This hospital caused catastrophic, life-altering harm to my partner…read more I brought him to Lone Peak Emergency Room after a work-related injury that resulted in severe cervical spine trauma. Despite clear symptoms of neck injury, they refused to perform cervical imaging due to "range of motion limitations." Instead, they insisted on a CT scan to rule out a pulmonary embolism, an unrelated concern. During this scan, 80 mL of ISOVUE-370 contrast dye was extravasated into his left bicep, a high-volume injection of a known cytotoxic vesicant when introduced into soft tissue. The radiology tech documented the infiltration ("IV infiltration noted"), yet no protocol was followed, no aspiration, no elevation, no surgical consult, no imaging of the injury site, no follow-up. He was simply discharged less than two hours later. Within days, multiple abscesses developed in his scalene and longus colli muscles, leading to a cervical spinal epidural abscess, septic spread, and ultimately a complete spinal cord injury (tetraplegia). He is still hospitalized and now permanently disabled. ISOVUE-370 carries FDA warnings and manufacturer guidance requiring prompt intervention when extravasated. Lone Peak Hospital violated standard post-extravasation care protocols, failed to monitor the injury site, and provided no documentation or guidance upon discharge. I have reported the radiologist and the facility to the Utah Department of Professional Licensing and the Utah Department of Health. This level of negligence is indefensible. No patient, regardless of past medical history, should be dismissed or harmed like this. If you or your loved one are injured, I urge you: do not go to Lone Peak Hospital.

This experience happened over a month ago and I have reflected and still felt the need to post :…read more My mother, who has stage 4 cancer, was admitted to Alta View after we left another emergency department due to excessive wait times. The initial intake experience at Alta View was positive -- the staff member who checked us in was kind, efficient, and compassionate. Unfortunately, the level of care declined significantly after admission. While my mother was not physically harmed, there were repeated instances where she was made to feel like a burden rather than a patient deserving dignity and support. During the day, family members were present to advocate for her. At night, when we relied on staff, her emotional and basic care needs were often overlooked. To be fair, there were some nurses who provided excellent care, which suggests this is not an issue of individual staff capability, but rather a systemic problem related to management, communication, and hospital policies. A particularly concerning experience involved the attending physician, whose bedside manner was lacking and, at times, inappropriate. He attributed my mother's denial for transfer to a nursing facility to her refusal of two therapy sessions during a two-week stay. This explanation failed to consider the context: she had acute gastrointestinal symptoms and had often just completed one therapy session when another provider arrived, indicating poor coordination between care teams. We also requested emotional support resources for my mother, who lost her husband less than a year ago and is coping with advanced cancer. The response was limited to a paper being dropped off in her room, with no meaningful follow-up or connection to services. Obtaining assistance with Medicaid application required repeated requests. It was only after I personally escalated the issue to a charge nurse -- who then persistently followed up -- that any action was taken. Operational issues also impacted care. The cafeteria closes at 8 PM, leaving patients who miss ordering time with limited and unsuitable food options, particularly problematic for those with nausea or digestive conditions. The discharge process was confusing and poorly communicated. We were initially told to prepare to leave without adequate planning for a safe placement. It was only after I questioned whether discharge could be enforced that we learned we could remain until appropriate arrangements were made. Discharge paperwork was delivered without discussion, and we had to proactively confirm whether it was safe to leave. Finally, during discharge transport, it was discovered that my mother's port had not been de-accessed. This resulted in a prolonged and distressing situation where staff appeared uncertain about proper procedure, causing unnecessary discomfort. This experience took place during an already extremely difficult period for our family. Hospitals play a critical role not only in clinical treatment but in preserving patient dignity, especially for those facing life-limiting illness. While there were individual staff members who showed genuine care, the overall experience reflected significant breakdowns in communication, coordination, and patient-centered support. I am sharing this in hopes that leadership will address these systemic issues so that other families navigating serious illness are not left feeling they must constantly advocate for basic standards of care.

I was out of work due to a horrible car accident It took 2 months to see a PA for my fractured back( ridiculous) I do not feel the PA actually knew what she was doing . I would ask questions and she became very defensive. . The entire clinic from the very beginning was awful. They made healing nearly impossible. They refused to sign state disability forms .Let me repeat they refused . Never did they ask what my requirements were to go back to work . I offered they declined . I was informed I was not making my appointments( false as I have prove I rescheduled. ) I wanted to come every week so I could gain my strength to return to my physically demanding job. Physical therapist Bennion told me that I did not need to come that often . I was given a referral to occupational medicine whom I called. They informed me they take work related injuries only . They then refused to listen to my own job stating what I need to do before I return . In essence they called me a liar. They then falsified my disability paperwork. I went to pick it up, the refused to let me see it ( said it was in my chart which it never ever has been ) . I calmly waited for them to let me see it and I was given a photocopy. The information was wrong . When I calmly never did even raise my voice I spoke to the nursing supervisor she yelled at me said she will not speak to me. I asked to discuss why my own paperwork was sent without the incorrect information. She said "nobody will talk to you " the security officer and all the clerk staff were there to witness this event . I never raised my voice . I never used profanity. I just wanted my information back as they had mailed it without my permission. I was told I had to leave the clinic because I did not have an appointment ( nor did half the people there ) I asked why. I was told security was here to escort me off the property. Wow! You would think I was screaming or yelling and cussing . I never received an answer . I called customer service. Breianna ( as I recall her name and Matt or Mike were quite rude and condescending. Then for toppers I received a letter in my chart that I had better change my behavior or they will dismiss me . Oh my word . If I did not experience this i wouldn't believe it . My job was shocked . The jeopardized my job and my disability paycheck was delayed for over a month . Thank you to this clinic . I now know what horrible medical care is like . I do hope nobody has to ever experience this level of utter incompetence ever again.
