Great experience with Lomita Smog. I originally received a quote through Yelp and they honored it when I arrived for my smog check--no bait and switch at all. Just note that the quoted price is for cash since they charge a small fee for credit cards. I wasn't aware of this until I was ready to pay, but luckily I had cash for it. The technician was patient, professional, and clearly knowledgeable. I also learned something new during the visit: California has implemented stricter requirements for smog testers, which now require technicians to visually inspect parts of the engine bay and emissions components. Because my car is a mid-engine sports car, the engine is covered and requires special tools to access. The technician explained that he couldn't perform the test if he couldn't visually inspect the engine, and it's not their responsibility to remove engine covers. At first I didn't realize this requirement, but when I asked if it would be okay for me to remove the engine cover myself and come back, he said that was perfectly fine. The inspection is needed so they can verify certain stickers and emissions components. Although it would have been nice to know ahead of time, I understand that they were simply following state rules and doing the job correctly. I went home, removed the cover, returned, and everything went smoothly. Overall, an honest shop, no surprises, and a technician who was doing things the right way. Smog, smog go away!!! Found this shop on my IG feed and decided to give them a try. Coupon on IG AND they take appointments on weekdays. Text messages to confirm AND remind you of your appointment. Bassey is super friendly and helpful. I brought my DMV renewal paperwork as instructed and Bassey showed me to the nice waiting room. The room had a TV monitor, comfy sofa and a small table with chairs. They offer coffee, hot cocoa and water while you wait. The whole shop an waiting room was decorated for the holidays and there was even a Christmas tree with presents. Less than 10 minutes, Bassey said the testing was completed. WOW!! I was still drinking my coffee!!! He accepts credit cards with a 3% charge or he takes cash. I was out of there in 15 minutes. So I neglected to Smog my car last year and needed one in a pinch. Saw their add on Instagram for the newly opened Lomita Smog which is a Star Smog center located on the corner of Lomita and Ebony. TIP: if you mention the Insta post you get $10 off, plus they give you tockens for self serve the car wash attached to the Smog Shop! I was kindly greeted by Jossue who had a big smile and assured me he'd be done in 12 minutes! While he hooked me up to the testing machine he showed me to the small waiting room with a Kuerig coffee machine, seating and a TV.
