I called on Lock Surgeon to replace a door knob and lock on my garage door. They did not advise me of their $149 service charge, nor did they credit it toward the work done, which is a common business practice. I was charged for 1.5 hours of labour and travel even though the technician took less than one hour to travel to and from his shop to get a part and install the doorknob and lock. I ended up paying about $475 for 1.25 hours of travel and work, including the initial 15 minutes it took the technician to drive to my house. This was a massive overcharge for a simple job. I recommend avoiding Lock Surgeon unless you have deep pockets. read more

The woman worker in the Lock Surgeon made 6 keys for our apartment business at approximate $30 each. All 6 do not work. When I brought back to its shop 178 St and 118 Ave. to complain, she and another male worker refused to admit it was their fault, and attempted to say that it was our problem, due to our locks. However, the locks were made by the locksmith too due to "patent". I was extremely annoyed by such non logic explanation. A worker man of the shop roughly, apparently unlawfully pushed me, a senior citizen, Alberta corporation director, out the store. I had never had such experience. It represents sever damage to us as we had several locks/cylinders, a few dozen of keys are tied to this locksmith due to "patent" for many years. Liability, justice, and change will be pursued. read more

I wish I had read the other reviews here before I used Lock Surgeons but on their website it shows that they won the Consumer's Choice Awards and so I thought they must be great. I had them come to rekey locks in our new house and also I wanted them to install a keyless lock (touchcode lock) in one of our doors. For keyless locks, they use only the KABA Simplex brand which they charged me $545 (for parts) and told me it is expensive because it is all metal parts, no cheap plastic and is completely mechanical so no chance of batteries dying. This place is a complete rip off and their staff is condescending to women. This is the first negative review I have ever made about anything online and it's because I really think people should be aware of what they might be getting into if they choose this company. They charged me full price for a new door handle that was missing parts. He went and found a piece in his van that would work. When I questioned him about charging full price for a product that was defective I was treated like i was an idiot for even asking. He raised his voice and became very irritated when I questioned him. $380 to replace a door handle on my front door. Took 20 minutes and was told it's a mandatory 1 hour charge for service time no matter how long it takes. Also $150 mandatory charge just to come out. Last year I had emergency service plumbers from a reputable company come to my house on a Saturday evening and replace the motor in my sump pump for $20 more than that. It was supposed to be cut from code since the vehicle wasn't there. I was assured by the guy who cut it " he was pretty good at it" and if it didn't fit he'd correct the problem. Unfortunately pretty close doesn't work with keys and his useless attempt could only get half way in. I removed the lock and took it in thinking they would rectify the problem since they'd already been paid for it. No such luck, these crooks want you to keep paying until they get it right. Will not be using the Edmonton office again. - Incomplete quote provided for required work. Missed the $89.99 onsite service fee and didn't quote us for the installation of the new door lock and - Unprofessional onsite service. The installer informed us that the hardware we provided was "crap". Had to pick a lock on the rear of the home despite being provided with a working key (another $25 charge). - Combative and defensive manager when called to follow up on difference between initial quote and completed work. I asked if someone could come out and give me a quote on a job, the lady (I'm being polite about being a lady) on the phone said sure she had someone in the area... he gave me a quote alright for a very very high amount then proceeded to hand me a Invoice for $131.25 for guy to write me the quote! Our non profit hired Locksurgeon. The work progress was inefficient. After a bill of $1070 with very little progress, we did the job ourselves. Requests for compensation were futile; only this nice note: "Thank you for your business. However, we understand that our pricing structure is not in line with the operations of your company, and we will be removing you from our customer list". Charged my card without authorization, hung up on twice from their dispatch team. No response or care to follow up, refuses to give the name of a manager, owner or even someone who might listen. $900 to change a door latch!! 1 hour of a tech onsite, quoted their hourly rate and ended up with a $900.00 charge on my visa with no explanation, invoice, quote or signed authorization. Was very disappointed with the service I received. I brought a Mack key to get cut. They had none in stock so they used a key that was identical. After trying it out, it did not work. Went back to store on 178st and advised. I said I can go next door to get some Mack blanks. Patrick said wrong blanks were used and did again and at same time he was blowing his own horn as the 1st guy (owner I think) didn't know what he was doing. I went back to my shop and again keys didn't work. I then went to Mack to get the proper blanks for Lock Surgeon to cut properly. Lock surgeon said they wouldn't do for free even though I had the receipt and the mis-cut keys. For the past 3 years, I have brought all my business to Lock Surgeon but this has left a sour taste. I am almost at a loss for words how disgusted I am with how I have been treated at the Lock Surgeon Edmonton I was quoted one estimated price and charged FAR MORE than double. I was told there would be a $95 service charge, my unit would be $150 or so, I was also told my installer would show me different units. I figured I'd be paying somewhere around $300 I was shown nothing. I was presented with a bill of $628.95. Josh the manager didn't care that I had 5 quotes for the EXACT same product. He wouldn't take my calls even though he assured me he'd get back to me. I had to go down to their location and deal with them face to face. The owner doesn't seem to care whether or not he has customers he said "I can run my business how I like and charge what I like" I have been in sales my entire career and never have I been treated so terribly. If you decide to do business with these crooks I would get a quote in writing because their word means nothing. Edmonton Lock and Safe would be a better choice!! Actually any Lock Installation Company would be better. Also, I do regret not reading the reviews on both Google Yelp and BBB as it would seem I am not alone in my experience. As I called other Lock Installation Companies in the City and they gave me quotes they expressed how they hear complaints about Lock Surgeon on a daily basis. