I accidentally put a ring on my finger yesterday that absolutely does not fit and struggled all night to get it off. My finger became swollen and I panicked. Fortunately, I read that firefighters have the right tool for ring removal and as I work close to Station 10, I drove over there this morning and the crew saved my finger and my ring with just one cut. They were gentle and compassionate and listened to me talk about my son who will become a full-fledged paramedic this coming Friday. :) read more

Why doesn't the Long Beach Fire Department know which of five driveways to enter our seven building facility when they get an alarm of fire in one of them?We have had several recent fires and valuable time was lost with fire apparatus repositioning and moving around not knowing the buildings layout within. This is a life threatening issue since time is of the essence in saving lives and property during a fire. Yet I have been a resident here for 32 years and we have yet to have any practice fire drills or fire prevention presentations from any of the Long Beach Fire Department personnel to discuss vitally important information to the residents or have any sort of drills to familiarize themselves with the layout of the power, waterflow, structural design, alarm systems until there is fire here and then they show their unpreparedness to trapped residents while scurrying around to determine building address numbers. #3 Fire Truck and Ambulance.. Disrespect bullies. I called for a homeless man and the way they were with him was very unprofessional.

In 2018 Station 8 responded to a call at my parents house. They were rude and combative. Happened again in Nov 2021 when I called for service at my home for my mother. The Department used to be an amazing group to work with. Prior to these experiences I would have rated them 5 stars. Interesting that we never received a survey from the department nor any follow up (like they used to). Either leadership is influencing the culture or they are hiring a bunch of thugs. If the department is interested in honest feedback feel free to respond here. I'm a reasonable person and don't typically feel the need to publicly document these things but something has to change. We pay way too much for salaries and pensions for them to treat members of the community like that. read more

THREE CHEERS for our Long Beach Fire Department! Long Beach residents love our Long Beach Firefighters. What GREAT team work was shown tonight at 330 W Ocean Blvd. (The Blackstone Building). A resident was stuck in our smaller elevator in-between the 5th and 6th floors and the Long Beach Fire Department was here immediately within minutes to help. Each firefighter worked tirelessly and as a team they were able to help get the doors open and communicate with the resident, speaking to him the whole time reassuring him to keep him calm. The elevator repair worker came and is fixing the elevator. What ingenuity our Long Beach Firefighters bestow! Keep on, keeping on guys! Thank you for your kindness and great respectability you show to each person. You are the best! read more

I was on 7th Street riding my Recumbent Trike to the BA hospital. Between Santiago Av and Park Av on the ocean side there was an old guy laying on the sidewalk partially covered wIth a sHort blanket. A wheelchair was on its side next to him. Well I flagged the first public servant, Mark, I saw. He was in a Long Beach Transit SUV. He pulled around and then he called for paramedics. It wasn't long when they arrived in force, an engine, a paramedic unit, and two then three police SUV's. All total, about 11 first responders. The important thing was Long Beach came out to help a fellow resident when he was in need of medical attention, food, and drink. That's it. Thank you. I helped a young lady who'd likely been given a date rape drug. She said "help me" and wouldn't let go of my hand as she lost consciousness. I waited with her until police and EMT arrived, and I documented on Facebook Live to ensure that there was evidence that I was just there to help. When they did arrive, the EMT were all male and stood around the unconscious female in a way that made me uncomfortable, so I asked that a female accompany the unconscious female to wherever they took her. I took some of my progeny to Mother's Beach yesterday (Tuesday, 6/19/18) and there was a moderate crowd of mostly kids ages 3-14. The relatively few moms and granny's were filming, posting, watching and visiting with one another. There were eyes on the water though! Long Beach Fire Department has Life Guards stationed every 50 yards or so. They were constantly changing stations and hopefully taking frequent breaks. Supervision requires intense focus, it's exhausting and mostly boring. I was keeping one eye on each of my little (non) swimmers. One of them was lower in the water than I liked but hadn't sunk, I got up and saw he was out of his depth - still not drowning - went in to tow him closer and there was a life guard right behind me! He told me "thank you". I forgot to thank him! So if you all could do it; please tell the young man with the full light brown mustache that the fat grandma said "Thank You". read more

Just finished my ride along with Long Beach Fire Department Station 2 Fire Captain Knopp and his kick ass team. I learned a lot today. The planning and training is next level. These men are true professionals and some of the most noble and thoughtful public servants I have ever met. The way they treat the public, including the homeless, is nothing short of awe inspiring.
