only the amount on the estimate. All throughout my experience with Local Motion, I had every intention of writing a glowing, five-star review. From my interactions with Tony on the phone to discuss our move to the move itself, everything was excellent. Our crew of Calvin, Tony (different guy, I assume), and Marcus were all kinds of fun to work with, and clearly enjoyed working with one another, while also taking good care of our items. They made what is typically a very stressful experience much more enjoyable for us, and I truly appreciate that. The reason for the three-star review is that despite what I thought was a fairly extensive conversation with Tony to discuss the details/logistics of our move when calculating an estimate, I was surprised and disappointed when the actual bill came back significantly higher. Based on the fact that we were going to move some items ourselves, he and I had come up with a fairly broad range of pricing possibilities, depending on how much we had a chance to move ourselves before the big day. I was under the impression that the top end of that range was actually the top end, and was meant to represent a 'worst-case scenario' from a pricing perspective. That turned out not to be the case, as our final bill came in almost $400 higher than the very top end of the estimate, and even further afield from the middle of our estimate range, where I expected we might land. Thus, the middle-of-the-road review. Fantastic overall experience with everyone we interacted with, all of our things appear to have made the trip with no extensive damage to items or home, but much more expensive than we were led to believe. I can cautiously recommend Local Motion, if you are very careful about your quoting conversation, and fine with the price running higher than discussed. read more

I had verified my move with this company at LEAST 4 times prior to my move with them because I didn't want any hiccups or issues on the day of my move. Well on my move day, this company totally ghosted me. I called, texted and emailed them several times with NO response. This was even AFTER they called me to verify the move 2 days prior. They never called me back to let me know what happened to my moving truck and movers, to take accountability or even to apologize. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I had a great moving experience with this company. I was quoted a price based on a 4-5 hour move. When they arrived, I was told that it wasn't going to take that long because I had prepared so well. Local Motion did two moves, with three stops each time, for me - in March and May 2018. Initially, I was impressed - with the movers - courteous and professional. Now I am so disgusted and angry that I cannot even express how disappointing the experience was. Read on and DO NOT USE Local Motion, if you are hoping for a successful, stress free move. TERRIBLE! Here is a short summary of my experience: - 70% of my things were damaged - simply because they crammed the trucks so full and placed heavy things on top of fragile things, nearly everything was damaged. - 85% of my furniture (that they moved) has a nick, gash or scratch on it. - The new king size bed that was moved and then reset in my new home was not put together properly. Had to hire someone to redo it, only to discover that one of the drawers is damaged. - A unique, one of a kind family heirloom (chest) was apparently dropped, broke into several pieces, placed in a box (of mine - what did they do with what was in the box before?), taped and placed in my garage storage closet. I discovered it yesterday, when I was finally able to sort through what was there. - I used Local Motions temperature controlled storage to store my things during the interim period. Two faux leather jackets melted. Guessing that the temperature was not controlled. - They told me that "yes, of course, we can pack some of your items for you". So, I had them pack about 10% of my stuff and of course paid extra for this service. None of what they packed arrived intact. And in fact, the items were not wrapped but thrown in oversized boxes without rhyme or reason. And the boxes were not marked! So stuff that should have been in the garage, was placed in the upstairs bedroom and bedroom stuff was in the garage. It took me 75 days and extra help to move the stuff again. - All of my floor lamps (3) were broken - in half! I was informed that one had been damaged but not told of the others. - Walls were damaged - section actually missing - where some of my furniture was being stored. (A friends house). As I unpack, I continue to find remnants of their work. In between moves, I phoned to advise of early damage that I had observed (had no idea of the extent at this point) and was told that I could file a claim. The claim process is exhaustive and unless you have purchased additional insurance, reimbursement is a few cents a pound. I made the decision to simply be done with them. Not worth my time or energy. All that was broken, most beyond repair, has been tossed. I don't have the time, energy or inclination to deal with them again. Buyer beware! I don't know if I got lucky or I was really well prepared for my move but my experience with this company was great. I moved from my parent's house to a one bedroom apartment. I had everything packed up and in the garage as far as boxes and furniture disassembled. They arrived right on time and moved everything within an hour then let me know they were taking a 15 minute break to get gas and a coffee before heading to my apartment. Once they arrived they asked me where I wanted each furniture item as they brought it in. The two guys were polite and quick, and the cost ended up being less than the quoted cost. I read all the negative reviews on yelp after I had put down my deposit so I made sure to be there every step of the way as they moved my things and had everything 100% packed, cleaned and ready to go before they arrived. I think that helps in general when moving, especially with movers who don't know you and what you want done with your stuff! read more

