When the wife and I look for travel gifts, a bag of local roasted coffee oft comes to mind. Thus we went on the Googlenets, and it handily pointed us towards Café Lomi on the outskirts of Paris. It helped that Café Lomi was walking distance from our already booked event at Cook'n with Class (http://www.yelp.com/biz/cook-n-with-class-paris-2#hrid:oFILMW2iZBuZGdUhyYhrlw), making it a hop & skip away rather than the jump it would normally take from Paris' center. Another funny thing about the Google results. Pretty much everyone decries Parisian coffee as mediocre dreck, but in my opinion, it's still vastly superior to the American system hooked on burnt Starbucks. No, it's not Italy, but even the regular "bad" coffee in Paris is still better than your typical American coffee chains. In any case, we ran across a couple articles that I can no longer easily find recommending Le Café Lomi, which recently erected a brick & mortar location after supplying roasted beans to many of the "best" coffeeshops across Paris. It comes well recommended by the New York Times (http://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/29/ristretto-paris-is-brewing/), and if that doesn't impress you, the Paris CM is also a fan (http://www.yelp.com/biz/le-caf%C3%A9-lomi-paris#hrid:AHX_03NO5c_pNHwsLdIzJg). Sold for me. The menu is seasonal and simplistic. Café Lomi offers a few beans currently on roast. That day's menu featured 2 espresso blends and 3 filtered. As tired as I was adventurous, I ordered an espresso for me along with a filtered carafe for the table. The espresso blend--Melangé Lomi--was as bold an espresso I've had outside of Italy. It'll kick you in the teeth, and in the good way. Conversely, the filtered blend--Kenyan Gatomboya--was rather light and very subtle. It was actually quite a surprise from the bite of the espresso, but not in a bad way. We picked up a variety of blends to take home. I went with the Bresil Fazenda Pantano and am now in despair having recently polished off the bag. The menu also consists of teas, a beautiful hot chocolate, and a couple salad/sandwich offerings. But it's the coffee that draws the crowd. We spent some time talking to the barista, and he explained that the concept of Café Lomi was to try to convince Parisians to think of coffee the same way they think of wine. Each roast is its own taste; each region its own unique contribution. As for me, I drink coffee the same wine I drink wine: if it's good, it goes down. And Café Lomi's is stellar.

Hands down my favorite third wave coffee shop in Paris. I've never had a disappointing pull regardless of the drink. The menu has tons of interesting coffee-based and non-coffee-based options, great snacks and even lunch options. Outside of rush hours, there's a good chance you'll find a place to sit and hang out. Since Lomi is a roaster, they sell great beans at a decent price. I've used their Brazilian beans to make delicious chocolaty cold brew in the summer and pour over in the winter. Yes, it's out of the way, but Marcadet-Poissoniers (L12) is a block away so make the effort, it's worth it. As a 18ème native I'm pretty damn proud to have such a good place around.

The lemon margarine pie was really good. I would come back just to have the pie. I also had the chai latte. It is nice and quite here. Good place to stop by to grab something to drink and eat their pie!

Café Lomi in the 18th arrondissement in Paris is perhaps my favourite coffee shop in Paris, if not in the world. It's a little bit off the beaten track, but well worth the journey, and on the way you can enjoy to explore a neighbourhood in Paris many tourists probably don't see. At the end of a long day that had started at La tour Eiffel, I descended from the iconic Basilique du Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre and walked around the Goutte d'Or neighbourhood in the 18th arrondissement to get to Café Lomi. Café Lomi is a very beautiful roastery and coffee shop that seems to be almost too cool and hipster to be real at first sight. The café is located in an area, where you would probably not expect such a place. But then, in somewhat deprived neighbourhoods in East London, new coffee shops are also opening in numbers in recent years, so maybe it is actually not all that surprising to see the same happening in Paris. I immediately noticed that they use top-of-the-line equipment behind the counter - the main grinder and espresso machine looks pretty similar to the setup at the new Kaffeine branch in Eastcastle Street in London. If that tells you anything, then at least that they carefully select their tools, what usually is a good sign. Browsing the menu, I came across "café fromage" and asked the barista about it. Turns out this is a pairing of coffee, café, and cheese, fromage - just what you could guess from the name. The lovely barista explained that they tested different cheeses and decided to go with a blue cheese as it tasted best in combination with the coffee. I was not entirely sure about it, but I liked the idea and for once I thought that a coffee shop truly embraced being located in France and having easy access to great, local produce like cheese, so of course I wanted to find out myself if coffee and cheese together is any good. It is. In my experience, if you enjoy wine and cheese, I think you might also like coffee and cheese. At first, it might feel strange to dip a bit of cheese into your coffee, but really, it does taste alright and is something you perhaps won't get everywhere. It is refreshing to see a place going beyond the standard coffee offerings and coming up with something new that connects to the food heritage of the location. I later ordered a standard flat white which looked beautiful and tasted excellent. It was quite strong, but definitely a decent coffee. Useful for the tourist, they do also have free wifi in the shop. Café Lomi is a stunning place with great quality products and a certain arty, hipster kind of vibe. Fortunately, this still doesn't mean that you need a mustache to get served. The atmosphere is really relaxed and very friendly - overall, I think Café Lomi could quickly become my favourite coffee shop in Paris if I would move to the city!

