The frame and woodwork on these chairs was in very good condition, but the upholstery was a tapestry look that was worn and had tears. I wanted these chairs to be renewed but without destroying their late 1800s character. I opted for a green velvet. I was confident that Mary would take good care of these chairs when she saw them and got excited about the restoration. These chairs turned out beautiful - Mary restored the springs, batting and straps to preserve the firm but comfortable seating. The velvet and piping work are beautiful. The man who I forget his name but said he's been cutting foam for 40 years even tho he tried other jobs ups being one of them. He gave me 3 quotes from cheapest to highest quality.
