Unfortunately, service was slow from the start, it took quite a while before anyone even acknowledged us, and for a while, we weren't sure who our server was. Here's what we ordered: Mango boba - surprisingly tart and could've used a bit of sweetness Peanut chicken salad - flavorful and refreshing, with noodles at the bottom Fish tacos with sweet potato fries - the beer-battered fish was crispy and delicious While the food was solid and the patio atmosphere was great, the service really impacted our experience. When we were ready to pay, it was difficult to get our server's attention. My husband eventually had to approach her across the patio, and she processed our payment while standing right there. It seemed like they were short-staffed the day we visited, which might explain the delays, but the lack of attention was still frustrating. Nice ambience especially in the outdoor area, and great for large groups looking for a laid back evening. The food was ok, and the service was friendly but not attentive enough. Food here is just alright. Fish tacos weren't bad but the fish wasn't crispy at all. The quasedilla "tortilla" was a little thick. The meat in the BBQ rice bowl was pretty good, but the ratio of rice to everything else was too high. The salad was pretty good and quite a large serving. We had A LOT of trouble flagging down our waitress, especially near the end when we were ready to pay, which was quite frustrating and the main reason I'm docking stars. However, I will say the setup outside is really nice. There are hanging plants, pretty large tables, music that's not too loud, and overall a nice vibe. The draft list is 20+ beers and a great array of appetizers and entrees. Surprising the shrimp dumplings, garlic edamame, and blackened chicken curry all hit the spot. The bartender was kind and made me this non-alcoholic spicy drink. Now about the chicken sandwich, The bun was very fresh and not soggy from the sauce. The coleslaw was very crunchy with flavor and there were lots of pickles. My only complaint about this chicken sandwich is there is no chicken if you seen the picture, there's only a small thin piece of chicken and the rest is all breading. Suggestion is to give more chicken. You are only really paying to the bread and the fluff on the sandwich. They do play awesome music and the music videos are playing on the tv at the bar. Stopped here at about 4:30 on a Saturday and was seated immediately. Service was great & waitress was considerate. The flavors of each meal were really unique to each dish ordered. The Cesar dressing was one of my favorite parts of the meal and the salad had an overall great texture. The poke bowl was very fresh and was a solid portion of food! It's a super cool restaurant, and they had a trivia night going on upstairs that seemed super fun. I had tacos, which were okay; the flavor of the meat was too rich for me. Unfortunately, the bottom of my boyfriend's burger was soaked with sauce, so he couldn't really enjoy it. I would definitely recommend this place for larger groups for small bites and drinks because they have great group deals, discounts, and fun trivia nights. Dirst visit to Calgary, we're walking down the Center street looking for grub. We fall upon the Local Public Eatery. Quick check up on Facebook and it's very well rated. in we went. Decor is like a Ranch meets Sports Bar. Warm and welcoming. Great staff with wonderful service. You can also play Jenga while you wait. * Good Burger but not mind-blowing. utilitarian. * VERY GOOD Onion rings. So much so, we had seconds. * My girlfriend had the Steak + Frite. The fries looked a little anemic but turned out great. crunchy but not dry and very flavourful. the steak was super tasty and was like butter in the mouth. * Accompanying sauces with the steak and the rings were also quite delicious. And we got to see a real life cowboy. In the end my mind wasn't blown, but it was far better than average and I would go again easy. read more

It was not crispy at all. The breading was soft. The slaw and tartar sauce were the best items from the fish n chips dish. I got the earl grey mango popping boba drink which looked interesting but it was so sweet and filled with so much ice I can barely get the paper straw to fit into the cup to stir it. Pretty good pub in the heart of Calgary. I personally LOVE their 1 mocktail drink; Spritzing Image. It's rare for places to have a nice mocktail....most will only offer Shirley Temples and pop so it's nice to have a drink alcohol free that tastes good. The chips looked like they were from a bag and the guac portion was too small. Too many left over chips. I got the pound of wings, and they were great. Went to Local for drinks on a Friday evening. I liked that the music wasn't too loud and we were able to have a conversation. I don't know if it always seat yourself but the place is big and we had no problem finding a table for our group of 6. The kitchen is on full display which is neat as not many places have it like this. I can't comment on the food as we didn't order any but they have a good variety of beers and wines. Strolling into LOCAL at about 2:30pm on a Friday, we were welcomed by the chatter of an energetic male-dominated crowd of young businesspeople getting a head start on their weekend. Some were crowding around a game of shuffleboard, others conversing loudly at their tables surrounded by the many TV's that line LOCAL's walls. After a quick tour of the premises, we seated ourselves at one of the few available tables at the back of the restaurant. The menus were already on the table, printed on worn brochure-style leaflets. Opting for the daily wine feature (a 6 oz. glass of unnamed Cab-Sauv for $8), I soon found myself sipping on a good vino and debating between LOCAL's burgers and Baja tacos. (Every day of the week has a couple of beer and wine specials, with Mondays and Tuesdays giving the best bang for your buck.) While nibbling on some delicious Spicy Edemame that my friends ordered, I decided on a couple of Baja Chicken Tacos and one Baja Fish Tacos ($4.50 each). The tacos were served on medium-sized flour tortillas with an over-abundance of shredded cabbage and a little bit of pico de gallo. The chicken and fish were both battered and fried to a crispy perfection. A side of hot sauce accompanied the tacos. On seeing my friend's cup of tortilla soup ($4), I ordered one to go with my Mexican-themed meal. The tomato-based soup was delicious, with a blend of spices giving just the right amount of kick. Though, they seemed to have skimped a bit on the amount of shredded chicken in the soup. While inhaling my delicious food, the waitress asked me if I would like another glass of wine. I shook my head and said "No, I'm okay.", but she must have heard just the "Okay", because I soon found myself with a second glass in front of me. To be fair, the restaurant was pretty loud, and I figured since it was already there, I might as well drink it. My bill came to about $38 (+ tip), including my 3-way shared appy, 3 tacos, a cup of tortilla soup, and two glasses of wine. With a positive vibe and a fantastic location, I'd say LOCAL is a great place for an after work hangout. As far as the food goes, the LOCAL chefs are quite talented, but it seems that they cut some corners in order to increase profits (e.g. lots of shredded cabbage to fill up the tacos, very little chicken in the tortilla soup).
