It is…read morewell paved not a bad trail to stretch your legs, run, walk, etc. However, it's along a bit of water too and the gnats are out in full force. I've never seen so many people walking while flailing their arms out in front of them to avoid eating bugs, getting bugs in their eyes, having the bugs die in their hair. It would have been comical if I wasn't flailing around, too! I definitely got home and saw that my hair line/hair had a few dead bugs in it. BUGGY. Pretty disgusting. Maybe that's seasonal and the gnats will be dead soon? If that's the case, I'd definitely consider walking along this well paved path again.

Metrocenter Levee Trailhead is one of the more basic entry points to the greenway, featuring a…read moresmall parking lot with a few benches and a staircase up to the greenway located at the end of Great Circle Road. When you enter the greenway, you can head towards nearby Ted Rhodes Golf Course via the TSU connector or towards Germantown and eventually the city. The greenway is rapidly growing and this entry point, while light on amenities, is a simple access point that puts you close to one end of the Cumberland Greenway. This greenway in full runs just over 8 miles and this access point will put you at about the 6/7 mile mark, if you were headed towards the city. For what I needed, which was a solid spot to hop on the greenway, the Levee Trailhead came in clutch. Parking, while available, is limited with only about 8 - 10 spots available. I would definitely recommend parking at the golf course, which offers a bit more in terms of parking. Overall, solid trailhead.

We always enter from the "access trail" side. It is a smaller parking lot but we like coming in from this side. Depending on what time you get there, you may have a slight wait time to park but it is usually pretty quick and efficient. We usually arrive before 8:30am and have had no problem finding a spot. There are I believe at least 2 handicap spots at this entrance. They also have bathrooms available that are always clean and kept up. At the main entrance, entering from (otter creek). There is a welcome center with information and a small gift shop. Before bringing a stroller we would always go on the trail through the park woods but now with our baby and taking a stroller we take the paved path which was just redone and is SO nice!!! Strollers and bikes are not permitted on the dirt path so keep that in mind. There is so much beauty to look at while enjoying a nice peaceful walk. Eagles, owls, deer, frogs, turtles, birds, and more creatures to look at all while visiting Radnor. It is a staple as a local to get outdoors and into fresh air. Great place to take kids or any family that is visiting or even a great place to go on a nice solo long walk.

This parking lot is smaller, but we were surprised to find a spot easily. When we left around 10:45, there was a line of about 6 cars waiting, though cars seemed to move through fairly quickly. There is a nice bathroom at the top of the parking lot. From this entrance, you can also access the trail along the lake, though strollers and dogs are not allowed on that trail. We chose the lower paved trail instead (part of the mulch trail loop). It's wide -- almost road-sized -- and newly paved the entire way. It took about 15 minutes to reach the lake, and there's plenty more paved trail beyond that. We saw frogs, ducks, turtles, deer, an owl, and even a bald eagle. My kids stayed engaged the whole time. The trail was flat and easy for stroller pushing, and my older kids rode scooters without any issues. There were lots of families, dogs, and walkers out, but it never felt overcrowded. Overall, this is a great near-the-city option for getting young kids into nature without dealing with steep terrain. The other entrance off Granny White has the visitor center and a bit more parking.

This property was a neighborhood pool in the 1940's and 1950's. Many city parks closed their pools dur to desegregation in the 1960's- it is unclear if that is why this one closed. Today, it's a beautiful, charming little park, with statuettes, benches, picnic tables, beautiful flowers, and a hidden fairy village in one of the trees. Also- unlike many local parks, this paved path is almost entirely in the shade, which makes it an especially nice little walk.

I've made friends, ran races, had full character development arcs, and I see the same deer so often that we're basically on a "head nod" basis. I've named them. They know my schedule. One of them owes me money. Honestly, Nashville Parks should either sponsor me, put my name on a bench, or issue a restraining order.

I have been making my way to all the Metro parks and Shelby Park sits high on my list right now, and for good reason! The park is well equipped with all the park staples and even a few specialty areas. I come here for the trails, as I love wandering around the park, through the woods, by the golf course and around the water. Just something about it all that makes the walks a bit more enjoyable. In addition to the trails the park offers the classic park offerings such as playgrounds, gazebos and sporting fields. The park is well kept and clean. All parks are a bit worn and dated, but it is not enough to detract from the park itself. Nashville does a good job keeping the parks in good working order, as well as clean. Overall, I am a fan of Shelby Park!
