I had to get some keys cut for work and I had driven by Lock Surgeon many times but never stopped in. Lock Surgeon was closer to my work than the hardware stores so I thought I would try them. I needed seven keys cut total. I needed two different styles of keys cut. I brought in the samples keys and waited while they cut they keys. I did not have to wait too long before the keys were ready. The staff that helped me was friendly and courteous. The best part is when I tired the keys they all worked. We had keys cut previously at another business previously and not all the keys worked. I would get keys cut here again because they seem to have a huge selection of nonstandard keys. read more

Don't use them. Paid $537.33 to get a new back door lock installed. Month's later, had to wiggle the door to unlock. Called Lock Surgeon and was told we only had a 1 month warranty. That the house probably shifted and I would need to pay a $130 service fee for the technician to come take a look. Price more than 3 time other locksmiths. I asked for a key to be cut, I had the blank, required the laser type of cut typical on newer cars, they said it would cost $160. I said that was to much and left. I checked with another supplier in Edmonton and they quoted $50. I went to Fozier's and they did it while I waited and it worked fine. Pleasant enough technicians, but so overpriced and terrible warranty. We had a paddle door handle on our office door for 10 years that the tech tried to fix but could not. We paid $800 for a new paddle handle, key set and for him to fix up the door frame so the door closed properly. Not 2 months later, I got locked in my office and could not open the door! (had to get out by logging into our security system and unlocking the door through the software) I called to have someone come repair the next day and the next tech discovered that a set screw in the paddle handle had come loose. (10 second fix after disassembling the handle to determine the issue). I was charged $400 for this fix!!! No negotiation or absorption of ANY of the call out fee, shop supplies (a screwdriver and a dab of glue...$25!!). Too bad. They've gotten all the $ out of me that they will ever get. On July 9/24 lock surgeon showed up at my Castletown's home to change a coded door lock that wasn't working properly, so I thought that was the problem. I knew ahead of time it would be a $145.00 service call which I had no issue with. Justin the service rep checked things out and said it was my hinges that needed replaced as the door was out of line. Having a service truck there I assumed he would have the 3 hinges required. In his truck he had one hinge, and he wanted $30.00 for each hinge, and wanted $125.00 to go back and get the other 2 hinges. To replace the hinges and go retrieve the ones that should have been in the truck plus the service call the total bill would have been $722.00 for 3 hinges. At these ridiculous prices the rep must have really been a SURGEON. I had a friend of mine who is pretty handy come and take a look, and he spent 30-45 minutes fixing the door after I went to Nelson Lumber and picked up 4 hinges (came in 2 per package) and paid $28.00 for the 4 hinges. I have no idea how this company stays in business when I'm sure they only get one chance for service work. No one in their right mind would ever call them back again. Hopefully this review saves you wasting your time calling Lock Surgeons and save you a $145.00 service call just to piss you off. This was the most exploitive service I have ever had! Lock surgeon charged me $475 to replace a door knob and give me a key.$The $135 fee to show up was unavoidable, I had to use a locksmith to get into my garage as the old door knob was attached to a nonworking security service. However! It was simply a matter of taking off the door knob, and putting on a working door knob. They responded to my review by saying I should be ashamed to ask a journeyman locksmith to show up and do a job for almost nothing. $475 is almost nothing? Shame on you Lock Surgeons!! read more

Avoid this business and take your hard earned money elsewhere. If you need a chipped key for your vehicle, go to the dealership instead! In support of local businesses, my husband and I decided to use Lock Surgeon (without seeing any of the reviews or doing research before deciding to do business with them). We needed a second key for an older vehicle (no other place such as HomeDepot, Lowes or Part Source could make). Lock Surgeon told us due to it having a chip that needs to be programmed with the cutting of the key it would cost us $148.00 (before tax). After just finding a place that could actually make the key, we agreed. Later, it was told to us by a family member, dealerships can make vehicle keys. We did not know that until after the key was made and paid for. Dealerships tend to be more expensive but we called for a