    Mushroom melt
    Diana S.

Good expectations confirmed!!! This place has an attractive personality, which may influence in the fact of interesting people hanging out there. The smell of good coffee instantaneously set me in a good mood. We were lucky to find an empty table, there was a constant affluence of people, even a small line up. They had backed goods, attractive paninis, coffee to go... I ordered a capuchino and a mushroom with cheese panini. The coffee was picture perfect, as the smell dictated, the flavour was remarkable. The panini was big, crispy, with arugula and tomato as well, I liked it. My friend ordered a double espresso and the egg sandwich. My friend is very picky, so seen the approbation face while sipping and chewing made me confirm that the place rocks, the bite I had of those creamy eggs made me kind of jealous tho. Funny fact is that laptops are forbidden (just in the back area where the benches are). Cool thing, a woman on the side was working while hand writing a lot... She made me want to start writing again so I improve that horrible letter of mine.

Definitely give it a 4.5 It's super cute and a nice place to meet with a friend or get work done. Not much to each on them menu, but the drinks are good. Sweet service and free wifi. :)

    Iced almond milk Chai latte
    Kristie W.

I love the location of this place, nestled away from the traffic! I would recommend the iced Chai Latte. I got mine with almond milk and it was refreshing! It would have been even better with a bit more bold and spicy. It's a nice, relaxing place to read or catch up with a friend (or yourself) except the occasional time when 90's punk pop is blasting. The also sell some pretty fantastic merchandise, including those colourful reusable keepcups.

My boyfriend is an avid coffee drinker so when he heard about a new coffee place opening up in downtown London, we had to check it out. While I'm more of a hot chocolate kind of girl I'm down for enjoying a warm treat on this extra chilly day. First off it is a plus to see that this place has parking. While limited, there were many open spots on the street. Inside has quite a few spaces to sit but it did fill up quickly. Free wifi of course. The decor was really nice with train sets and suitcase-shelves along the back wall. Their prices are very affordable. I'm used to paying at least $4.00 for a hot chocolate. In this case, it was only about $2.00. The woman behind the counter was very knowledgable about the two espressos they had available that day, giving a great description of the different notes and flavours. When my hot chocolate arrived it looked beautiful and it tasted just as good. While not as sugary as most hot chocolates, the thick creamy texture was wonderful. My boyfriend drank an Americano and enjoyed the flavour. He would come here again for the coffee. They have a few different sandwich options, soup of the day, a toast bar with different butters and jams, and lots of chocolate. They have bags of Pilot Coffee for purchase and various teas. I did notice they had for sale the Aeropress. My boyfriend uses this contraption to make the best at-home cup of coffee he's ever tasted and this is the ONLY place he has seen it for sale offline. This place knows their coffee and all that goes with it. I will definitely be visiting again soon. If I worked downtown, I would be making my coffee runs down the tracks to Locomotive Express. Choo choo!

Always excellent well trained Baristas and it shows. They are masters of the latte! They use Pilot coffee which is one of the better artisanal coffees sold in London. Very busy! Extra thumbs up for the Toast Bar! Note: they only take cash or credit card

Small coffee. $2.50 each (ordered 2)

TLDR: They charge you more than they say. Forced tip. Good coffee. It's a super cute place but man what an uncomfortable experience. I went to buy 2 very small coffees and they were $2.50 each. Personally I thought was pricey for the size, but anyways, it's a Square purchase set up and before I went to pay/tap the square, the staff quickly puts an iPad in front of your face to select a tip option. I found this very forward/forced. I had no intentions of tipping as I was only ordering the 2 coffees then walking out.. but having that quickly flashed in my face I felt so weird, I felt like I had to tip. So I tipped $1, so my order SHOULD HAVE BEEN a total of $6. My capital one app notifies me after every purchase and right as I walked out notification came through that my $9.25 purchase at locomotive espresso was approved.... Decent coffee, but not for that outrageous, hidden price.

This place is incredibly busy. It was quite difficult to find a table here. The coffee shop is great for groups and has a great atmosphere. It is out of the way from the downtown core, just in case you wanted some place away from bustle of downtown London. I've been meaning to come for a long time. I'll definitely return again.

    Cappuccino

Stopped in here the other day for a cappuccino and a ginger molasses cookie. The coffee itself is amazing! The prices are higher than some other places and the coffees we ordered were small so I guess value for money isn't fantastic. But they use great beans so..! There are quite a few places to sit but it seemed quite loud. A good place to grab and go but maybe not stay for long.

I really love this place. It has a hipster-ish vibe and is great for doing homework. Everyone is welcome, even if I am the only one without an apple laptop lol. My only complaint, and it bugs me, is the prices and portion sizes. It's just crazy. Tiny little cappuccino and tiny sandwiches for way to much money. If I was rich I'd go every day. I really dislike places like Starbucks and anytime I can support small business I do. But it's hard when they charge so much. The food is absolutely delicious btw. They don't have much, it's just a cafe, but what they do have is definitely good. I'm not talking about the coffee, I haven't tried it but I'm sure it's good ($2.00+tax). I usually get a cappuccino which is in a tiny cup which they say is traditional but I've been to Italy and I never drank cappuccino out of a tiny cup there (espresso or coffee yes) . But regardless of traditional or not, for over $4+ with tax it better be huge. I love you locomotive Espresso, I do. And I'll continue to stop in now and then. I wish it could be more but I'd be broke in no time. It's kind of funny, considering some of the staff look homeless haha. I'm kidding. They r lovely. And make cool pictures in my cappuccino. :-) Also, just an FYI to anyone with little ones, I've seen tons of people bring their babies and kids here. It's really cute and so far no screaming ones! It's great.