Very unprofessional employees in the sales and billing department. Overcharged me over $500. Many Unanswered phone calls and email. Billing department said they billed me correctly. Took 7 weeks to finally get my money back. If I would have not stood my ground I'm sure they would not have resolved my issue. read more

DO NOT USE LOCAL MOTION MOVING COMPANY! When we sold our house we used this company just this past Friday February 26th, 2021. The movers were 2.5 hours late and we had to be out of the house by a certain time for the new owners to start moving in! I tried calling and leaving voice mails and emailing and I heard nothing back! My realtor called for me and they answered on her first try! They were clearly ignoring my call specifically. Their excuse for why the movers weren't showing up was because I had requested the night before that they show up 30 minutes earlier than the original agreed upon time. Somehow this got misconstrued to "let's hire an additional moving crew AND send them to some address in a city that's an hour away" when the movers showed up, they gave us two completely different reasons for why they didn't show up on time. One being that they weren't even scheduled to work until 9am and the other being that someone didn't show up for their shift. While moving out of the house they didn't put any carpet protection down so the new owner moved in with wet, dirty carpet on the stairs. They quoted me one price and their estimate wasn't even accurate which they admitted to me. They still want me to pay $1500 even though they were 2.5 hours late and we weren't even out of the property until almost 2 hours past the time we were supposed to lose possession. Also, they said it would be $69/hour per man. We only were supposed to pay for 3 men and it took 4 hours TOTAL moving out and moving into our new house. That totals to $828. Why did they charge me $1500...??? Billy was not helpful at all and we were literally arguing on the phone because even though they totally understand and agree that they are responsible for all of our troubles, they aren't doing anything to fix it. I was so disappointed with Local Motion. We were moving from an 800 sq foot Minneapolis house and was quoted a half day with 3 movers. It took these 3 men DOUBLE the time to do the move. They showed up in a UHaul truck much smaller than expected, were constantly talking about how to move boxes instead of actually moving them, couldn't figure out how to use the furniture straps. Using movers was supposed to remove stress from the moving process, but Local Motion just added more on. I spoke with Bill Apple originally and explained the size of our house, how much furniture we had, everything was boxed up and ready for them to go, AND IT STILL TOOK THEM DOUBLE THE ESTIMATE. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I would not give any stars, but it is necessary to provide a review. I used them back in February 2018. Friendly movers; however, they were moving things rather harshly and they ended up breaking several items totaling over $450. They also broke my sliding glass door handle along with taking one of my four wheel dollies to help with the move. I spent four months back and forth with e-mails until the middle of May. They would not refund one penny and gave me the run around. They never went out of their way to contact me at all. I decided to take them to conciliation court to get compensated for (a minimum) the broken door handle and missing dolly. Today was the day of the court case. I drove to the courthouse in Minneapolis and - to no one's surprise - they did not show up for the hearing. I won by default (and also the truth). As I left the quiet courtroom, the judge called me back and said sarcastically, "The judgement will be rendered through default and the proof you showed me. It's one thing to win, but it's another thing to collect." The judge and I laughed and I said, "I'll never see it!" These guys are your typical moving company. Nice upfront, but you'll never hear from them again after the move is completed. They thought I would just get bored and go away. It doesn't work that way all the time Local Motion. Hmmm. For those that are reading this review, what do you think the odds are I'll receive money from the judgement? I'm sure Local Motion is reading this and saying to themselves, "Zero!" read more

