My husband called 911 and although I was in agony I was aware how great the ambulance people were: Amazing, and once we go to Stony Brook U Hospital everyone was terrific. I asked people their names but sorry to say I can't remember them. I will say PA Kathryn Walton was amazing. She did an awesome job stitching up my laceration, and she was so kind, professional and comforting. Dr. Brian McMahon was THE NICEST doctor! He took such great care of me. He was so considerate and I knew I was in great hands. I can't say enough wonderful things about these two physicians. Additionally, Everyone I came into contact with was amazing........nurses, aids, transport people, Xray and Cat Scan techs. I had a very long recovery, and thought about how fortunate I was to get the exceptional care that I did from all these people. God bless them, and Thank you to all of them. This was an experience I will long remember, especially because of the care I received.

My issue is not with the doctor himself, but rather the billing department. One month after my visit I received a bill for $335.00 (billed as Office Consult L4). This was unexpected. I was anticipating a $35 co-pay instead, as per usual if I see a specialist in my network. First I called SBRO and they transferred me to the billing dept. I was told that I was being billed as an outpatient. What? I then conferenced with SBRO secretary and my insurance co. (who asked if the code could accurately reflect a "New Patient Office Visit"). I was told they would resubmit my bill to the billing department, and the bill would be put on hold until that time. Six months later I get the same bill, no explanation. Again called my ins. co., they speak to SBRO who said I was being billed as an outpatient because SBRO is attached to the hospital (physically). I was told they would re-bill this correctly as an office visit, NOT an outpatient. I was never even treated by this doctor! In October I received the same exact bill, again no explanation. I spoke with my ins co on November 7. She spoke to SBRO staff member who would only say that their billers told her that this was the only way my visit could be billed, they had no other option. Less than a week later I received a letter from a debt collector regarding this bill. I am infuriated. There was no reason for this to be billed as an Office Consult L4. It should be correctly billed as a "New Patient Office Visit L4". The incorrect coding would cause me to pay $335 instead of my $35 co-pay.

I had a second consult with a different doctor, one more personable and thorough, and someone that really listened. Now I have 2 doctors, one I vibed with and dr. Kneessy. After hours of research online, reading reviews and testimonials, I made the best decision and chose the other Dr. Let me tell you, Dr. Kneessys office does NOT take rejection well. His office staff are argumentative and not professional at all. Like big kids stomping their feet because you chose not to go with them. My "free" consultation turned into a $425 bill. Unless you want to throw your money out, just don't bother going through the same headache I have. I'm sure Dr. Kneessy is a nice person, it's not so much his talent I am reviewing. It's his atrocious staff. Personally, after reading his reviews (or lack there of), it seemed like his strengths are with hand surgeries. These were my breast's on the table, literally. In the end I went with Dr. Romanelli...and have had a WONDERFUL experience. I am one week out of surgery and feel very confident and happy in my decision.
