Don't expect them to stock wild and exotic products, but certainly all the essentials can be found here.

This is particularly true given its location (the hip Oxford Street). You would expect something flash and new. This has the vibe of a pharmacy from about ten years ago, where the products are all related to medical issues, not impulse buying. (Eerie.) If you're ordering something on script or that needs a label, you might wait a while here. There's usually at least one other person in this pharmacy waiting for their product to be "written up", and that's enough to add ten minutes onto your wait. I almost want to complain about having to wait but the staff are simply too nice. You can easily chat with the counter staff and wile away the time, though if someone's parked on the street waiting for you to "duck in and out" they might not be so happy. The size of the pharmacy means the products tend to be average in terms of price, so I wouldn't look for a cheap deal here.

They sell kitchen gadgets, beauty products, gourmet foods, home wares, candles, toys, clothes, umbrellas, books, and yet still manage to function as a pharmacy as well. The pharmacists here are very knowledgeable and experienced, thanks in part to being situated in a large medical centre. The same phenomenon, though, means that it can get very busy and the wait for prescriptions can be a while. Their large volume of customers after prescription medicines also means that they run out of things. It doesn't mean you can't get your medicine, just that they have to send someone away to get it from storage or something and that, too, can cause delay. Although it fulfills its requirements as a pharmacy perfectly well, I more often use The Mill Pharmacy as a place to browse or buy random little things while I'm killing time before an appointment. At least if your script is taking a while there's not shortage of things to look at.

The pharmacy does a roaring trade owing to the amount of people constantly going in out of the building, either to see a fertility doctor or ear, nose and throat specialist or for some dreaded orthodontic appointment. This means many come to the pharmacy for scripts or medications, but this isn't what draws me in to this pharmacy. I love my pharmacies. I particularly love pharmacies that sell my favourite brands of make-up at cheap prices, and this is one of them. They get you in by filling the flanks of the store with make-up deals and before I knew it, I came out of here with a new lipstick, foundation and powder - having intended to buy nothing. They weren't my normal brand but a fairly cheap brand the chemist offered - and the colours were fabulous, matching my odd complexion (fair-skinned, dark-eyed) fairly well. (This is a rare win for me.) There's always a lot of bustling about in here but the staff are very friendly and won't keep you waiting if they're in the middle of chatting to someone else. It's like they have a sensor for potentially impatient customers, and are able to be in three places at once. Jolly good job!

Jeta Gardens is the only Australian retirement village catered to and built upon Eastern…read morephilosophies. My grandmother has been living there in a private house for almost five years. As most elderly relatives are, she was reluctant to leave my dad's house to live amongst strangers, but she now loves her life at Jeta and calls it home. She's since made a lot of friends and as she can't speak English it's been wonderful for her to live amongst a community where she can communicate and socialise more comfortably. (That said, there are also many Anglo residents living at Jeta too, and those who require special assistance can live at apartments closer to the main building and staff.) The village is located close to Sunnybank, and Jeta organises frequent bus trips there for residents to pick up groceries, mingle and shop. The houses themselves are lovely - clean, large, modern places with lock up garages. My grandma also has her own garden, in which she's planted sweet potatoes and paw paw trees. An interesting note: there are no number 4 or 14 houses due to Chinese superstition. Instead, there are houses 13A to 13B, as the number '4' when spoken in Cantonese sounds like the word "death". There is a wide range of activities available at Jeta. My grandma likes to walk, and Jeta caters to her needs perfectly. There's a large paddock around the back of the houses with a long pathway. The pathway winds its way around a big vegetable patch filled with Chinese greens and melons. Beside the paddock is a lake inhabited by ducks and frogs, and a Chinese pagoda where residents can relax and play Mah Jong. The pagoda and pathways are beautiful. That said, there is duck shit all over the pathways around the lake - a problem, my grandma explains, that wouldn't exist if this was China and the residents were allowed to hunt game freely.

I would not travel from far away to come here though, if you live closer to Indooroopilly or the city, there is no reason why you would need to come here. For some serious shopping you are much better off going elsewhere. 'Toowong Village' is pretty much just your average suburban shopping centre but a little bit bigger. On top of its aesthetic and design short-comings, Toowong Village is full of chain stores with nothing really unique to be found there. Zaraffas does a good coffee and the whole place is an air-conditioned haven when summer temperatures soar. But you'll be there vying for a seat on a blue vinyl couch with the rest of Toowong.

My 76 year old mother in law was a long term resident at the facility up until recently, when they suddenly decided not to renew her lease. She initially became aware of this when she was informed by another resident. In the months after this, she asked management on numerous occasions about her new lease & didn't receive an answer. One day she arrived home one day to find that they had put her lease documents under her door. They had simply checked a box within the document, indicating that the lease would not be renewed. Apart from this, they didn't even have the decency to inform her she was about to become homeless. When asked why, Seasons responded by saying "By law, we don't have to give you a reason". In the midst of a housing crisis, can you imagine how she felt? It is almost impossible for able bodied, working couples to find accommodation at the moment, let alone a pensioner in poor health. Since being cruelly evicted, she has had no alternative but to seek accommodation with relatives & has been in hospital with a heart condition. For much of her time at facility, Seasons were the provider of her government aged care package, organising personal care, cleaning & meals. The level of service was quite frankly, absolutely embarrassing. There were constant problems with Seasons overcharging, double charging & charging for services that were not provided. She would be charged for visits from the nurse and other health providers that didn't take place. On countless occasions, personal carers didn't show up at all. Her bank account was put into the red, more than once, due to their complete mismanagement. The quality & quantity of food provided in daily meals was as bad as I've ever seen. Time & time again, there were instances where there was no registered nurse on site, despite this being part of legislation. When queried about these issues, Seasons attitude was rude & dismissive. In frustration, these issues were raised directly to the CEO, who was also uncaring, unhelpful & dismissive. Eventually she was forced to find another provider for these services, who almost instantly, improved the level of care noticeably. It would be fair to assume that Seasons decided that it was much simpler to evict a 76 year old pensioner than address their own shortcomings. Whilst some of the staff at Seasons Redbank Plains are friendly & helpful, the same can't be said for management. It would seem that you don't need to have any background or experience in the aged care sector to be a manager at this organisation, they have proven time & time again to be completely lacking of the necessary experience, understanding & common sense. As it turns out, the CEO of Seasons Living in Brisbane can also be counted as someone who has absolutely no experience in aged care or health care. It should come as no surprise whatsoever, that this organisation is operated so poorly.