    Mmm...coffee.

As an avid coffee drinker, I can be very particular on what kind of coffee I like, and how I like it. I've been to Locomotive Espresso a few times now, and every time I've been; the coffee's been excellent, smooth, and delicious, and the café itself gives you a place to read, study and some visuals around the ceiling with their trains and luggages on the walls. I'm usually a black coffee drinker, but on occasion, I've had the latte and it's sweet, delicious and the latte art is impeccable. The price is also reasonable, when you expect to pay at least $3 or more for a coffee and/or a latte at other locations. If you're driving, the parking spaces are minimal due to the small parking lot, but there is street parking available if you're driving. If you live downtown, it's a quick walk down the street. A wonderful, local coffee place to enjoy the company of your friends, family and of course, coffee!

During our holiday visit to London, our family recommended the Happiness Café. So one rainy…read moreafternoon we parked across the street hopped over some road construction and blew thru the doors. The first impression of décor and display, it is clean, intentional, thoughtful and cozy. We perused the menu and I decided on the fig and cheese croissant, accompanied by an espresso martini. We found our seats at a table and I could not take my eyes off the artistic desserts on display. One in particular was a tree ornament, made of cake, it was shiny and beautiful, almost too pretty too eat. Almost. My only regret is that I didn't enjoy one, but I was too full after lunch. Our meals were delivered to our table and even though I wasn't very hungry when we arrived, the look and smell of the food fueled my appetite. My croissant creation was filled with fresh ingredients and the decadent combination of savory and sweet hit the spot. The espresso martini was wonderful, even my picky husband liked it. To our delight, we had the opportunity to meet the owners, a husband and wife team. Both very stylish, with warm smiles and welcoming conversation. The wife is the pastry chef, I had to wonder if she ever had time to sleep considering the array of beautiful desserts on display and what it must take to perfect them, individually. We look forward to returning on our next visit to London hopefully during the warmer months to enjoy their patio, and THIS time, dessert first! And maybe second! Now that we are back home in Los Angeles, I find myself wishing we had a Happiness Café. I was in Beverly Hills yesterday at the Rodeo Collection and I visited a café with hopes that it might compare, but it was missing the warmth and artistry of Happiness Café.

It's in the Old East Village, past Adelaide St, and they're really revitalizing this area and I think it's wonderful, this establishment is located in an old warehouse, which was turned into Fire Roasted and the Old East Grocer. I came this afternoon for a Yelp event and I brought my mom. We parked in the back, since there wasn't any parking on the road, which was fine, you just have to pay to park. We walked into the place and Fire Roasted is on the left and the grocers is straight ahead. Smaller café, but there were plenty of tables and chairs available for our small event! I had ordered two small coffees for my mother and myself and we tried the bagel bombs they had, jalapeno, and garlic & bacon, both of which were delicious. I believe all the food items are outsourced, but they are delicious nonetheless. The actual Roasting plant is in the back of the building, I took a walk down to see what it looked like, and it was really interesting to see how they do it. This is such a unique building, and how they've renovated it to help revitalize the whole east end is amazing, bringing in the local business to help this area thrive again. I'll definitely be sure to come back, the ambience is wonderful, and the coffee is delicious.

I started off with a kyoto fog, which was a matcha green tea, while my boyfriend got a mocha macchiato. We came here to study, but the tables are quite tiny, so we ended up moving to a long table against the wall for some more room. There is free wifi as well, so feel free to ask for that. All the employees are extremely kind. The place stayed pretty busy throughout lunch hours. We ended up ordering crepes as a snack. The batter is a little crispier than I'm used to, and I would've loved to see some savoury options, but the banana crepe was delicious with triple chocolate and peanut butter ice cream and a generous amount of whip cream. Now that they've changed over to a cafe style themselves and since I was watching a friend's cats in the neighbourhood it was the perfect excuse to pop on in. The narrow space is lined on one side with a wooden counter and a row of stools while the other has shelves lined with ready to go packaged tea in what seems like an endless variety. The narrow space reminded me strangely of record stores of yesteryear. Yes, I'm aware vinyl is back and trendy once more but this is something only us old folks will likely get a vibe of. Anyways I knew that I wanted a black tea as that was the variety that I was currently out of stock at home. With a taste profile in mind I was greeted shortly after entering and told the young woman what I was looking for, she introduced me to a few I hadn't had before but once she hit me with the maple I was sold! It was exactly the thing I was looking for. She also informed me they made a gelato out of it. Umm...what? HELLO!! So of course I had to get that too and let me tell you I could have cried it was that good! I took my purchases to go as well as a lovely Iced Thai tea, for those who have never had it you must like a strong black tea flavour to fully enjoy it (which I do!) Guess my only con was while trying to enjoy my gelato on their patio before heading off I was sort of sketched out by some of surrounding going-ons (so not their fault!). That said it was still worth the visit and I will be back to try the crepes which several people were ordering as I was there and looked amazing... I'll reserve the last star for that to see if they are as good as they looked.
