Absolutely stunning views. *Privacy in campgrounds: 1 star You will enjoy no separation from neighboring campsites. Enjoy dinner with all other surrounding sites staring at you! Plus, if tent camping, you can hear the neighbors whisper. *Cleanliness of campsite: 5 stars Not a piece of trash in the campsite. Was well cleaned. *Location of restrooms/showers: 4 stars Took less than 2 minutes to walk to the restrooms/showers located in the center of the loop. *Cleanliness of restrooms: 3 stars Not good, not bad. Floors haven't been swept in a long time. Everywhere is sticky. *Cleanliness of showers: 1 star F-loop showers were NASTY. Fishing lure in the drain, hair on the walls, gum stuck to the floor, diapers left inside. WEAR SHOES WHILE YOU SHOWER. E-Loop showers next door were much, much more reasonable. *Noise: 1 star Quiet hours are from 10pm-7am. However, it is not enforced. Every single other camper quieted down around 10pm. Except for one exceptionally loud group who continued to be loud and obnoxious until midnight. We were harassed by this group but didn't have a problem with anyone else. Well that's not the case at all with Cape Disappointment State Park. It is truly an amazing place. You get to see two lighthouses, beautiful views, the ocean and if you're lucky maybe even a whale. Which is exactly what we did see. We saw a Gray Whale lazing about in the water with it's fin treading water before quietly disappearing into the water. Of course taking in nature walks and hikes are a good option here too if it suits your fancy. I can definitely recommend very highly in regards to visiting this lovely park. It's truly a great one for the state!

The bathrooms and showers were also better than other places we have stayed at. All of the staff were amazing and fun to talk with. Check in was very easy. The store had a lot to offer from groceries, gifts and souvenirs, and camping needs to make your stay more comfortable. There were tent sites, rv sites with full hookup, cabins with and without bathrooms. We went a few days after Labor Day so it was not very crowded (bonus!)

That said, there were several issues that made our stay disappointing. The campground is very spread out, making group camping difficult, and the bathrooms are so far from some campsites that late-night trips are unrealistic. Adding portable restrooms in between would make a huge difference. The showers in Comfort Station 2 also had a noticeable mildew smell. The biggest concern was how our family was treated. One guest repeatedly yelled at our children while they were riding scooters, and when the adults calmly addressed the situation, it quickly escalated into hostility. A staff member encouraged us to file a complaint, but another employee told us we probably shouldn't because they might remove both parties, or side with the other guest. They even stated that if police were called, we'd likely be the ones going to jail because we're Black. That comment alone made us feel unsupported and unsafe. Finally, we were uncomfortable seeing a decorative noose hanging in the activity center. Combined with the cabin numbering ("KK") and our experience, it created an atmosphere that felt deeply unsettling. This campground has a lot of potential, but our experience left us feeling unwelcome. One K away from KKK!

Even if you're not a huge history buff, this place does an incredible job of bringing the Lewis and Clark Expedition to life. Walking through the reconstructed fort made it easy to imagine what life was like for the Corps of Discovery as they spent the winter of 1805-1806 preparing for the long journey home. The visitor center is well done, with informative exhibits, friendly park rangers, and plenty of historical information that adds context before you explore the fort. The reconstruction itself is impressive, and the surrounding forest helps create an authentic atmosphere. It's amazing to think that after traveling more than 4,000 miles, Lewis and Clark and their team called this place home for 106 days. The walking trails around the fort are peaceful and beautifully maintained, making it easy to spend a couple of hours exploring the area. We appreciated how clean the park was and how passionate the staff were about sharing the site's history. Whether you're interested in American history, the Oregon Coast, or simply looking for a unique stop near Astoria, Fort Clatsop is well worth visiting. It's educational without feeling overwhelming, family-friendly, and offers a deeper appreciation for one of the greatest expeditions in American history. Anyways, Fort Columbia State Park is considered one of the most intact historic coastal defense sites in the U.S, and it's built like a tank. Many of the structures are still intact. I'll have to come back as we visited during the off season, and so The Interpretive Center was closed as was were the other buildings. There are also two vacation houses for rent on park property, so if you're a history buff, definitely check it out and stay a night!

This park may seem rough when you first enter, but that's the only time you'll feel it. Staff is so friendly and we couldn't ask for a better setup...campsite was grassy along the water, the hookups were perfect...my kids fished and kayaked from the dock. Oh! Don't forget the short walk to the ocean right up the street!
