I left L&S after 5 1/2 hours, fighting back tears, and with my hair not at all what was discussed, and I can still honestly say that it was the best customer service experience of my life. I needed a new salon and booked an appointment with Chelsea after a consultation. Very long story short: my hair had a crazy chemical reaction during a routine treatment that was not in any way Chelsea's fault. The color(s) was wild and there was a large patch in the back where half the length of my hair basically disintegrated. What Chelsea and Bekah did to save it was incredible. They were calm, direct, communicative, and apologetic (even though I can't stress enough how much I trust it wasn't her fault). I feel like they both sacrificed so much time and effort for me and I'm so grateful for what they were able to do for my hair. I'm pretty sure I dissociated through most of my visit because it was like my nightmare experience but I'm grateful it happened there. Without getting into specifics, they went well WELL above and beyond what my or any other human's expectations could be. They hooked me UP with products and services, a true class act. She was so attentive, super skilled at her craft, and just an all round awesome person and stylist. Prior to my appointment she requested some pictures through email which I appreciated since I was a new client. I waa looking for a color correction and haircut. I was going for a plum color with some darker dimensions. A hairstylist previously gave me an all over one tone cherry color which looked a bit loud-so I wanted to correct. Great vibe as soon as you enter the salon. Everyone is very friendly and the waiting area is quite comfortable. Emily was fantastic! Having been bouncing around for the last 6 months I haven't had a chance to get a proper cut and color and she turned that issue right around. Probably took a good 3 to 4 inches off my overall length and she cut some layers into it to lighten it all up. The salon is much more relaxed than the last one which makes for a better experience overall. Feelin' like a true ROCKSTAR after my appointment with Nadya at Lock & Shade. Lock & Shade has best location. Not only is it on the two best roads in Asbury Park, but everyone who works at the small businesses knows everyone and most importantly, is willing to help out which is AWESOME! I've been to Electric Tattoo and somehow had no clue the salon was right above it! I don't even want to call "Lock & Shade" a salon it is so much more than that. The vibe is so different than any other salon I've been to. An employee was setting up Christmas decorations and had a stocking for each employee, and even though I'm not the merriest during this time of year, it was really sweet to see how close of a family Lock & Shade is. Nadya has some bold, badass haircuts that I adored for a long time but I was always afraid to make the hair commitment since I try my best to be as low maintenance as possible because I love sleep more than getting ready in the morning. Another awesome stylist I follow on instagram and is a long time friend, Briana Fariella (currently at Lambs and Wolves), shared an event that was hosted by both Lambs and Wolves and Lock and Shade. All of these creative, talented women in one room made me feel left out on the fun. Not only that, but two of my good friends got amazing haircuts by Nadya so i worked up the courage to make an appointment! She was so kind and asked all the right questions to slay my hair. She was so down to earth and had some good conversations. She truly has such a talent and so much creativity! One thing she did that not many other stylist have done was take the time to teach me how to style my hair at home. My hair lasts so long and look so good even on day 3/4 thanks to her techniques!! Nadya is a FIERCE colorist with an aptitude for the most beautiful cuts. I have been a client of Nadya's for over 4 years and 2 salons. I genuinely look forward to the time in her chair for her kind, gentle demeanor and attention to detail. I've had quite the hair journey over the past few years with everything from from short and dark to long and lavender. Nadya has creatively guided me in the process while maintaining the health and length of my hair at all times. She genuinely listens to her clients and I think her beautiful work speaks for itself. Lock and Shade is a beautiful home for creative talent and as soon as you walk in the kind, chill reception automatically make you feel ease. I really enjoy the product line they use and my hair smells amazing every time I leave. The salon is incredibly clean and the aesthetic is hip and chic. In June of 2019 I got married at the Berkeley oceanfront hotel and had the Lock & Shade tribe do mine and my crews hair & makeup. I knew I wanted to be at a location (not in my hotel room) getting ready the morning of, so when I walked up to Lock & Shade for a consultation I was IN LOVE. They have a beautiful courtyard with tables and chairs outside their doors, and the set up inside was dreamy. I knew capturing pictures would be nothing short of amazing & my photographer would love the space. Also it gave my crew room to walk around, sit outside & eat, have cocktails, and people to come and go as they please. I couldn't have asked for anyone better to do my hair than Bianca. During my trial she listened to what I wanted, and gave me exactly that. *Literally, went in the other room & gave me a pony tail hair extension piece to add to the Cinderella bun I wanted*. Once I confirmed who was getting what they wrote out a timeline for me so I didn't have to. They made my morning as easy as possible and I loved that about them.