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY AND THEIR HIDDEN FEES! Door Surgeon was contacted to provide a quote for a condo located at Axxess Summerwood in Sherwood Park, AB. The condo board has issued a mandatory repair of all units with damaged garage doors. I contacted Door Surgeons and set up an appointment. The 2 gentlemen showed up and provided a quote of $2,600.00 plus gst for the single car garage door to be repaired. Understanding this was an unresasonable quote, they were advised they would not be getting the job. At that time they demanded a service call fee of $99.00 plus gst. Which was NEVER mentioned on their website or at time of appointment booking. When I contacted Door Surgeon to have money returned as I was NEVER told of the service call fee, she advised IT IS THE CONSUMERS RESPONSIBILITY TO ASK IF THERE ARE FEES; therefore, would NOT refund the service call fee. Terrible company practices and conducts themselves unethically and unprofessionally. Which in my opinion does not follow the Competition Bureau, as stated below. I too wish I had read the reviews online. I called for information on repairing my storm door vs. getting a new one. I explained on the phone what was wrong but I wasn't sure what could or should be done. The woman happily offered for Lock Surgeon to come out and do an assessment and give me a quote for the work. They sent a tech, he looked at my door for 5 minutes, went and sat in his truck and came back with an invoice for $167.40 which stated my storm door was beyond repair and must be replaced. That's what I got for $167.40 and 5 minutes, "can't be repaired". They did provide a quote for a new storm door for $1,359.75. No cost breakdown for materials or labour. Very poor service. I bought a $39 pad lock from them, and when I bought it, the salesperson said that I would get a free rekey, well for that price, that makes sense. I finally had time to go to that end of the city, when they were open, and the Owner ignored what I was told, and said it will be half price! He didn't care at all, he just walked away, and told someone else to do the work. I was debating on leaving at that moment, but I was there, and I wanted it done. I went to their location 17812 118 Ave in Edmonton. I brought a quad key in to be cut and eben brought two blanks that I previously purchased to use. The fellow took my keys while more intent in talking to someone in the back then to tell me how much this would cost me. He came back and at first tried charging me 14.95 a key to cut it. Upon challenging him on the price, he said oh ya, we give a 1.00 discount for those that bring in their own key. I asked him if they supplied the blanks what the price would be. I was told it would be the same. Now I sat on this frustration and finally called in because it was not making any sense to me. I talked to someone who at first identified themselves as dispatch to me. She was rude and said they go to school to learn their job so that justified paying more for my keys. She became offended and curt when I said I could get the same service at a fraction of the cost at Canadian Tire. She became very cold and said again that they are lock smiths and that is what they charge. So Buyer Beware, 13.95 a key to cut, that is ridicules. What a rip off when you think as such professionals, I would have received better service and someone who would at least tell me what the cost was prior to cutting my blanks so I could decide if I wanted these high end professionals cutting my keys. I had the most horrible experience with this company. The person who showed up to our house was very unprofessional. Had no clue what he was doing. Did not provide us with any knowledgeable answers to any of our questions. He was in fact telling us how surprised people have been once he told them how much the company charges for the materials which are readily available at Home Depot. He spend about 20 mins at our house and would not even provide us with a quote. He was quick to charge us for the $89 that they wanted for the house call. Told us that he will send me a professionally prepared quote the next day. Instead this is what I got from him via email the next day: "As discussed, here is a quote for the door and frame replacement as well as the window bars and bolt buddy install. Just so you are aware, it is our company policy that once a quote is accepted, My boss and myself will come back out to do a quick remeasure of your doorway just to be sure I haven't overlooked something. This process does save us all time and money, but it means that an exact price for your door won't be available until you have accepted the quote, we have done the remeasure and placed the order with our supplier. The pricing to follow is as accurate as it can be at this time and the final price once ordered should still be fairly close to the quoted price. This quote covers the removal and disposal of your existing door and frame at the rear entrance of your house, as well as the removal and re-installation of your existing screen door. It covers the supply and install of a new door and frame with sunburst window at the rear entrance, also the supply and install of 2 Bolt Buddies on the front and rear entrances. Will never use they're services again, I will pay some else full price to change all my locks before I ever give them a dime to fix the work they messed up! Worst value for service ever. I was charged $459 for installation of a garage door lock that I should have purchased at Home Depot for $17. Lock Surgeon charged $90 for the part, $149 just for showing up and nearly $300 for "labour". When I called customer service to address this, they advised that they would not give me the names of ANYONE in charge (despite the fact that they are a corporation) and that I had to voice my complaint on-line. Yesterday they email me a form letter which explains that their egregious charges are to cover their vehicles, insurance, staff overhead etc etc. They closed the letter off demanding payment threatening a collection agency when I had paid for the darned "service" the day the work was done. Engage this firm at your financial peril. Avoid these guys .Worst experience ever. read more

