Looking for a dive bar and found this place. I have to give a low star rating for 2 reasons, there is no parking lot only 4 spots in front. The other is the bar tenders ignore you unless you are local. I was ignored even when waving arm and making eye contact. It was not until a local sat down and made conversation, confirming that the bar caters to locals that I was served without issue. It took me 45 minutes to get a beer to suddenly 2 minutes, unbelievable! read more

The Mrs. and I checked this place out the other night. I had heard about it, read about it, so I thought we should give it a go. This place has the friendliest, most personable staff I've seen in a night spot in a long, long time. I've had other favorites, but over time, new bartenders/management comes in and wants the place to be something else. This place is what it is, and it is proud to be just what it is. No one can slight a place for that. Plus, the owner and all the bartenders chatted to us for a while about craft beers, local foodie festivals, and absinthe. It was fun and very enjoyable. Sure its the Queen of dive bars, and I sure wouldn't want to visit the bathrooms but Lola's is a great place to just shoot some pool and enjoy a strong drink. They don't accept credit cards (cash only) but that doesn't matter because the drinks are cheap and the atmosphere is fun! read more

It's a mess. Love how the place is out of the ordinary with decor all over the place but I sat on that bar for 15 mins and saw everyone being served but me. I finally left after trying to call someone over to take my order at the bar. Worst place I have been too. It seems like if your are new you don't exist. That's my observation. Ca$h only... Great place to get a cheep drink. Love the mixture of people, outside the box non cookie cutter type. Place is kinda dark/grungy has tha clutter collage retro souvenir theme behind the bar and black walls w/ murals painted of former music stars. Place has the right amount of dirt and grimy bashrooms, that kinda adds to its style. Last time i went i saw a chick fight that was allowed to go on w/out interference, normally have to pay for that kind of entertainment. Its always been a place to go if you need pick up something other than alcohol i have noticed as people seem to walk in then out after a brief conversation w/ the guy who keeps having guest arrive/leave . They do have an outdoor patio for smoking, go any day of week. This is a favorite spot of many people, I usually make it a stop if I am bar hopping or need to waist a hour or two. Owner is a complete jackass. He called my friend back into the bar after he closed his tab. When he came in he started questioning about how much he tipped. It's a tip! Not part of the bill!! He literally grabbed a beer and used a bottle opener and handed it to us. He tried to use the free hot dogs, free pool, and "good service" to justify his tip. Have you seen the restrooms?! I literally started gagging when I walked in there. Disrespectful and tacky establishment. Little did he know, we had 2 other people who had an open tab there as well and once they got word, they left him a big fat 0. His disrespect caused a domino effect and I hope he learned his lesson. read more

My husband and I went there one evening to try it out since it received so many good reviews. It was the worst experience I have ever had at a bar. The bar wasn't busy and the bartender looked over us and served everyone around us for a full thirty minutes until we finally walked out. We had called out to him, waved at him, and had our money in hand. The bartender even made eye contact with us a few times before looking away with a scowl on his face to attend other customers. I'm never one to play the race card, but my husband and I were the only ones who weren't either white or hispanic. We usually love dive bars and go for low-key, laidback places, but I don't think we will ever give this place another shot and I would strongly recommend other minorities to stay away or risk being blatantly passed over and ignored. read more

I have been coming here for years and have had great experiences at Lola's but yesterday will be the last time I step foot in there. The bartender/owner made an unnecessary scene in front of customers at the bar about my brother not tipping to the bartender's liking. After my brother closed out his tab, he literally told my cousin to have my brother come back inside so the bartender could "talk to him". Any way, the bartender harassed my brother about the amount of tip he left in front of other customers. Then, while we're leaving, my brother and the bartender are exchanging words and the bartender decides to stare my brother down until he walks out the front door. Completely unnecessary and unprofessional behavior. read more

this is the ultimate dive bar. when you walk through the doors, you are transported into another world. the bar is small, dark, lacking any windows and the black painted walls may scare at first, but let go of the feeling and only then can you enjoy some of houston's interesting characters. all types can be found at lola's - hippies, suits, rockers, biker boys, and all in between. the bartenders have the same edge and character as the bar and make some of the strongest drinks in the city. if you need a break from the characters, there is a large outdoor (cemented) patio out back, or use up your quarters on the pool table or pinball machine. be careful - the strong drinks and lack of clocks/windows have made afternoons and weekends disappear with a trace, with only a freshly painted tattoo as evidence of your visit to lola's. read more

I personally love dark,grungy, dive bars, so i really love Lola's.....good jukebox,great bartenders,stiff drinks,and always an interesting crowd! parking is sometimes hard to come by,and transexual prostitutes sometimes offer to "watch your car" for you, but the outside patio is spacious and usually entertaining! read more

I've been going to Lola's since I was 17 (there was a long 15 year absence when I moved to California, but I came back and Lola's was still there, familiarity is nice when so much in Houston has changed in that timeframe). I know some of the regulars now (after the first time I was there and only because I'm super-ultra sociable...or drunk...or both). I have to agree that it is the best dive bar. Drinks are $1.50 nowdays btw. Nice, dark, dank atmosphere. Back in the day there wasn't all the development around and the streetlights didn't permeate the darkness of the patio. All sorts of lascivious and illicit activities took place. I guess they still do, just now a little more visible for all to see. Lola's is literally within walking distance for me, so that's always a plus. A lot of the Rudyard's and Next Door crowd go to Lola's as well. They are the 3 incestuous dives in the area I guess. read more

This place is awesome. The diviest of Montrose dives. Cheap drinks. Best juke box in Houston. Everything from Cash to Lamb of God with killer local acts in between. The bar staff is friendly. Big back patio. Hipsters don't go there. Strong drinks. I take all of my out of town guests here for an off the beaten path view into the soul of Houston. This place kicks ass. There is not a better holdover from old Montrose. Also, this place is a great place to take a date to see if she can hang. If she can, she's cool. If she can't, she's not. Lola's is my fave bar in Houston!!! Honestly its pretty grungy but the drink prices can't be beat. Service is relatively quick and the patio area is amazing. I like going during the week because it's quite and there's ton seating. Chill people, stiff drinks. What's not to love? read more

It used to be a wild place now it's a cool neighborhood bar. Fun owners from NOLA, of course it's cool. They've cleaned it up a bunch, inside and out. Good prices, lots of fun.....the only seedy thing left is the memories. read more
