I had called up the previous week to ask how much was charged for a smog check; I had researched it prior to my call with an answer that varied widely from $30-80, depending on vehicle type, etc. I was told ***$69.99, including certificate (a physical one for my records plus digitally sent to the DMV)***. When I got there yesterday, when payment was due, I was told it would be $89.95; my car is a 2016 Toyota Corolla LE, not a rare or expensive or fancy vehicle of any kind, not a Jeep/SUV/truck/crossover. What could I do? I paid it, after mentioning that I had been told a different price before and the proprietor said no, it was $79.95 plus $10 for the certificate. Just returned from at least my 4th trip there...I can't believe that I haven't Yelped it before! Bob runs a clean, efficient, tight ship. It's close to my house. He's friendly and very professional. I usually make an appointment, but yesterday, I just dropped in. I needed to submit my certificate that same day! I think he retired from Toyota or something years ago. He's a real car and motorcycle guy, I believe. He also has great magazines: Car & Driver, Robb Report, Popular Mechanics... You can probably save a few bucks somewhere else, but I'm sold. Awesome smog station. We were out and about for lunch around the area. I noticed our expiration tags for car registeration is due and needed a smog asap. Very Courteous and reasonably fast but $80 ???!!! OMG....all the Technician did was look under the hood and took a mirror to look at the Catalytic Converter - took him a total of 1 minute and then plugged the car in and entered some information on his computer. My regular guy (who only charges only $40) had gone for the day and the sale of my vehicle rode on getting it smogged within about 30 minutes so I was stuck. Considering what AA Smog Away charges I'm absolutely amazed this guy is still in business. read more

Something is not right about this Smog Star Certified location. Please drive past if you do not want to waste time and money. Especially time. My LR required a smog check. Have driven LR vehicles for 20 plus years more than 500000 miles plus combined all vehicles. Countless smog tests. Failed first visit. Monitors not ready. Drive more he said. 1700 miles driving and 3 additional visits your monitors are not ready. No check engine lights. My iLAND test unit no issues. The independent completely trust worthy mechanic used 15 years finds no faults. Smog test attempted 1 more time. Waited 45 mins. Kept opening and closing the hood on the car before me. My intuition needed no more input. Go to another smog test and WOW. It passed! Paid more than most places. Did not get a refund but that is for the CA Smog Agency to address. read more
