I decided to change my review because in retrospect, Gary did try to help us as much as he could and he knew how to work with our very old Baldwin lock. On day 1, he really tried to repair the old lock but ended up having to replace it with new parts. We paid $650 for parts and $200 for labor. We were already way over budget at that point. On day 2, he brought the faceplate and saw our shock when he told us the price. He decided to charge the faceplate at cost ($400) and no labor fee for which we are thankful. It took us a while to decide what to do because we had to understand what our options were at that point and how to pay for it with our limited resources. We now have a shiny new lock with missing screws and no warranty. In my opinion, there could have been better communication both ways from the onset and all the way through- what could be done, how much everything was going to cost and what we expected to spend. We would been happier having the lock replaced with a cheaper one or defer the work until we have more funds but I didn't know how much everything will cost and I didn't tell Gary our budget either. Lessons learned: Always have options and costs clearly explained at the onset, give your budget, and buy the parts yourself for returns and warranties. . read more
