We were promised a "two to four week" wait on a fence around our yard. it is going on three months since we hired them and the job is still not completed. Instead of a team of professionals, we got one poor guy digging posts around our large yard. The last part of the fence involved altering some stairs and that has taken another full month before they even showed up to start the job! After finally started the job, they left it undone. We live on a very busy street and our dog got out yesterday because of the gaping hole they have left in the unfinished fence and stairs. We hired them for our last house back in 2012 and they were great, but I have been nothing but frustrated and disappointed this go around. DO NOT use this company. read more

Installation, materials and customer service were bad. Long Fence did a horrible job installing our fence. The fence is several inches off the ground in places. The installer tried to hide the defective job by piling mounds of dirt under the worst locations. I contacted Long Fence and discussed the issue. I was told to contact a specific person. I did. I spoke to him and sent an email and photos. I heard nothing. Several days later, we received a call from Long Fence asking how the follow up customer service appointment had gone and asking for remaining payment. I told that person that there had been no follow up f. That person promised to have customer service call. I heard nothing. I walked the fence again and noted several additional problems. Boards are cracked or otherwise broken. Other boards are starting to curl and separate away from the fence. Screws that are much too long have been used on hinges. To call the job sloppy would be too kind. read more

Long Fence may have been a good company years ago, but now they are nothing but a broker for sub contractors. We agreed to get a fence and patio installed by them and only got the fence. The fence was built incorrectly the first time (not the subcontractors fault, it was the incorrect measurements by Long Fence.) There are still holes in our backyard that need to be filled from them having to rebuild our fence. There was little to no communication outside of our salesmen. After we informed them that we wanted to cancel the patio project they miraculously found a subcontractor to get the work done. We still decided not to have it installed. This was by far the worst experience I've had with a company in a long time. Do yourself a favor and find a local contractor to do better work with better pricing. read more

I ordered the windows back in July 2024 and the condo association approved them by in August 2024. It is February 3, 2025 and they are still not installed. But yet the windows are paid off in full. The company has not try to contact us to let me know how much longer I must wait, because a part for the windows to be installed is not in stock. I was pretty much told, "I'm not sure why or who told you to call this number. I am aware of the issues. Passing my call around and then asking me why I called in response to YOUR REQUEST for me to call just further underscores the fact that I made a BAD decision to use LF!! I will not name names, but I spoke with SEVERAL people in positions of leadership and I became even more disappointed after those conversations. This was a complete and total nightmare!! Read the Google reviews too. The only thing that went "well" was making the initial payment. The staff are rude!! The "managers" irritated me so bad to had to hang up the phone, it practically became a shouting match. They accept ZERO responsibility regarding the poor and damaged product they produce. I received collection calls regarding the balance that was due BEFORE the installation was completed. This was a situation where I was tempted to remove the fence and return it the manager. They NEVER call back when they say they will. The workmanship is atrocious. The installers tried to force me to sign the work order saying installation was completed. The company had to return to my home over 15 times over the course of 13 months. There were several visits where the "new" materials were unable to be installed because it was more damaged than the materials that were already installed (see pics). It was so bad that some of the installers refused to do anything as THEY were embarrassed about the product they were supposed to install. I was threatened with legal action if payment wasn't made. My attorney advised that it would be cheaper to pay the balance that was due and less of a headache than it would be for her to take the case and win (which would have been a piece of cake). One of the installation crews had the audacity to give me a can of spray paint ("per her manager") to touch up the posts. They left trash in both my neighbors yards as well as mine. The trash included portions of cuts posts that were 12-18 inches long, bolts, nuts, links, shrink wrap and paper. One crew used MY trash can to mix cement!!! Do yourself a favor and RUN!!! read more

