If your looking for hectic or fast paced,keep looking. The Pacific Ocean is awe Inspiring in itself. Add to that, miles of clean, flat, soft, almost velvet like sand. "Shut the front door." Wait. You can what? Drive onto the beach! Ya, there is public beach access and you can drive out onto the sand, if your car is capable. The surf is pretty mellow is this area, but is known for its "Rip Tides." Be aware. We've only been here a few times but we love exploring the beach and nearby downtown Long Beach with all it's all it's shops and restaurants. I'm already thinking about our next visit.

On a sunny day, in any month, the view is just spectacular. You can see both Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens from the beach area. The beach is clothing optional and people are in all variations from nude, to topless, to clothed. So if walking around naked isn't your thing, don't let that stop you. You do you and everyone else will do themselves. It all works. As you drive down NW Raider, you will pass the Island Cove Market. if you haven't bought a permit to park, stop here to get one. It's $7 a day or $30 for an annual pass, well worth it. Don't neglect to buy the permit, they patrol frequently and will fine or tow!!! After the Island Cove Market you will pass a beach - you will know based on the cars all parked on the left and a hill to the right with several stairs and handrails taking you over the small hill to beach. Keep driving. When you hit the gravel road, you are in Clothing Optional Beach territory. Anywhere along this several mile stretch, park your car to the left and walk through the various marked paths to the right. When you walk through the clearing, you will be delighted by the sight of a decent sized white sandy beach, the river sprawled out in front of you with views across the water to the grass and trees. Plus Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood standing proud. It's stunning! And so peaceful. There are no bathroom facilities. This is Sauvie Island and it's not built up or commercialized. That's part of the charm and why it remains so pristine. There are porta potties located every 40 feet or so along the parking area. As well as garbage bins. Do take all your trash with you, don't leave it on the beach. This beach is great for long walks, sunbathing, picnics, floating or swimming in the water. In the summer, the water is actually pretty warm. And few waves other than when a large barge goes by and creates some waves. So if you like stunning scenery, peace and quiet plus water you can swim in, check it out! I plan on frequenting often this summer. I'll be the one in full bathing suit and a sun hat!

We went there early on a Saturday and didn't have trouble finding parking, and we also used in the restroom facilities, which I do NOT recommend (bad awful stench). It does provide beach access, (which is what we were there for), for both pedestrians and cars, so it was incredibly disappointing and unpleasant having to deal with bumper to bumper traffic while walking along the beach. The beach itself offers gorgeous views of the ocean, seaside mountains, and rock formations along the water.

From the moment I arrived, I knew this was the spot to have bonfires. The beach itself is wide and inviting, and Haystack Rock towers out of the ocean just off the shore, a stunning icon that draws everyone's eye. But it's not just the shoreline that makes Cannon Beach special. You can walk along the neighborhoods and enjoy the cute little shops. Downtown is small but charming. I loved walking through the artsy streets filled with galleries, specialty shops, and cozy cafés. I was able to slow down away from city life, shop for a handmade memento, and sit with a latte watching the waves. On a breezy afternoon, I saw people flying their kites and took advantage of the open beach breeze, so fun to watch. If you want a beautifully scenic beach getaway that's both peaceful and inspiring, Cannon Beach is absolutely worth a stop.

With being the location for the popular Haystack Rock, you'd think this beach would be so crowded,…read morebut it is pleasantly not. On top of that, Canon Beach is so easily accessible. There are tons of access points to the beach, but the easiest is to park in the Haystack Public Parking lot and walk across the street, past the public bathrooms and homes, and you're immediately in front of Haystack Rock. Besides Haystack Rock, Canon Beach itself was kinda boring to me though. The long stretch was rockless and smooth, just sand and ocean horizon. My preference is to see more boulders and rocks to keep things interesting. This beach is excellent for runners, though, because of the smooth sand and long stretch. There were a lot of people clustered around Haystack Rock, but less dense further on. If you're looking for seashells, there are none. The sand is super smooth all the way. It is a nice beach but not too many people hang out here, which is great if you're local. For the most part, we saw people come to see the Rock and then leave.

Eld Inlet is located at the Southern Edge of Puget Sound in Olympia. It's about 6 miles long. The…read moremost southern edge of the inlet is called Mud Bay. We stayed at a beach house here during the long 4th of July weekend for some much-needed relaxation. It's so close to the city yet secluded enough so it feels like a small vacation away from home. The weather was perfect. We took advantage of paddle boarding and kayaking. We were even greeted by a curious Sea Otter and a humongous Jelly Fish that seemed like it was 2 1/2 feet wide. *shivers* The water and the view were amazing!! There's a considerable difference between low tide and high tide so I'd keep an eye out for the tide tables. During low tide, you can go for long walks along the beach and do some beach combing. During high tide, that same beach is non-existent. Perfect time to take the paddle board or kayak out so I don't have to walk the length of the beach to get in the water. I would frequently see Oyster boats go by. Apparently Eld Inlet is known for growing the richest oysters. Something about the algae in the inlet gives the oyster meat its yellowish creamy color... buttery. The same conditions in Eld Inlet that grow sweet oysters also produce very thin shells. There are also several Sandy beach areas in Eld Inlet that are open to the public.

But Washaway beach is actually located in…read morea very tiny town/community in North Cove Washington, between the town of Grayland and the town of Raymond. Be aware please, there are serious undercurrents. I actually got swept up in one there and I am a seriously good swimmer. I had to be rescued. And I truly thought I was gonna die. Here's what the problem was folks: I was not wearing my life jacket what an idiot! There are several fun things you can do at this beach: If you have a volleyball net and Legs nobody is going to stop you from having fun doing volleyball. There's a really great reason for this there is a lot of beach! Truly nobody gets crowded there at least from what I've seen. There's plenty of people on the beach but not 5 feet away from you. I just want to touch back on the nickname Washaway beach: it's a beach that's been washing away and has taken mobile homes stick built homes entire neighborhoods in fact. But there is a structural engineer that was able to put a stop on it. You can look it up just look up structural engineer for Washaway beach. Here's something you may not know I find it delightful though. You can drive on the beach because it's an actual highway! The drivers are extremely careful don't even worry about that but the best part about it is you can park where you want to set up your stuff! Now don't tell your parents this: but it is the best place in the world that I have been to for kite flying! They also have a clamming season and they're delicious.

I was surprised since there…read morewas a restroom with plumbing right next to the beach, in addition to the one at the trailhead. I guess it gets very busy during the summer. The trail is well marked and well maintained, with only one or two muddy areas which are easily navigated to avoid getting wet. I wasn't able to get close to Blumenthal Falls on the north end of Short Sand Beach due to the tide and waves, but I could see it from the end of the trail on the beach. It's on of the very few waterfalls in the PNW that cascades into the Pacific Ocean. Very pretty! The beach itself is very picturesque as it's located in a cove surrounded by mountains. Several benches are present to let you take it all in.

The trails go off in different directions with decent signage along the way. Let's be real, the Oregon coastline is gorgeous no matter where you decide to stop off, and Short Sand is no different. Two creeks emerge from the trees flowing onto the sands and into what feels like a huge "cove" with great waves (at least this day) and a lovely beach. Beautiful spot! I can see why it's so busy during most of the year, but it's sooo peaceful right now during the winter!
