My husband and i went to Hunter & Co for dinner on Saturday evening. This was our second visit, although the first was 5 years ago. We were greeted and seated as soon as we entered the restaurant. Even though we had made a reservation, we were given the choice of 3 tables, which we really appreciated. We ordered two cocktails to start. I had the Flora Mexican which was amazing! it was floral, a little sweet, a little sour and just the perfect amount of yum. I loved it. My husband had the Improved Whisky Cocktail. It was also very good, with Rye, Maraschino and a nice hit of Absinthe. We decided to share some items from the crudo part of the menu. We had the salmon carpaccio which came with squid ink crackers and some lovely little pickled items. It was outstanding. We had the tuna tataki which also had lots of little pickled items and was amazing, but for me the actual tuna stole the show. The last item we ordered was the venison tartare. OMG, it was fabulous. The flavour of the venison was wonderful and the chili and capers just added so much to the dish. The cured egg yolk shaved on top gave it a subtle hint of saltiness. Everything was fantastic. The service was great and the ambience was too. We will most definitely be back when we return to London. Highly recommend this place. read more

This place just robs your money with bad service, mediocre and small portion food. I had terrible experience with dinner takeout recently. We ordered four appetizers and a beef cheek as main dish to share and trust them in placing the order. They charged us near $100, so we didn't notice they were missing out main dish until we came back (some distances away). When I opened up the four appetizers, they were really small portion which was only filling for birds. We had to order something else from another restaurant nearby in the end. As a reference, most of us in the group are small eaters. Now it came to the food quality. Chicken liver brulee was undercooked. The squash dish was so flavourless. Tuna aburi was not fresh and no flavour again. The only okay dish was the charcuterie board. The chef seems to miss the most basic cooking fundamentals and waitress here is not paying attention to order at all. I don't recommend this place to any of you. read more

The food plating and fusion food ideas were out of this world. Along with the ambiance that I enjoyed thoroughly. The disappointment lies in the lack of freshness in the food that I was served. The corn tortilla for my single chicken skin taco was tough, stale, and unenjoyable to bite into. My Korean fried chicken was hard as rocks. Visiting London and searching for best oyster in town. Found this gem. The restaurant was full and very small. We were seated in the bar. The staffs are very nice and friendly, they explained every detail in the menu. They serve small plate tapas style menu which is shareable. This was a true 5 star experience. My wife and I selected Hunter & Co based on other reviews as well as some of the unique twists they seemed to have to their menu. We were impressed through and through. The drink menu was short and simple but all three drinks we ordered were fantastic. Our food tastings started with a dozen oysters, which we decided to sample all 6 varieties they had on offer. The oysters were well shucked, and nicely presented. We stuck to the cucumber mignonette and the pineapple habanero sauces for toppings, which were fresh and a great pairing. Next up was the Duck Dumplings. These were very well done, as were the heirloom carrot accompaniments. The black vinegar drizzle set it all off very nicely. Our third plate was the Hunter & Co Fried Chicken. The chicken was perfectly cooked, with a wonderful crunch. The honey bourbon sauce drizzled on top was delicious, but I think the star of the plate were the pickled veggies. Our fourth plate was (as advertised by our lovely waitress Olivia?) the highlight of the night. The Chicken Liver Brûlée. My god was this unreal. So full of flavour, and the unique addition of the brûlée to this dish was genius. Don't skip out on this dish, it will knock your socks off, trust me. We were still up for one last dish, and decided to go with the burrata. The cheese to bread ratio was fantastic, and the pesto was very fresh. The star of this dish was the house made bread though, it was something else. All in all it was a pricey meal for the two of us, but I can honestly say it was the best meal through and through I've had in a long time, maybe ever. read more

Innovative cocktails in the $11-14 range. The Rhuby Tuesday was fine, but I wouldn't order it again. Specialty cocktails made upon request. Modest number of wines by the glass. Similarly small food menu. Oysters are priced by the piece. Although the dishes are advertised as small plates, they are of generous proportions. Bacon-wrapped bacon was a hit, as was the cashew shrimp and roast bone marrow. The burger was less well received. Service was fine. Jason worked to meet my dietary requirements. Tuesdays they have date night. It's an app, a dish and a drink each. Looking to try that soon. A nice night out for grown-ups. Sophisticated but not stuffy. This restaurant just opened its doors November 2017. I LOVED the feel and atmosphere of this place. It is a great place for a cocktail and tapas plates. The servers were so friendly and explained the menu with much detail. This is a place I would go with a friend, on a date, or a special outing to enjoy and socialize. Although it is a small location, it has a very swanky and cool vibe. If you are ever going to an event at the Budweiser Gardens or wanting to go downtown for something new, GOOD, and different. When I asked my partner what he would like to do for this birthday, he said all he wanted was great cocktails and good company. After some researching, I called Hunter & Co. They were able to slot us in on a Friday night for 10 people. It was tight but manageable! This place has taken a complete 180 from the coffee shop it once was. Dark walls, antler decor, comfy booths and a fantastic bar, this spot has a great feel for a night out with friends. It doesn't have that arrogant feeling that a fancy tapas restaurant could have. It doesn't take itself too seriously. I really enjoyed the menu, both drink and food. The food menu was cheeky and I loved reading the descriptions of the plates. There was a ton of options! We ordered the Korean fried chicken and it was awesome! Everyone who ordered food was very happy with their decisions. We journeyed through the cocktail menu. There's a lot of different and unique cocktails and many of them were fantastic! There was only one we didn't like. Our server was funny, attentive, and seemed to really enjoy what he was doing. I think that really put the cherry on top of the night. I really enjoyed dining at Hunter& Co and I cannot wait to check it out again sometime soon! read more