Their sales Rep was very ignorant and unprofessional. As soon as I greeted this guy, his entire energy was awful. I even asked him if he wanted to do this another day because he was abrasive unprofessional. He spoke badly about his own company....and badly about the competitors in the area and accused them of discriminatory practices. He definitely seemed to be a person that has an issue with dealing with black customers. Making slick comments about using "drug money" for the deposit. He mentioned how he was "Italian" as if that was suppose to mean something. He showed up at MY house without wearing a mask regardless of us being outside at the beginning of this meeting. Stay away from long fence. They wasted an entire day of my time with a large $$,$$$ estimate for a fence where we walked the property and discussed gate options. They either fired the guy or he quit after the estimate date and I was never even put into their system. The estimate was lost and management blamed it on me for not checking in with them after 6 weeks of no updates on the next phase of the fence. The estimate was also done incorrectly with materials from what I was told and he also price gouged further than he was supposed to. They were "sending their best guy" to do the estimate a second time and he no-showed his own appointment with no prior notification that he would be absent. Only after I called customer service did my phone ring from long fence an hour beyond their second failed estimate appointment. They can't even get an estimate right even after trying. The team of professional fence installers arrived early and ready to work. I appreciated it very much and despite the rain they were confident that the job could be completed. Their precision and efficiency allowed the job to be completed without any difficulties. I just love the way my fence looks with the privacy and security it brings. If I could give zero stars, I would. As stated in our contract, Long Fence was supposed to get a permit for our fence. They told us a permit is not needed. Months later, the county shows up and says a permit is needed and we're going to be fined. The salesman (Dan) says the county is wrong! Who is more likely to know what the requirements are: the salesman who will do whatever it takes to build the fence and collect his commission, or the county inspector? The owner isn't concerned with honoring the contract, only with making sure he can cover his labor and materials. What happened to honoring your contracts? Stay away from Long Fence. read more

I got my fence about 30 years ago. I am looking at getting a new fence now after 30 years, the fence really lasted as stated. Great investment. I am looking at replacing the wood fence with PVC because it is less maintenance. However, I unfortunately Long Fence doesn't. offer the colors that I am looking for. My advice is if you wish to have a patio for the summer start your contract earlier. We signed in May, got HOA approval in July and here we are in September still waiting to grill. The communication from Long Fence is sub par. I have had to contact them to get updates on the county approvals or if anything else was needed. No one returns calls or emails. We've started making payments on the loan for the project, but nothing to show for it thus far. Hoping we will hear something soon! If you're deaf, don't even bother. They wont even set you an estimate appointment by email. I literally told them, just give me any appointment time you can, I will make it work. I will arrange my schedule around whatever time they give me. Their response (which takes over 2 days to reply each time) was that they have call centers simultaneously booking appointments so they couldn't book one for me. . I'm deaf not stupid. Just book an appointment and tell me when to be there. Not difficult. Wish I could rate their work, but since I couldn't even get an estimate, I obviously couldn't get that far. read more

