I offered to just get off the bus and he got mad saying "it's not that hard" repetitively. He told me I've obviously not got tap payments on. I do... I literally use the card to go shopping. Transport is active and works fine on trains. We have gone to the bank before, they said the opal machines mess up with bank cards sometimes. Not on the bank cards but on the opal machines. And plenty of the other lovely bus drivers have mentioned before that sometimes even opal cards don't work, and that the opal machines mess up. I have no money overdrawn, nothing. So it was very odd. Wish he was a lot nicer. My partner tapped on his opal card and the bus driver said it didn't work. But it did - the balance was just low and gave us a warning that it was low... we both tapped off and the card worked fine and took out money. In conclusion - he was a bad egg among the bunch and I hope he finds happiness oneday, instead of being a judgemental and angry at everyone else for a problem we can't help.

Stradbroke Ferries is the only company at Cleveland that runs both a water taxi and a car ferry…read more(barge) service to Straddie. You can apply to become a 'Frequent Floater' on the barge and earn discounts, so the $120-odd dollar return fare for a car full of people or gear will be discounted. On the water taxi, a return adult fare will cost you under $20 and there are trips from basically 6am - 6pm; a bit earlier during the week and a bit later on the weekend; check the timetables. You definitely need to book for the car barge, but not to walk on as a foot pasenger on the water taxi or the barge. Most Strad. Ferries barges have a cafe, but the water taxis don't. The trip from Cleveland to Dunwich on Straddie takes from 45 minutes to an hour and is very relaxing.

I rang when I got home, they told me to get a quote and they'd cover it. I was pretty shocked to find out I had to replace the whole tail light at $450 for a broken bit of plastic, however I emailed the receipt to Straddie Ferries and they had the cash in my account in a few days. Great service, lovely people.

She was super patient and everything we discussed went according to plan! They provide a courtesy bus from Cleveland Train Station to the ferry. You can purchase your tickets for the ferry when you arrive without any dramas. They are quick and efficient and the next thing you know- you're on the boat heading to Straddie. 25 minutes later, you arrive and the Straddie bus times align with the ferry arrivals making it very visitor friendly. They were a little late arriving but a little early on the return. The buses will wait and adjust their time to the ferry which is fantastic. I really appreciate that. I had a great experience on the flyer gold and would definitely take it again. If you're a frequent visitor or go in a group, you can purchase a multi-pass which may be more economical.

Australians are somewhat spoiled on transit options. It must be noted that this ferry is not part…read moreof Translink, meaning that you cannot use your card or its perks. There is a slight student discount, but the rate as a whole is not bad. The boat runs about hourly, and it is a quick ride and a quick boarding process. It is a large catamaran, and thus very stable. A smooth ride. They allow you to bring pets and whatever you want to carry, and claim to have hosted people who took full advantage of that policy, up to bringing on pigs and goats. I did not see any of those; just people and dogs. It is worth noting that if you take this passenger ferry, you will end up in a fairly anonymous town, so unless you are meeting someone there you will take a bus to the good parts of the island. Since I'm not writing a separate review for that, I'll say that the bus is limited but effective. Again, you have to pay in cash, but for the bus, a student discount makes a rather large difference (half price). The bus is timed to coincide with the boat, though the first and last boats of the day lack a bus service. It goes across the island pretty quickly; there aren't a lot of stops along the way. On the mainland side, a free bus runs to and from the train station, clearly labeled, enabling you to get to anywhere in Brisbane at a very decent clip. All told, this is a cost- and time-efficient way for people in Brisbane to enjoy a day trip to a tropical island paradise.

The CLEM7 is pretty awesome in terms of being able to stick your arms out the window and pretend…read moreyou're in a Star Wars starfighter chase scene. I've had better tunnels (CLEM7 is kind of too spacious for a proper sense of narrowly escaping a tractor beam) but this one does the trick. Running essentially from Woolloongabba to Lutwyche, the CLEM7 cuts out the city and saves you a decent amount of time, usually at least 15 minutes. The tunnel is a 6.8km tolled motorway linking five major Brisbane roads, including the Pacific Motorway, Ipswich Road, Lutwyche Road, Inner City Bypass and Shafston Avenue at Kangaroo Point. The CLEM7 forms the first part of Brisbane's new M7 motorway, to be completed in 2012 when the Airport Link tunnel opens. At present it's just a snazzy new and rather long tunnel that has a hidden speed camera and flashing overhead signs telling you to "Turn on your radio now". I know this probably means "turn on your radio now for a traffic update to see if there's any accidents around", but it seems weird to be told by a flashing sign that I have to listen to the radio. Maybe they just want me to start grooving then and there in the tunnel. Assuming I have reception in the tunnel. The tunnel was initially unpopular with Brisbanites owing to the high toll, and perhaps this sentiment remains because the CLEM7 still doesn't draw in the crowds you'd expect. The price was dropped dramatically for a while, but now seems quite higher: unless you get a FLOWtag the tunnels costs $0.47 per trip (image processing fee) and $6.50 as an unpaid toll. That's about $7 per trip for lazy people who don't bother getting the fee paid within three days. *coughs* In any case, it seems like the CLEM7 is still going through teething pains in terms of being accepted by the public. Maybe Brisbanites just can't stand paying tolls. Oh, and as to the tunnel's name: "As Brisbane's longest serving Lord Mayor, Clem Jones oversaw the city's growth from a sleepy country town to a vibrant sub-tropical metropolis during his time in office from 1961 to 1975"... or so claims the website. I do remember a bit of uproar over the name at the time, but this is par for the course in terms of Brisbane infrastructure developments.
