They were breaded and I much prefer batter-fried fish. I had never had breaded fish in the U.K. before. The fish was also smaller than others I've had and the fries were quite soggy. I suspect that this was all frozen. This was my first mediocre fish and chips meal that I had since arriving in the U.K. 3 weeks ago. It didn't really fill us up but it was satisfying enough until the next day. Seating is outdoor only and it's in a nice location to watch the world go by. It's also pretty touristy. I really won't recommend this for any meal unless you're exhausted and don't care what your food tastes like. Oban has so many options for good seafood so take the time and go elsewhere.

The interior is draped in contemporary decor, and there is scenic water views overlooking the harbor. The holiday lights set the mood. The food was delicious and the seafood was fresh. It's a very austere interior -- all glass -- but intentional for the lights out views of the working fishing harbor. Of course we had to have the oysters! They were very deep cups; meaty; and creamy, unlike any oyster I've had before. For American sensibilities, no cocktail sauce, or mignonette, which disappointed my husband, but I was fine with it. Lots of lemon is the Scottish way! We also had one of their specials, the lobster & langoustine cocktail, which, again for American sensibilities, was lobster & langoustine bits on lettuce, with a DELICIOUS rose dressing, not the meat in a martini glass with sauce.... Our dining partners had beautiful, plump mussels, which they shared and devoured; another had the open faced salmon, also scraped clean from the plate. We returned the next day for a reservation I'd made online, only to find we weren't on the list. Since reservations in Scotland are more than recommended, we asked for help from our desk agent, who said this happens at eeusk a good bit. I've been to the oban bay fish & chip shop on a few occasions but usually of peak season where you can only order to take out. It surprising that there are now three chip shops on this street and spaced not far from each other business here must be cutthroat. There is usually a specials board where you can buy a two course meal for £5.95 or in the summer £9.95 but none of the specials where fish as l expected that it would have. You can still buy good fish & chips here some of the other items on the menu l would expect have been bought in pre prepared.