People are not supposed to put random flyers inside the mailboxes they're supposed to use stamps, for what they pay on television advertising you think they could do a proper mailing. I got a flyer with some personalized scribbling on it in my mailbox folded up in a haphazard way. I should be happy they didn't put it on my windshield. He was able to answer my questions on what fence would work best for my yard and in my community. He sent out a sales guy to my property. I was very happy with the knowledge and experience of the representative he sent out to me. It was scheduled quickly and at a very competitive and fair price based on other fence company quotes. When you decide to go with a company as reputable as Long Fence, you know you are working with exceptional people and high quality material. My next contact was Sergio. Sergio was amazing. He scheduled the fence around my busy schedule and was very accommodating and followed up when he did not originally hear from me. Sergio brought his crew out at 730 am on a Saturday morning (too much rain on the prior day) and completed the entire project in 5 hours. A white vinyl fence that has brought out the jealously in my neighbors. It looks great and the team at Long Fence were very easy to work with and extremely professional. I recently met with a Long Fence employee to get an estimate on a small privacy fence for my parents. Unfortunately, things did not go as well as I would have hoped. Upon my arrival at 1:55 PM he stated that he was about to leave when the appointment window had been set from 2:00-4:00 PM. Then the interaction became much more unprofessional. After learning that I was his client's son, he became agitated. First, he exclaimed he couldn't speak to me and could only take measurements. When I offered to call my father he declined. He then stated that it was insulting that my parents would send a "kid" to their appointment. I found it rude that he was complaining about a client to their child (regardless of age). Additionally, is it not a common occurrence to have an older client's grown child help them? Bottom line, either say that you can't do the estimate, or do the estimate. I had spoken at length with my parents about what information they wanted me to relay as they were both unable to be there promptly at 2:00 PM. Neither one of them knew that they needed to be present for the appointment otherwise they would have simply rescheduled. Eventually, he did speak to me about the project as he inspected the area. He asked if the old, chicken wire fence would be out before Long Fence came (implying my parents would take on that burden). He also questioned why they wanted a wood fence when vinyl is nicer and less expensive. He didn't care to really listen for my answer either time. Ironically, the reason I volunteered my time, aside from wanting to assist my parents is that my wife and I are also planning on fencing our own backyard and we were considering going through Long Fence. Long Fence - Odenton Location. How could you improve from the horrible service? How about not telling a customer at contract signing in June 2020 that the work will be completed in 6-8 weeks and 11 weeks later, no fence and the only contact/updates are when you call and complain. Then what you get is the excuse that there is a shortage of wood until you note for them that you didn't purchase a wood fence and then the story changes to because of the shortage of wood, people are going with vinyl and buying it all up and then customer service uses a drone response TWICE, August 2020, they called the distributor who is expediting the order the next day and they should get it in 7 - 10 days then will schedule the install. I call 10 days later in September 2020 after getting no update and I get the same story, that the distributor is sending it out the next day and its being expedited and they will have the order in 7 - 10 days and will schedule the install at that time. I guess they forget they said that 14 days prior back in August. I see why their ratings are so low. The WORST customer service after you already leave a big deposit so they have you on the hook. No where should a customer have to wait 3 months for a simple fence after LF takes their money.Long-term in the business does not equate to great service - definitely not in this case4. read more

My wife and I moved to a new development and wanted to get a fence so that our dog could roam the backyard. We also priced a deck out just to get an idea of what we would be looking at if we decided to get a deck in the future. After speaking with Jeff the salesman we decided to move forward with both the deck and the fence. We were quoted about 10 weeks for the jobs to start, but they called us early in during the 8th week and said they would be here on Monday. Both jobs were completed within the estimated time frame and the crews were professional. We added boards to the railings on the deck to give a little more room to place a drink down and they started to pop up within the first week. The crew manager Jeff (different Jeff than the salesman) called us right back and drove out himself to take a look. Immediately saw that some brackets were not installed and said he would order them and get them installed for as ASAP. He himself came today and installed them and everything looks perfect. We signed a contract with Long Fence in May to install a deck for us; the time given to start the project was 10-12 weeks and 10-12 day project completion from when we signed the contract. Well, the project didn't start until weeks after the timeframe given, and it is still going on four weeks so far when we were given a 2-week timetable at most. The project started horribly; the plans that were drawn up conflicted with each other. The installers initially tore up my yard because the one site plan was inverted and in conflict with another site plan. We had to go out and stop them because they were not doing it correctly. We have had installers come out and barely work a few hours and then don't come back for days and work that failed inspections. The assigning of contractors to work on this project has been horrible because there is a 2-week gap between when the main work is done to when the final electrical work is done. How was this not scheduled in a manner that wouldn't leave weeks-long gaps in the project? The communication with Long Fence has been horrible, we would call and ask about the status of the project, and it's supposed to be nearing the end of the project, and we are told that it should only be two more weeks total. Then to be notified by Long Fence that, oh, we don't have the electrical work scheduled for another two weeks. The lies abound with them; we would call and be transferred to the person we needed to talk to, only to be told by the person that we needed to be transferred to someone else. Then the same person we needed to talk to called back and gave us an update. Communication with this company is horrible, and the contractors they hire to complete projects are subpar. In the beginning, they are attentive and very considerate. However, once they receive your money, they will become distant and ignore the needs and deadlines of your project. After spending considerable money with Long Fence, we will NEVER use this company again for anything. read more

