This is a tough one. Ambiance-5. Beautiful restaurant with high ceilings. Food- 4. Wonderful bread course, lamb was delicious and chocolate dessert beautiful and delicious. Brussels sprouts were roasted and served with feta cheese on top, really nice. The accompaniments with the lamb, including a duck bolognese, didn't seem to go well (to my palate). I did not care for the flavor of the signature ravioli, almost a sour or tart taste. Service-1. Incredibly slooowwwww. There were plenty of servers but meal dragged on unnecessarily. At this price point, service has to match the food and ambiance - it did not. read more

What an incredible experience at Logan Brown's. We dined here on Valentine's Day with some dear friends. The service was incredible from start to finish. The wine suggestions were top notch and the food was some of the best we've ever had. It was a set menu that night, before dessert we asked our server if we could take a walk around Cuba Street. Everyone was super gracious and thought our digestive walk was a good idea. We might be memorable. ;-) We traveled all through New Zealand and Logan Brown was our favorite place. read more

I actually really like this restaurant, some of their dishes are amazing (especially the Paua ravioli) and the settings are classic. However their service was a let-down. I absolutely agree with the previous review in May that their waitresses were disastrous. The girl who waited the upstairs area seemed she couldn't care less about the patrons and came across cold and distant. The dishes were simply dropped at our table with no explanation and some of our clothing were left on the floor. Admittedly it would put a strain on anyone going up and down those stairs all night but you never want to feel, as a guest, you are the ones putting the wait staff out. read more

Had some fine New Zealand wines. The Cuba Street festival was going on during the day, so the street was closed to traffic. Lots of street entertainers and musicians. We enjoyed our meal splitting a 5.5 gram Rib Steak. Lots and lots of meat. Went fine with the Waiheke Island wine I had for dinner (sorry the name escapes me now). Our waiter was great, service was excellent, so a different experience from some of the other posters. They have a 3 Course chef special before 5:30 and 7 course at night. We thought about it, but decided that was too much food. The building was formerly a bank, it reminds me somewhat of the Pantheon in Rome (a tad smaller here). All in all an enjoyable evening. read more

We were gifted a voucher for our anniversary meal and chose to try the five course tasting menu with wine matching. The food was stunning and the wine matches were unbelievable. The meal was everything we wanted and more. We had one server who was just great. Super friendly and down to earth, an all round nice guy. However our two other servers left something to be desired. One looked like she would rather be anywhere else and the other brought over the wrong menus (it says which you are having on your booking) and then mucked up our wine matches. I don't like complaining about things like this usually but when we are paying around $155 a head, I would like a little more vigilance. BUT this is still not a food opportunity to be missed. The paua ravioli and sweetbreads are impeccable! read more

First of all we had a lovely young English waitress, she was brilliant and has a bright future in future endeavors. The paua ravioli was my highlight, had the beef cheek for main it was ok, strange flavors (could just be personal taste) just not for me. The venue is gorgeous, very very nice place. I issue I had was receiving my main 1.5 hours after our table booking, my main reason for 3 stars. It's a very classy and expensive restaurant, I didn't see that coming! read more

Lovely upscale restaurant on bustling Cuba street. Had the ravioli for an appetizer which was fantastic, and the special chestnut pappardele which was also good, though slightly under seasoned. Husband had the fish dish chick was little uninspired. Service was excellent, wine pairing well done. Recommend for an upscale dining experience. read more

7 course degustation. Although some of the best food I've tasted everything else about the experience was so poor the evening was pretty much a write-off. To repeat - the food (what little of it there is) was (mostly) amazing. Only 2 courses out of 7 less than awesome.... BUT... The service was pretentious and devoid of any personality, the portion sizes (even for a 'tasting menu') tiny, the timing ridiculously drawn out (half an hour between each course FAR too long when the "course" is a couple of mouthfuls), it is ludicrously overpriced (2 people + 3 beers and two soft drinks = $320!!!!). This smacks of profiteering even more when you see they are advertising the same menu for Valentines day for a whopping $60 MORE pp (yes that's $195 pp folks) WITHOUT the complimentary bubbles to begin with. I had been so looking forward to this - but have left hangry and feeling ripped off. And before the food snobs out there judge me for not 'getting the point' of a degustation - I really do. It's about the experience - and that's my point - although the food was devine, the experience was awful. If they keep trading on their old reputation this way I can't see them lasting for another 20 years! read more