We will definitely be coming back for their chicken liver brulee - - a heavenly, creamy pate packed with flavour and a touch of sweetness. It's fantastically addictive when served with endless fresh bread. Other items we tried were less exciting. Their burger was small and had an unimpressive bun, patty, sauce, and slice of processed cheese. Their "steak frites" was more like a poutine with a few thin slices of steak on top, if that's what you enjoy. Still, I'm dying to try the rest of their ever-evolving menu! read more

I tried some of their fare when they catered a holiday even last Wednesday night...it was so good, we went there after the event to soak up the ambiance of the beautiful, dark, wood bar, and so I could try some of their fresh oysters. Now this in itself is an AMAZING thing, as I am vegetarian, and do not eat fish. But.....after the reviews of friemds who have become regulars of this place, and the manager/owner (?) Dave telling me about them, I had to try them! Without a doubt, after Dave taking time to offer suggestions of toppings I might like to try having never had freshly shucked oysters before, and understanding how to eat them, I tried one with a beautiful grated cucumber topping & some fresh squeezed lemon. It was not difficult to eat at all, and I found it both refreshing and delicious! A total convert! I tried a few different homemade toppings on some more oysters which I might add, werw ice cold. Really nice experience to have food that is so fresh and of high quality! I look forward to trying them again! I also tried their house Hunter lager which was a nice, light beer, and a few other small bites at the event that was catered. In particular, I loved some of the beautiful cheese selections on their charcuterie boards (The Lancaster was fantastic!), as well, loved the "Tongue & Cheek" (mushroom lasagna bites). A great new lounge which you should probably check out. Small plate style dining with a selection of fresh oysters as well. Great decor with dark walls adorned with various animal skulls. Service was very friendly and the bartender puts together some excellent custom concoctions. I enjoyed some oysters, the Korean fried chicken and the heirloom tomato salad. I've been looking forward to dining here since their opening, and had the pleasure of doing so recently. The restaurant is tucked away between several businesses, so you could easily miss it walking by, but you'd be missing out! The ambiance inside is warm and inviting, although the lighting is kept quite minimal and dark. The staff are very welcoming and attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu. They provided us with detailed explanations and suggestions of the drink and food menu alike. My dinner companion and I enjoyed wine from their small, but curated selections. We also opted to share several plates: The beet and heirloom tomato salad was very fresh and light, and presented quite beautifully overall. Our next dish was the Halloumi Tikka Masala - Being East Indian, I take my Tikka Masala's pretty seriously, and this was a great twist! It had a nice curry flavour, although not as spicy as 'typical' Tikka Masala dishes. Our final dish was the pumpkin seed crusted whitefish, which was the best dish of the night! It was beautiful in presentation, and well-seasoned, with tomatoes and vegetables to accompany the dish in a lovely creamy sauce. Overall, I was incredibly impressed by the experience. This restaurant is a welcome addition to London's culinary scene! I was hoping that they would have some of their feature dishes and specials to offer, including those I had seen online and had been hoping to try during my visit, such as the tuna and scallop dishes. TLDR: Everything was great but just not perfect. Great tapas style restaurant with a great social atmosphere. Definitely give this place a go for a great dinner. We came here on a Friday night and it was busy with a good vibe. When we arrived, our email reservation that was confirmed was lost but the manager was quick to act and got us a seat within minutes (props to him). Their drinks menu didn't have an extensive list but it was solid with a good selection in each category. We ordered the Pig Ear Poutine, Halloumi Tikki Masala, and the Bone Marrow. Pig Ear Poutine: The pig ear works really well with the Poutine and fries themselves tasted really good. I get it's a Poutine, but it was a little too salty for my taste but still really good and I'm sure it's within the range of what other people like. Halloumi Tikki Masala: This dish was well balanced with great flavours. As a dish you eat with a baguette, I had wished it were a little more saucy so the bread could absorb a little more of the flavour but still a really good dish. Bone Marrow: This was a 5 for me. Came with 3 bones which is more than many other restaurants. It was served on a board with baguettes and toppings. Tasted great, no complaints. Finally the service was wonderful. They fixed the reservation issue quickly, our server was attentive and checked in with us after each dish, and were very friendly and welcoming. The manager went the extra mile and comp'ed our drinks for the reservation problems. All in all a great restaurant with great staff. Really great food here! I went with a group and we opted for the Chef's choice and had various dishes brought out to us. Everything we tried was delicious. I plan to go back soon to try the dishes that we didn't have a chance to try. Service was awesome too! The only reason I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the bathrooms. For such a beautiful and more upscale place, they only have two single bathrooms, both with malfunctioning toilets. I'm sure once they get going they will have them fixed. read more