Accidents do happen, making a mistake happens. Covering up an accident is wrong. Spending nearly 20K for a fence is expensive thinking Long Fence been around for a long time means something in these days. Not any more! Have a pool with underground piping. ground was mark on location. They shattered a pipe. They wrapped it in plastic and tape it on both ends and covered it up with dirt. Next pool season pumps and equipment started. From there it went down hill. Pump went dry and burned up. Pool service company and Leak company $$$. there's an underground leak. Digging & digging found it at a fence post that was installed by L&F. Called the Service Manager stated in contract that they are not responsible for damage. Is there a moral responsibility? He blew me off. Mr Unprincipled if it was your pool would you like to be notify that an accident has happen and be able to get a plumber on site to fix the problem $200-300 cost. instead cover it up take the money and run. instead open your pool up for family, friends and associates to enjoy 2 months later and major expensive. My first contact was with Mr. Chris Lee. My appt for an estimate was 2PM - 4PM. When I arrived home at 1pm I saw an message on my phone from Mr. Chris Lee telling me to call him as soon as possible. In spite of my appt time I called him and and he stated he was in the area and wanted to stop by. When Mr. Lee first arrived I detected an attitude after I said that I wasn't expecting him since I had a 2pm appointment with a two hour window. I understood since the traffic is bad everyday in VA. I introduced myself to him and as I was telling him what I wanted which was a PVC fence he asked me what kind. I told him I don't know the different types but I didn't want nor did I have the mean of something expensive I wanted to prevent the people next door of using my driveway to get to the back of their yard. He kind of soften up a little and said he would have a estimate for me by email in two day which was Friday, 18 August. Now beyond my control my laptop stopped working and I could use my computer. I called Mr. Lee and asked him if he had sent the estimate and he said he did but I told him that my computer stopped working. He said I can send it again and I told him that my computer wasn't working and his next words were "What do you want me to do about it". Not, I can go over the estimate with you over the phone unprofessional in his tone and words. I don't know what his problem is but he has one. These bozos still irk me every time I see one of their commercials. About 15 years ago I obtained 5 price quotes to install a paver walkway and retaining wall. Each of the other 4 contractors estimates came in around $25K and Long's came in at $45K. The estimator said they would have to remove a large two story deck and rebuild it as part of the effort even though the walkway only led up to the deck. Obviously, I went with another contractor and they did outstanding work. I understand that estimates will vary and that's why it recommended to get several so that you can get a feel for whether the contractor knows what they're doing. In the case of Long, it was obvious they were more interested in scamming me than doing legitimate work or they were clueless. read more

If you are a woman in need of a fence please read: DO Not USE LONG FENCE!! It seems like "an old boys club". Here is why: 1. I work full time 50+ hours per week, so I had my boyfriend stay home so that he could show them the property lines. I signed the contract and I paid with my card. I was told by the woman who does scheduling that they only needed someone at home to show the installation crew where to place the fence. She said it could be anyone as long as they knew the exact location. The fence was installed and then the fight began... The fence was installed in order to keep 2 full size German Shepherds in the backyard. This was the only reason for installing a 6 ft chain link fence and was discussed in detail. The young gentleman sent by Long Fence to provide a quote failed to do his job adequately and provided me with a quote for a fence with a bottom coil wire. Since I am not a fencing professional, I trusted that he knew what he was doing. A couple days after the completion of the project I received a call that my female shepherd was running loose in the street and was almost hit by a car. The neighbor saw her slip right under the fence without any digging required. 2. Called Long Fence for 3 days without any type of response from the installation manager or the residential manager. 3. Texted back the young man who provided quote and was told the following: Basically my fault for not meeting with him in person and explaining dogs personality...Also told me there was no possible scenario where I would win in court and that if fence needed to be modified to contain dogs I would be charged....?? Wasn't that what the original quote was for? REALLY? 4. However he texted my BOYFRIEND to apologize for not offering a bottom rail on the proposal???? 5. Long Fence called my BOYFRIEND to apologize AFTER i asked for his name and number to be removed from their contact list so they would need to contact me (their customer) I have yet to receive a call from any of the male managers at LONG FENCE. My messages were ignored. I work with vendors everyday as a part of my job and I have never felt so disappointed and disrespected. As the sole owner of the house, as the person who signed the contract and paid, I deserved a call ...not my boyfriend. Yes, Long Fence fixed the fence and installed a bottom rail FREE OF CHARGE. I guess they figured out that there was a scenario where I would win in court after all. Shame on Long Fence. It seems that you foster an environment that is pro-male and your customer service is a perfect reflection of your attitude. I guess I should be thankful that I had a male you could call or my poor dogs would still be stuck inside and I'd still be leaving messages. read more