A quick visit to Wellington was rewarded with an excellent meal at the iconic Logan Brown. Located in the old National Bank at the top of Cuba Street, the setting is grand and luxurious while maintaining the character and many features of the original bank. The food was nothing short of sublime. My companion and I shared a half dozen natural Tio Point oysters which were a perfect little taste of the sea. My entree was the Wild Hare Loin served with mulled wine, garlic custard, gingerbread and chocolate molasses. It was rich, tasty and completely delicious. For the main course I had Wild Venison with venison black pudding. It could have been slightly warmer, but again it was extremely tasty and well presented. Heading to the restaurant I was looking forward to a succulent steak, but the only steak on the menu was an 800 gram T-Bone to share. Steak was a surprising exclusion from the main menu however to be honest, it may have chosen the venison regardless. There is an extensive wine list featuring both local and international wines. We enjoyed a suburb bottle of Man' O War cab franc merlot from Auckland's Waiheke Island. Last but certainly not least, the wait staff were friendly and attentive and added to the overall ambiance of the evening. Highly recommended! read more

Located in the heart of Wellington, on the corner of Cuba and Vivian streets, in the historic National Bank of New Zealand building, Logan Brown is hard to miss. The main dining area is housed in the former banking hall, architecturally one of Wellington's finest interiors. The atmosphere is elegant and refined. The service was attentive, professional, yet relaxed. This was not only my last night in Wellington, but my last night in New Zealand. Capping off a magnificent adventure and an amazing gastronomic tour of the North and South Islands. I had stopped in earlier that evening to peruse the menu and get a feel for the posh looking space. Sarah the hostess with the mostest, was most welcoming and accommodating. Walking me through the menu and wine list, exhibiting the of New Zealand. While expressing their philosophy and environmentally minded approach to food. I arranged to be back for dinner in 2 hours. I started with an aperitif, an engaging non-vintage Nautilus Brut sparkler from Marlborough. Succumbing to Sarah's suggestions, I then ordered one of their signature dishes, the Paua ravioli. It was beautiful in so many ways. She paired it with the finely textural 2009 Northburn Riesling from Central Otago. That was followed by another signature dish, the lamb rack. My relatively low lamb intake on this trip, made this choice a no brainer. The lamb was perfect (no finishing salt needed)! It was brilliantly paired with an Ata Rangi 'Celebré' 2011 Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon from Martinborough. I took my time with the lamb rack. This required a second glass of wine. An Urlar Pinot Noir 2011 from Wairarapa suddenly appeared. Produced from organic and biodynamically grown grapes sourced from their meticulously farmed estate vineyard in Gladstone. Urlar, which means 'the Earth' in Scottish Gaelic, is an elegant Pinot Noir with a dark cherry, plum nose. A silky textured refined palate with savoury notes and a pleasantly dry finish. Making it a brilliant choice for the lamb rack. A Churton Petit Manseng 2012 came next. Made from petit manseng, a grape that I'm most familiar with. This had sensational depth of flavour with wonderful mouth-watering mineral acidity. A delightful wine that begins medium-sweet and finishes dry. The perfect compliment for 'The Sweet Taste of Logan Brown', a veritable powerhouse dessert tasting. Nicely done. Then finally a Laphroaig 10 Year Old as a digestif. Everything that I had was incredibly fresh, flavorful and brilliantly executed. The servers never missed a beat. Sarah was perfect......making this a most memorable dining experience. read more

Even just walking into this place was impressive. It looks cool from the outside but the inside is stunning. The food ( the most important part) was top-notch. My partner and I split the steak and we had some salad and the corn and potato sides. It was all great. We're not big dessert people so we skipped that. The service was great as well. I'd give Logan Brown 10 stars out of 5 if I could. It is expensive, silver-service, but worth it. This is where I go for special dinners. And I have never-ever been disappointed. The chefs are the country's best, the food is seasonal and of the highest quality. For visitors the menu includes the country's speciality of lamb, seafood, paua, venison, etc. But also the more global favourites too. They are a must-go stop during the Wellington on a Plate month. They also have a "Desgustation" menu on Saturdays that is $135+ which is a massive taste of all their best dishes, plus accompanying wine. Foodies delight.
