Ahh Scopa, this place has become a family tradition, when in Wellington we must stop here for Belgian hot chocolate (watch YouTube and you will understand ) and pizza. We have tried most of the food on the menu and the Margherita and Funghi pizza are great options, the Scopa Fried Chicken and calamari are very good but skip the sexy fries as I am still trying to figure what is so sexy about them. The place is located in the heart of Cuba street and is always packed, be prepared for a wait but don't let that stop you, go in leave your name and number with the very friendly waitress and go window shopping down the strip. They will call you when a table has opened up which doesn't take long. Overall excellent spot for lunch or dinner and very accommodating of children. read more

My partner and I ordered take out from Scopa this evening. We split the Zucchini and Arrabbiatta pizzas, and I thoroughly enjoyed the garlic cream on the Zucchini pizza and the spicy sauce on the Arrabbiatta. They're personal sized pizzas, so order one per person. If you order online for pick up, they include a free hot chocolate with your order. They're famous for their hot chocolate and I can understand why. If you wait until you finish your pizzas to drink it, it's basically pudding! I'd recommend ordering it for takeaway because the restaurant itself is quite cramped. read more

Very decent personal pizzas with a wide variety of toppings and styles for everyone. Setting is pretty cozy and intimate even on bustling Cuba Street. When I originally saw my pizza I thought what you probably were thinking: boring. The pizza tastes a lot better than the presentation suggests. I enjoyed a very nice, leisurely and delicious lunch here on Sunday. I wandered in and got a table easily. I sat at the window and was able to enjoy the relaxed, stylish atmosphere and watch the Cuba Street life go by at the same time. I ordered Rocket Salad with Olives, Almond and Parmesan and added two Poached Eggs. My sparkling water was nicely served in a carafe (much nicer than just coming in a glass) and it wasn't long until my server brought my meal. It was really good - very enjoyable. The table has salt, black pepper and chilli oil on offer, waiting for me to enjoy. At the server's suggestion, I drizzled the oil on my eggs ... a lovely addition. First time I have ever been here. First of all, New Zealand is one of the best countries I have been to. My cousin brought me to this little restaurant for lunch. This is such a quaint place. I loved the atmosphere and everything about it. The waiter was very friendly. I arrived with a party of FIVE. We were seated right away. Not knowing what to order, just Macchiato. So first they brought out my Macchiato and me as a non coffee drinker, I was expecting it to be something sweet but it far from sweet. Of course I had to try it anyway. Let's just say, it wasn't my favorite. Next they brought out my lunch. The presentation was on point. First bite, it was so yummy. I had never had anything like it. Very tasty as well. Not to cheesy. All the ingredients was complementing each other. I would definitely recommend this place for brunch/lunch. I left with wanting to try more things off their menu. Good spot if you're looking for Italian. My friend and I split the olives and 2 pizzas and couldn't finish everything. The olives are some of the best I've ever had..AMAZING. I'm not used to having served warm, and they were on point. We got the margherita pizza which was my least favorite and not what I'm used to (no dollops of cheese, just basil and sea salt :( ). The gorgonzola funghi was yummy and different. We also got the spritzers, which were good but not much alcohol for being so expensive. Went there for lunch on a Saturday ordered the special pizza which had pulled pork, (something similar to) kale, and olives. The pizza base was excellent, thin, light, and crisp but there could have been a little more flavor. I also ordered the bailey's hot chocolate. It was delicious but difficult to drink as it was rather thick. I ended up eating it like chocolate sauce with a spoon. I also tried the hotcakes which were to die for and a ragu pasta dish which I can't recall the name of which was also rather tasty. Comfortable dining area and friendly service would definitely come again but would probably stay away from the specials next time as the items on their menu were significantly better. read more

Mmmmmmhhhh Scopa bene, get in my tummy. Came here for brunch right before my flight back to the states. This place was so good that my colleague brought a group of us back for her second round. While known for its delectable pizza and hot chocolate, I couldn't resist the eggs Benedict with salmon. They have this incredible chili sauce/oil that I drizzled all over my plate. Now I remember why I stopped to going here. We were sat at 1pm. It took just over 50 minutes for our pizza and pasta to arrive. When we did ask at the 30 minute mark where our food was, we were told that our order was next. I didn't realize that meant the cook hadn't even started our ticket. I wish they had warned us, prior to seating, that the kitchen was backed up almost an hour so we could have made an informed decision. But I felt really bad for the three-top behind us; they were visibly and audibly hangry, too, like us. It's not good to keep older people waiting that long....it plays havoc with metabolism and blood sugar levels. The lesson is: don't go there on weekdays if you have anything to do ... like work, run errands, or keep other appointments. However, the pizza is good. Papardelle pesto with chevre was delicious....but was swimming in pesto -- too much. Terrible experience - decent food. read more

For me, Scopa brunch was great. Smoked salmon, spinach on dark rye, hold the eggs but keep the hollandaise. NOM. The English breakfast however, I've got to say, didn't look appealing at all. Authentic Italian cuisine, delicious pizzas and fabulous layout of the bar and service area where you can look right into the woodfired pizza oven. OMG! The most amazing Italian restaurant we've experienced! Watch your chef flip the pizza dough infront of you, or try their homemade pastas, you won't be disappointed. This is the kind of place where you can be in casual clothes, out for a quick bite - Or a little bit posh, enjoying a quiet corner over candlelight, and be treated equally. The service staff have such a warming demeanour, and have such a great knowledge of not only their menu, but the Italian cuisine. Then there's the food, which is not only incredible, but it's a reasonable price. Their extensive wine list matches the entire menu as well, with some tasty international drops. Go out of your way to try the hot chocolate! Upon a recommendation, I checked out Scopa for the hot chocolate after dinner. Boy was I amazed! It was incredible!! For 6 NZD it was a bit smaller but well worth it! The first taste of the drink was incredible! It almost tastes like a great blend of milk and dark chocolate. They found the sweet spot of not too bitter and not too sweet. It also had a certain frothiness to it at first. Drink it up quickly though as it started to congeal once I got it to my hotel room and the temperature cooled down. Maybe this is a good thing because it is rich! Highly recommend. It just could be better than Lindt Cafe's hot chocolate (which is also to die for). read more

I'm not really a pizza fan but on my last visit to Wellington my friends took me to this restaurant, when we were discussing where to go for dinner and this place came up, I figured I'd order a steak as I'd had pasta for lunch. Turns our there is no steak on the menu. I didn't want to have pasta twice in one day so ended up ordering a pizza knowing it wouldn't go to waste as I was dining with three others. I ordered the pepperoni pizza and OMG, it was the tastiest pizza I have ever had. It had a thin base, just the right amount of garlic, tomato sauce, pepperoni and cheese. It was very flavoursome, a little spicy which wasn't an issue for me as I love spicy food. The waiter did tell me when I placed my order it had chillis and gave me the option of removing them - I asked for a little bit of chillis and what came out was perfect. I didn't want to share and ended up eating most if it before begrudgingly sharing a couple of slices with my friends. I can't fault the service which was excellent, our waiter was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself is quite small but I didn't feel like we were crammed in even though it was a full house. I look forward to visiting Wellington again so I can head back to this little gem of a restaurant. read more