Ordered a fence installation from Long Fence, the process took 6 months after signing the contract and making the initial deposit. After that very long wait we find that our order was not correct and their rep left out a major piece of the fence that was supposed to be included that he specifically had taken the measurements for. Upon learning of this issue, we contacted Long Fence but they chose not to return our calls to resolve the problem - neither the rep nor their management. When we finally got someone, they wanted to inflate the price and make us wait another 4 months to complete the project and continuously reminded us that we have to pay for the materials regardless of their error. They just didn't care nor did they care to resolve it. They have certainly lost future business from us and will not be recommended. There are other professional companies out there for home improvement that serve their customers with integrity. I would stay away from Long Fence, their business practices and lack of customer courtesy are not worth it. We unfortunately did business with the Capital Heights office, it was not a good experience. 1 star is the lowest rating I can give otherwise I would take that away. For the record, once you sign the contract they've got you. If there are any errors or issues on their part they don't care about the customer- just their money. The management is rude, they don't resolve issues and their motto is: "the customer is always wrong" - they don't work to honor their errors. So beware of the friendly rep because it is indeed a deceptive ploy. Go with a reputable company for your project, but I assure you it's not Long Fence. read more

I had a horrible experience with these guys. I assume that unless you have a large commercial job, you get relegated to horrible service. In general, they guys who do the work were good. But everything else was a disaster. Perhaps the worst were the customer service agents who never had answers or solutions and only seemed to be there to keep you away from the guys who actually schedule and do the work. After getting nowhere with them for a couple months trying to schedule the work, I come home one day to find they had started that morning, but never bothered to tell me....And they installed my gate incorrectly, which led to a one-year odyssey of frustration, and my gate still does not function properly. I will say, they were very efficient in one area, the collections folks were very persistent trying to get money, even before the job was done. As a small business owner I spend a lot of effort making sure folks are happy. If I owned this company I'd be embarrassed by how I treated my clients. Sorry, I needed to vent. My experience sounds very similar to a lot of these posts. I received a quote a few months back and wasn't ready to pull the trigger just yet. The sales rep was great, informative and extremely nice. He was the reason we came back to Long Fence for a second meeting. Unfortunately, this time we had a new rep because our previous rep is no longer there. The new rep quoted us the same job for $1200 more. He was unable to negotiate or properly explain the drastic difference. He got very agitated when I informed him about the difference in pricing. He became rude and made me feel very uncomfortable. I spoke with his supervisor a couple of days after, who was equally rude and lacked any type of customer service. From the moment I met Dan, the Estimator, through to the point of the crew pulling out of my driveway, I experienced nothing but professionalism. After the initial meeting, Dan was happy to come back out a second time to stake out the fence line for the benefit of my neighbor. They were very patient with us as we got approval from our HOA. Once we got the approval, they had us scheduled promptly. I spoke with Donna in the office several times and she was always responsive and friendly. The crew worked hard and well together. Our backyard has a sloping uneven, rocky terrain and the crew did an outstanding job installing the fence.
