The portion size was "yuuuuuge" to quote a contemporary celebrity. It really held up well all afternoon back at the office as I munched my way through the afternoon. The meats tasted delectably fresh and the lettuce crunchy and well-dressed. Banh Mi is more to my taste because of the crusty bread and delicious Asian twist, but this Italian sandwich really deserves kudos for great flavor and preparation. If you like, and normally eat, sandwiches I feel sure you will be suitably impressed.

Dorthy Moon's is now filling the aforementioned role as the only current DC Burger truck. The big purple truck hit the streets at the beginning of the month and is keeping it simple "slinging street meat". Their website is not currently up and running but their facebook page mentions 5 burgers - plus the "build your own" option. I did not see a list of suggested burgers, but was happy to build my own and opted for Bacon, Cheddar, with Terriyaki Mushrooms and the usual lettuce, tomato, onion, and condiments. They also offer a few unique toppings such as Sriracha sauce, egg, and pepperoni. I passed on the usual choices of sodas (they also offer an Arnold Palmer) and flavored chips so that I could sample the burger unfettered by distractions. The burger options are pretty generous with $6 for a single and only a dollar more for a "double". They did not take a "temp" on the burger but it was cooked to a nice juicy medium. (Note that if you don't like any pink in your burger you may want to ask for burger a bit more done). My first impression upon opening the foil wrapped burger was -- Five Guys! Almost the same profile and wrapping method as Five Guys and about the same size patties and hamburger buns. The meat was flavorful, bacon crisp and generously portioned, the bun soft and slightly sweet, and it was (of course with all of my toppings) a rather messy but enjoyable eat. My only minor quibble were the "terriyaki mushrooms" - they were decent sauteed button mushrooms, but I could detect no terriyaki flavor to them. They might want to consider offering turkey and/or veggie burgers if they want to round out their offerings for some of DC's health conscious. However, I have a feeling that this place will likely develop a loyal following, as is, if they keep their prices down and quality up.

He said he would make them for us. We ordered one with beef and one with chicken. For those who want chicken, they use chicken thighs. He prepared our order which was freshly made. The order cost $30. We appreciated that he bagged it up for us which made it easier to get it upstairs without any mishaps. I ate the beef one and was impressed not only with the generous amount meat used but also the amount of cheese in it. The tortillas were nicely fried and had a crunch to them. Each order came with a small side of pico de gallo and some sour cream. The pico was nicely flavored. My husband ate the chicken one and like me, he, too, was impressed with the food. This truck had a line so I thought I'd check them out. I couldn't find much on them except a brick and mortar restaurant which is not fairing well in the review department. I decided to take a chance anyway. I ordered the corn tamale and a cheese pupusa. The pupusa is sort of like a thick crepe stuffed with cheese or ground meat. It's also fried--yes! My meal also came with a red dipping sauce, sour cream (which I don't like) and pickled cabbage. The pupusa was delicious! You could tell that it was made to order because it melted part of the styrofoam container. By the way, they are not supposed to use styrofoam--ooh, I'm telling. Just kidding! I also liked the tamale but I thought it was tad bit on the dry side. The pickled cabbage was tasty and had some kick to it. I probably had to wait more than 5 minutes but less than 10 minutes. The lady taking orders was approachable. Also, I got my meal for $7 (with tax)--not bad. I would visit this truck again. I look forward to trying other things on their menu.

Chewy, cheesy goodness. No more, no less. They also serve it with a side of yellow picked cabbage. I got my hopes up at first because I thought it was a mango salad. My poor tastebuds were so confused after I took my first bite! But it was still good. The tamale was also very good. Lots of tender chunks of flavorful chicken, chickpeas, potatoes and green peppers encased in thick delicious masa. So good. Who knew $6 could be so filling and delicious? I hadn't had a good pupusa in a very long time (they don't sell them where I live) which was the only reason I stopped by. And I love tamales, so naturally I had to get one of those as well.
