We were there last night and the service was very slow. It took about 10 minutes to have a waitress come to take drink orders, and when we ordered our food, it was almost an hour before we ate. My husband ordered the Rib Sandwich, and was told half an hour after ordering it that the didn't have anymore, so he had to reorder. I ordered the beef sandwich and asked for it to be plain. Surprise when i bit into it I got a mouthful of Tomato and lettuce. Another person in our party had her drink mixed up. read more

This is a good spot for casual meal and beer. Huge beer (and Cider!!) selection. We went for the appetizer special (buy 5, get 1 free). We ordered the fried pickles, soft pretzel, jalapeño dip, and shrimp. We also ordered BBQ wings and Medium wings. Everything was good but not outstanding. Except for the pretzels, those were amazing and the mustard that is served with them is delicious!! I don't recommend the wings. The owner won't care about this review and I wish I remembered that before walking in, because this is the same guy who belittled and insulted anyone protesting him, and said he would have to lay off 25% of his staff if he had to pay them all a dollar more in wages. Perhaps that is what he did, and maybe his threat to switch to "frozen" materialized, but I had forgotten all this and simply went to a place my wife and I had never gone to before. Only when looking at other reviews was I reminded that this place is all about the owner and has nothing to do with the patrons. It was odd that only one waitress was covering for the entire place at 5pm in a downtown restaurant... till the minutes passed and this was not a lull... just the traffic they expected. She mostly knew the menu and only took 10 minutes to bring our food once the bell was rung and it was on the pass, but I wish she had just been honest that the "European fries" were just mildly seasoned potato wedges and that she showed a great deal more concern about the mouldy lemon wedge that came with my wifes extremely overcooked fish. I'm so glad my wife chose to avoid the bugs she worried about by not choosing the patio... Because we spent the next hour shooing house flies and fruit flies inside the place. Which might have been a smidge more tolerable if the food matched the prices... but hey, he warned us with his signs, didn't he. We're a year into what must be his vaunted Conservative government... so I'm back to being confused about the prices. The overpriced apps were not too bad (save for the slightly undercooked wings), and my burger was okay, but as I said, the battered fish was cooked to the consistency of chicken. There is a bartender there named Greg whose existence single handedly wins the argument for intelligent design. A humble, kind, yet powerful deity. Makes a great vodka soda. The servers are all goddesses and the food is prepared by witches and wizards with an amount of love and attention you can barely expect from your own grandmother. Wings are the best around and I have a serious wing problem, so I know what I'm talking about. Drink specials all the time and they have sports on all TVs. Ale House has a great half price app special on most nights after a certain time. My most recent visit I purchased the cheese sticks. Unfortunately when I bit into them I was expecting a bit more substance. Upon first bite, instead of a thick goey piece of cheese, it was just a melted liquid inside. It tasted okay but it could have used more. My experience with the apps makes me hesitant to order anything substantial from the menu. At least there are peanuts to enjoy instead! read more

I've been to the London Ale House a few times and as other people have mentioned it really can be hit or miss. I was here a couple of years ago for a Steam Whistle party which was awesome and then, a year later, as part of a large group for dinner which was unpleasant. My current four-star rating is based solely on my last visit, which was for BEERS ONLY. If that is your intention then this is certainly a viable option. My most pleasant experiences here has not involved food and their beer selection is good and the service is also not bad either. There are lots of TVs playing sports but also quiet corners to have a quiet conversation over beers -- which was my reason for recently attending. I actually don't remember much of the later part of the evening - which was the other part of my reason. If the weather is agreeable the patio in the back, while small, is a nice quiet spot in the middle of downtown. The patio out front, while even smaller, allows some people watching but not much of a view otherwise. My one complaint, over-and-above the food just being OK, is that the place seems to lack an identity. I mean, it is just a place to go and grab a few beers - which sometimes is all you are looking for. If that applies to you right now - then by all means head on over. CHEERS! read more