I'd heard many things about Cafe Lomi not only about their cafe but also about their coffee beans - they offer coffee classes to businesses as well as the public The spot is just great - the coffee was flawless it got a big thumbs up from both myself and my partner in crime (not that we're experts by any means) These guys on the other hand are obvious experts and know what they're doing when it comes to good coffee! I also ordered the granola which was really good and tasted very home-made to me - (if not a tiny bit on the salty side! But I think I have a very sensitive palette when it comes to salty food!) My only complaint is the distance it is from my apartment and not in the nicest area of Paris - if it was in my neighborhood I'd be returning on a daily basis! Really though I cannot fault the experience, the coffee was insanely good, the service was very friendly and the cafe itself generally has a really cool vibe to it

It was head and shoulders our favorite coffee shop in the City of Light, and we lowkey made our rounds. It's a small shop, but filled to the brim with life and passion. I'm normally not a pastry guy, but if I lived anywhere near Motors I would absolutely be a pastry guy. The cinnamon roll was light and delicate, as opposed to the overly sweet and dense ones I'm used to. We also got a vanilla pastry they were testing, and a sugar cookie with milk chocolate drizzled on top. Ugh, take me back, inject these into my veins. I got my goto hot black coffee, and you could taste the freshness of the beans. My girlfriend got a latte that had the most beautiful little flower art on it. How do they even do that? I'm proud of myself, as I knew even when we were sitting in here enjoying our pastries, hot coffees, and each other's company that this was a moment I would look back on and cherish. It's always great knowing it's one of those moments when you're actually in it. You can fully appreciate it. My one regret is that I didn't get the ladies name serving us, as she was so sweet, recommended great pastries, and was just a pleasant human being. They don't make em like sis anymore... I immediately knew I was in the right place when we arrived - the cafe appeared as if it were in a snapshot from another era. From the window, I spotted an impressive display of jewel-toned jellied fruits and a coffee counter where you could purchase fresh beans and jams. The cozy seating area had a few tables set close together, and we were fortunate to be seated at the last open table. I ordered the cafe au lait, and my mom ordered the cafe glacé. The cafe au lait was brought out in an espresso mug and a pot of steamed milk - this way, you could add the desired amount of milk to your espresso. The espresso tasted smooth, and the milk was whipped to the perfect cloud-like consistency. I also tried a sip of my mom's cafe glacé, which was sweet and refreshing (the iced option also comes with a side of simple syrup). As a finishing touch, each beverage was delivered with a small square of chocolate. While pricier than a coffee at a typical cafe, this was one of the best cafe au lait I have ever tasted and worth every Euro. After savoring our coffee, we tried a few of the jellied fruits, which were sweet as honey and very decadent. We agreed that this was one of the coolest coffee experiences, as it truly felt like taking a journey back in time.

It's a very cozy shop like most Parisian restaurants so be prepared to sit inches next to your neighbor. My husband ordered the cafe allonge (Americano) which was served with a double shot of espresso and hot water on the side. I ordered a noisette (macchiato) which was perfect and beautifully made. Since it was the first bite of the day, he ordered the slice of toasted brioche with butter and homemade jam, while I ordered the bread basket with butter and jam. Their jam was amazing and grape I think, based on the seeds, color, and light taste. The butter was served warm with one small baguette of white and a square ciabatta roll that tasted like wheat. They sell jams, honey, cookies, coffee beans, and teas to go, and are in no hurry to rush you out of there. Enjoy the drinks, relax, and take your time.