If you are planning a move in the twin cities and surrounding area, DO NOT use Local Motion Moving Company of Maple Grove, MN. We used them 4 years ago to move us from our house into a temporary apartment and they were wonderful. We referred Local motion to many people. We used Local Motion this September to move to our new Condo, this move was awful, the moving team was 3 hours late, which caused our move to be late into the condo building, and we received a large fine from the condo assn. for going past the elevator time. Now the move was only 2 blocks from our apartment. The moving team was very careless with our possessions, many of which were antiques and expensive items. Our items were just thrown into large boxes which resulted in damage. 5 of our 6 solid cherry Queen Anne Dining chairs had there finish scraped off. One tiffany lamp base broken, a Waterford lamp broken, an antique side chair leg was broken off, an antique armoire had one of the inlaid wood panels broken, a Bombay chest had the finish scraped off, our new couch of 6 months had a large grease stain plus the welting on the back was torn, a gouge in our dining table, a large chuck of wood on our side boy taken off, our new wall to wall carpet of 3 days had 5 damage areas from sliding furniture across it. We contacted Local Motion within 4 days and they sent there adjuster out, and after many calls they sent out there repair person, to look at the items. To date, as of January 12th, Local Motion, has not responded or made compensation, after many unanswered calls. Drinking on the job, unprofessional, transporting/stealing liquor is the service that we received from this moving company. We have never felt so violated and hurt from a service company. We had personalized champagne bottles with our engagement date and names stolen. A case of wine that we had sent back from Italy when we got engaged was stolen. At the end of the day the lead of the crew asked for a beer and shortly after that we noticed the case of wine was missing. The company has been lying, dodging phone calls, told us we would receive reimbursement for the items "misplaced". We have not received any money for reimbursement or apology for stealing our items that have great sentimental value. Now we are dealing with filing a police report and small claims court. read more

We had a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE with Local Motion. Local Motion caused significant damage to the items moved, charged my credit card without my authorization, charged significantly more than their estimate, and management was awful to deal with. The issues with the actual moving were numerous: (1) the crew spent more than 13 hours to move the contents of our 2000 square foot home and did not finish; they still had a half of a truck to unload at 10 p.m. (2) numerous items were broken/damaged, including our new grill and scuffed leather chairs; (3) the crew wrote "basement" in permanent marker on several plastic bins and on a handmade wooden box; (4) many items, including all of our lamps, an entire shelf of pans, wall hangings, and half the contents of our garage were left at the house we moved out of - the crew said the trucks were full and left the items for us to move ourselves; (5) numerous items were not properly packed, for example a TV sound bar was taped to kids hockey sticks and not placed in a box or otherwise protected; (6) the movers left trash in the home and spilled beverages on the floor; and (7) caused significant damage to the home we moved out of, including scuffed walls, chipped paint, damaged stair railing, hardwood floor, and door frames. Immediately after the move, I informed Local Motion that it was not authorized to charge my credit card due to the extensive damage and because move was not completed. Despite my clear instruction, Local Motion charged my card without my authorization and never informed me it did so. In the days following the move, I spent hours trying to resolve the dispute with Local Motion, only to be met with resistance from management and an unwillingness to acknowledge the many issues with our move. Ten days later, Local Motion finally agreed via email to only charge us for the amount estimated. However, when I checked my credit card statement, Local Motion had charged my card on 4 separate occasions without authorization for amounts that greatly exceeded their estimate. Local Motion refused to respond to my efforts to resolve the matter. I filed a claim with the BBB, which was unsuccessful because Local Motion refused to make any offers to resolve the dispute. I then disputed the charges with my credit card company, providing copies of the estimates, emails, and photos; after reviewing my submission, the credit card company accepted my complaint as accurate and refunded the unauthorized charges. Local Motion still has not provided any compensation for the damaged items. In sum, it was bad enough to have a terrible moving crew and have to repair and replace so many of our belongings, and it was even worse to have to deal with rude management and fight for months to get my money back. read more

2 movers (instead of the promised 3) showed up an hour late. A 3rd mover finally showed up toward the end of the loading up phase. My window to use the elevators at my new place was 2:30 to 5. We didn't get here until 7:00. Thank goodness they worked with me but very stressful and inconvenienced many others. When everything was finally unloaded, they tallied up my final bill. It was more than double what was estimated/quoted. DOUBLE. More than $900 more. How is this acceptable?!? $900 plus dollars! The only positive thing I can say about this company is that the movers themselves were nice and worked hard. But I will never use them again nor would I recommend them. read more