I have previously visited The Ale House over the past few years, but my visit on Saturday was the BEST, for these reasons: - 20 different apps to choose from, some very unique, and all priced at $5 all day everyday! Which is fantastic when Crabbies down the street makes you wait till 9pm for the same deal, but with half as many app options. - over 100 different beers to choose from! - lots of indoor space, tables and a bar - HUGE outdoor patio! Sofas are situated down the alley, and a large open patio with table occupies the back end. London Ale House was def a treat to visit. Myself and a friend arrived in London for the OAVT Conference around 7:30 on a Thursday and we wanted a cool place to chill and eat a quick dinner before heading to bed for the next morning. From our hotel, The Delta Armouries, we were able to see across the street a little pub that said "Great Food, Cheap Beer". So we decided to check it out after a quick facebook search had good reviews. We entered the place with high hopes and we were not let down. The decor was old style pub with an irish/scottish feel, and I found it very cozy. The apps were half off after 8:30 pm, and since we waited a bit before leaving the hotel to get the half off we were not disappointed. The food was super good, especially for the price they were being offered at. The waitress we had was super nice and a ball of laughs. The brownie skillet is legit the best brownie concoction I have ever eaten in my entire life. I would def recommend it!! This place is so meh to me. It's the kind of place I'll go to because my friends want to go there, but I'd never choose to go there myself. Generally service is pretty slow when I've been. It's usually fairly busy and other people seem to disagree with me, so maybe I've just got unlucky - but it does seem to be consistently on the slow side as far as getting drinks or orders or bills. Their food to me is not great. They do have some good stuff, but I've had more things that are subpar, or just OK. Lots of stuff that tastes like it came from a bag (though I don't think it is), under or over cooked, etc. I also find it a little expensive for what it is. When I go, it's generally just for drinks with friends, if I need to order food I'l go for whatever is on half-price special because it's really the only thing I feel like it's worth paying for. I don't think I've ever had anything here I've been wowed by. Their nachos are pretty decent but at a price of $17 it's a bit steep for what it is. One thing that does get to me about this place is that I consistently seem to get dirty dishes. Maybe I really am just unlucky? Forks with stuff stuck to them, cups with food stuck to the side, or one time a chunk of slimy god-knows-what in my coffee that just about made me throw up (I don't even want to know). I'm almost scared to eat here because of that, it's just gross. At the very least, I definitely don't order coffee there any more. However, recent changes to the menu have caused us to take our post dodgeball meal elsewhere. At our last visit our waitress was rude, argued with a member of our group and talked to me like I was stupid. They say that character is who you are when no one is looking. Given this definition, you may want to reconsider visiting The Alehouse restaurant on Dundas Street given the attitude of their management. A few of my friends and I decided to go to the Alehouse yesterday to celebrate St. Paddy's day with some food and drinks. We are regular customers and every Thursday they have drink specials. Normally, they charge $10 a pitcher and truth be told, it's a big reason that we go there. At the end of the evening, when received our bills, we noticed that they were charging more than they normally do. We would have just let it slide, but the when we asked the waitress about the discrepancy, she said she told us at the beginning of the night and that they raised the price because otherwise "they would not have enough kegs to fill the orders"?? We asked to speak to the manager and politely asked him about the price change, he said they changed it on the placard outside. I pointed out that even if they did do this, the signage on the tables, menus, and even on our bills should have been taken down for the day. I told him that we are regulars and was it really worth losing customers over a few dollars. He got very belligerent at this point and said he wouldn't help us now that we were threatening him. So, needless to say, I will not be returning and encourage everyone to think twice about supporting this business. read more

Its their 5th birthday with $5pm deals on. I got their classic burger with a poutine. The burger tastes off, almost like there is too much breadcrumbs and spices in the patty. The burger though is juicy and the poutine delectable. The ultimate baconator burger was very big but was $14.99 and i dont think it was worth the money due to the off tasting burger. Horribly disappointing. We were in about 9pm on a Tuesday night. They weren't overly busy. We stood at the 'please wait to be seated' sign for a good few minutes before we were greeted. We asked to sit on the patio and the server shoved 2 menus into my hand and told us to seat ourselves. Weird, but ok. Two servers were working the patio, both of whom actively avoided us. No drink menu was provided either which is ridiculous for a place named The Ale House! We sat for nearly 10 minutes looking at the food menu with no one even establishing eye contact to let us know that they'd be with us soon. Got up, walked out, and went next door to Crabby Joe's.