I was experiencing problems with my ignition. The key would seize up intermittently. Eventually the key seized and I could not start my vehicle. I had my car towed to Lock Surgeons to address this issue. They code cut me a new key and advised that the problem was solved. Not so. Three days later the key seized again. I managed to get the key to finally turn and drove back to Lock Surgeons. They played with the key and did some additional machining to the new key and told me, once again that the problem was solved. While the Shop Tech was working on my key and ignition I entered into a conversation with the Store Manager and actually filled out a service request form to have my car brought in Monday to repair/replace the ignition. The Manager explained to me that the ignition would need to be removed and repaired(rebuilt) or replaced as the next step. I asked him what this type of service would cost and he advised me at that time that he estimated the cost would be in the $150 - $250 range. The Service Tech was confident that the issue was now fixed for good so we cancelled the service order for Monday. Well, guess what, problem was not solved. The ignition seized up on me the next day in a parking lot. I contacted the Service Tech late Saturday afternoon and scheduled an appointment for first thing Monday morning. During our conversation, the Service Tech told me that he had never removed an ignition from my make and model of car and that he quickly you-tubed the process and advised that the lower section of the dash would need to be removed to do the work. Stupid me, I figured that the Store Manager knew this when he gave me the potential price range the day before. Imagine my shock when I went to pick up my vehicle on Monday afternoon and was advised that the bill was $650.00 I just about had a heart attack. My vehicle is an old winter-beater that I paid $700 for. I told the Tech this and he said he would contact his Manager to see if anything could be done about the price. Apparantly he managed to speak to his Manager and came back with the new and improved price of $595.00 - whoopy do. After pleading my case and identifying that 6 hours seemed like an extraordinarily long time to remove and replace the portion of dash and fix the ignition, as well as telling him what the Manager had indicated as the cost range, he replied that the Manager had no idea how much work it was to remove and replace the dash. I found this statement rather strange, that the Store Manager would not have an appreciation for the amount of work required to remove and replace part of the dash. Now really, would any reasonable person anticipate a time of 6 hours? I've had entire transmissions replaced in less than 6 hours. I then requested that he call his Manager on his cell phone so that I could talk to him. He advised me that he tried two times but was not getting an answer. I was getting frustrated and requested once again that he try to get ahold of the Manager so that I could speak to him. Again I was advised that he was not picking up. I found this a little tough to believe, seeing as he picked up and revised the price 2 minutes earlier but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. The Service Tech could not offer any other solution to our impass so I reluctantly (stupid me) paid for the repairs and left. On the way home I contacted a shop that deals in interior vehicle work and who regularly remove and replace dashboards. They advised me that the worst case scenario would be 1.5 hours to disassemble and 1.5 hours to re assemble the dash - and that that was being very generous on the time required to do the work. I strongly suspect that I paid for the Service Tech's training curve - learning how to remove and replace a part of my dash. I should have been charged for probably something less than three hours of labour, in fact lets be generous and give him the benefit of doubt and say 4 hours of work (at the very most worst case). My dissatisfaction with this Business can be classified as "Extremely Dissatisfied". My advice, go somewhere else, avoid this place at all costs. read more

I would never use this company. Not worth one star. Called them to repair a commercial door. They charged over $700 for the repair, but we needed it done. Repair lasted a couple of days and when they came back to check it, their comment was that sorry, no Lock Surgeon's problem. I then called another locksmith. They removed all the parts installed by Lock Surgeon and replaced everything for $400! Now Lock Surgeon is trying to charge me for another service charge for checking their own work. Today, the technician showed up with a new lock (which I did not ask for)in his hands; then he presented a bill for $133 as service call fee that they normally charge but nobody from their office mentioned that to me when I called them. Then I made another phone call to their office in Edmonton and Rita (Office's manager) very rudely said that it's was my fault for not asking if the charge a fee for a home visit. Needed desk unlocked and new keys. When I booked I asked for a quote. Was told 125$ for service call, plus the cost of keys ( I thought that was a lot, probably $150 , but decided to proceed). David came on time and was very efficient. Less than 5 minutes to pick and remove lock and about 10 minutes to make keys and reinstall lock. No mention that he charges over 1000$ per hour! I say this price because he charged me $125 for the picking of the lock and another 125$ for the keys and reinstalling. Then there was a 5% "shop supply" fee.. I was shocked to get a bill for 413$ for 20 minutes work. I called the office to express my concern that I had not been forwarned and Rita said that she was not allowed to give an accurate estimate, that the price is reasonable given that locksmiths have 4 years of university training (really?) and the manager would be unavailable to discuss my concerns for at least a week. I learned a big lesson here and would hope that no one else gets scammed by this company. read more