I would give zero stars if possible. My move was on 7/6 and gave them feedback day of my move of my dissatisfaction of my experience with pictures. At the beginning, they appeared responsive. But since then, 2 months later, I've heard nothing. I've made multiple follow up calls, and still nothing. I understand that there will be issues with any move and was ok with it. However, besides arriving late for the move, they arrived with no wardrobe boxes, after I called to confirm there would be wardrobe boxes days earlier. They then had to ask me for tools to take apart my furniture as they forgot theirs. Luckily I had what was needed or my move wouldn't have happened. They broke something (super minor) and said nothing. I heard the crash and just waited-still nothing. When I complained about it, they said they didn't realize it was broken. Not possible-it fell down a flight of stairs. On the day of my move, it was rainy-no big deal except when they moved 4 of my lamps to my new house, they were drenched and the shades now have water marks. I submitted a claim for those and have yet to hear back. Finally, they moved my items to the new house and left without unwrapping some items and putting others back together. Would never recommend based on professionalism, communication and follow through. I went with local motion based on a personal recommendation from my mortgage company and wish I didn't. Do not hire this company if you want your move to go well. Or want your movers to be responsive and responsible. read more

Because I was 7 months pregnant at the time, my husband and I decided to hire movers for an across town move. I got several quotes from moving companies within the Twin Cities, and while Local Motion wasn't the lowest price, I felt that the customer service was excellent, and they seemed willing to help me and work with me throughout the process. Unfortunately, that's where the good customer service ended. The movers showed up 2.5 hours later than the 5 hour window I was given, and despite the moving consultant, moving coordinator, and movers themselves all having my number, I was not alerted to the the change in schedule. In addition, despite me voicing my concerns several times about needing two trucks, only one was sent, and after the movers took twice as long as quoted, they were unable to complete the job because the truck was full. To finish the move, my husband and I had to rent a u-Haul and load (and later unload) it ourselves. The Quality Control Manager called me the next day and promised to "make things right" by offering to refund some of the fees incurred from the move, but 3 weeks later, I can't get a hold of him via phone or email. The moving consultant that I had worked with on the front end has done nothing to assist getting the issue resolved. The movers were 2 hours late the next day to unload, and again, took twice as long as quoted. My final bill was nearly double what I was quoted, yet somehow I still had to get a u-Haul myself to finish the move. And, like other reviewers, my card was charged before I ever saw the final invoice as to what was billed. What's most disappointing is how unhelpful and non-responsive the customer service has been, especially because that was the reason why I choose the company in the first place. We selected Local Motion as our movers because we wanted to make our move easier -- We had a 2 week old and a 20 month old. While shopping for movers, Paul our sales rep, said that they would be able to store our items in vaults (cubed boxes) and then bring those vaults to our new home for unloading. The movers who moved us out of our home did a great job. They strategically and safely packed all of our items into the vault. When it came for the movers to move us into our new home, they were over 3 hours late and did not call to notify us that they were running behind. When the movers arrived, unannounced to us, they had taken items out of the vault and threw them into an open ended truck. Due to the extra handling and lack of carefulness, it was very saddening to see how many of our items got damaged (some items even had been forgotten). When we immediately brought it up to the movers, they pointed their fingers at us and said that all our furniture was like that. After calling Local Motion, they told us we would need to file claims since we had purchased insurance with them. Each damaged item, I photographed and filled out a claim for (when there are a lot of items, it is quite the time consuming process). After I submitted the claims, they told us a timeframe of when we would be contacted. That timeframe came and went. When I contact Local Motions Claims/Quality Manager about it, he said that I needed to reach out to the vendor and kept passing it off on them. A month after filing the claim, their vendor finally came out to access the damage. They said that they needed to contact local motion to see what they wanted him to do because he was unsure if he could repair it or not. Over two weeks have now passed and the two companies keep pointing their fingers at each other, saying that they need to hear from one and another. It is beyond frustrating. I have asked to speak to managers at local motion numerous times. I get forwarded to their voicemails, leave a voicemail and I have never been called backed by one. At this point, I truly am at a lost with the entire process. We hired movers to help make our move easier. Over the past two months I have spent SOOOO much time filling out claims, calling weekly and still nothing has been resolved with our damaged items. It by far has been my worst experience with any company. read more

You cannot do better than these folks. The van arrived at my house early, the three heroes on that vehicle were gracious and funny and HARD WORKING, the move from my house to my office took far less time than we expected, and the move AT my office (four firms moved down one floor, two other firms joined us) was expeditious and impressive. The men kept a solid good humor throughout, they were undaunted by stair or other challenges, and they finished early and the bill is 25% less than we contracted for. I've never had a better BtoB experience in this business--they are that good. Bravo! read more