quote out of curiosity. The same key with a chip and programmed was quoted for $82.95 (before tax). We were surprised with the large price hike from Lock Surgeon. We know small businesses pricing tends to be higher than the larger companies in order to survive but this was almost double the price! This was not an emergency call out nor any of their service technicians arrived at our home. The price was just the key made and programmed at their West location. Noticing on the invoice receipt, they had a statement stating, "All returns are subject to a 20% restocking fee". There was no fine print stating any exclusions or specifics of what can or cannot be returned. We felt we had a chance of getting some of our money back, getting the key made at the dealership with money left over. Calling the west end company at 730am, explaining what we had just found out, the dispatcher just took my name and said a technician would call me back. No call back. So I called. Spoke with a technician who already sounded irate after I talked about returning the key and reminded him of the "All returns..." statement on the invoice, he just went on saying, 'What am I going to do with the key?, it's made and programmed'. I finally just let that go. I began to remind him that the pricing is almost double the price than if it was made at the dealership. As a gesture of good faith, I asked if they would be able to match the price as to be comparable as the dealership somehow? He stood on the fact that the owners are quite firm in the their pricing, basically there was nothing I could do or say to change his or the owners mind. All this time, his tone and voice was rude and obnoxious. So, I just said, " Well, you will be seeing another bad review on Google" and hung up. My husband called, left his name and number to have one of the owners to call him back. There was no call back and we had waited a few days already. And now I decided to start writing my review today. Lock Surgeon at the West Edmonton location is rated the LOWEST and has the MOST reviews from any other locksmith in the city on Google Reviews. With low ratings in Yelp as well. Their second location in the city is rated the second lowest. I attempted to discuss job specifics prior to booking. I was assured by carry a wide variety of products and the staff didn't seem interested in continuing the conversation. Of course when they arrived they didn't have the materials needed. One door would need custom parts. The other lock would need a trip back to the store to get a better color match with extra travel time charged to me. He had ordered a black deadbolt to match our new black hardware. The person who came to change our locks was very kind and professional. However, Two major CONS to Lock Surgeon is the locks themselves, AND their poor customer service in handling telephone inquires. THIS IS MAJOR: LOCK SURGEON HAS SPECIAL KEYS You cannot get your keys cut anywhere else anymore for $2, you need to go to lock surgeon and pay their jacked up prices for keys. They tell you that this is an "extra security measure", but lets be real - THE KEYS SAY LOCK SURGEON ON THEM. Anyone could take one look at the key and take it to Lock Surgeon. It's not really an extra security measure that someone could take one look at a key that says Lock Surgeon on it and take it to Lock Surgeon to get it cut. Not exactly an extra security measure, just a way to ensure that people keep coming to Lock Smith to pay thousands of dollars for these keys. I now have to drive out of the way to get my keys cut. NO ONE told me that their keys could not be cut anywhere else, I would have reconsidered using this company had I known it was going to be such an ordeal to get a key cut. Secondly, whoever answered my questions on the phone was seriously STUNNED. She had no idea that she worked for Lock Surgeon because she had zero answers for me other than "Well we are closed right now I can't help you!" I wasn't planning on coming in, I just wanted a few answers to my questions. Just so unhelpful. So would I recommend using Lock Surgeon? I have to find their invoice which I will have in my company records but it's ridiculous they can't look it up in their system. Price gouging, was presented a $695.00 dollar invoice on a $64.00 dollar part that I had taken out and the tech installed in 5 minutes as it was two Robinson head screws to install and then he thought the outside window latch needed adjusting and I had to show him the operation of it and it didn't need any adjusting. Just had 3 keys cut. 47.09...... Ridiculous could have had done anywhere else for less than half that price. Didn't even mention the price just grabbed the key from me cut the new keys and said the price like it was nothing. I have used the for a door service inspection as well, charge 400.00 for nothing more than a visual inspection which took less than 40 minutes.
